I'd be an agony aunt of some type. I'd tell some people to grow up and get on with it, or others to LTB (a Mumsnet term)

🤣😂🤣😂🤣

I would like to be a hotel reviewer, going to stay in top end hotels around the world, or a top restaurant reviewer.

Gosh, so many things we would have liked to have done! I think I would have liked to work on a magazine, as a food photographer, but having said that my actual job as a PA was brilliant and I wouldn’t change that !

Astronomer, Archaeologist, Clinical Scientist working on Genomics. Or, probably more likely, a Librarian.

Patsy70 Tue 27-Oct-26 20:09:20

A specialist nurse or a gardener.

Oh yes! I fancy that too

Actually I think I would go back to my first job, working for a record company with trips up to the head office in the West End. As a "creative" person I was able to wear what I liked - which was usually something new from Biba, (the pay was quite good too)

I always wanted to go on the stage, as an actress, singer or ballet dancer. Didn’t manage any of that, as a result of not enough talent. Perhaps I could have worked in some backstage capacity.

I would like to have been an actress or writer in the style of Victoria Wood.

I would love to have done what Kristie and Phil do. Maybe the police force but not walking the beat. Being a detective, or flying around in a fast car. I am interested in law but it was too expensive to contemplate after I retired.

When I was young I wanted to be a nun, I thought it was a Monday to Friday job 9am to 5pm, during your day I thought you did some gardening, said a few prayers then went home until the next day, I was quite upset when I found out the reality of being a nun.

A detective - crime scene investigator. It can be gory, but it’s fascinating how they follow the trail.

Living on East 29th in New York City, driving a big yellow taxi cab with a medallion on the bonnet.
I wanted to do this when I was living there long ago.
And watching again the ticker-tape parade on 42nd for the first men on the moon.

A genealogist.

Researching my own family history has been absolutely fascinating, but I found it equally fascinating when for inheritance purposes I had to trace that of a more distant relative.
The picture that builds up, and the stories that you uncover are fascinating. I loved every bit of it, and found that as an activity it really suited my stubborn personality (like a dog with a bone if i think there is even the slightest chance of finding what I am looking for).

Mind you, for the second of those searches I had a lot of invaluable help from a fellow Gransnetter, who I can't thank enough. I won't say who she was/is, but if she reads this i would like her to know just how much I appreciated her help.

In fact, if I imagine myself as being a genealogist, I would also like to imagine her as being my supervisor/manager / mentor 😃

Yes, I would add that to my list too. Having spent many years researching both sides of both our families, found some fascinating stories, I just need the incentive to write it all in an interesting way for the family.

I could have written your last sentence myself. 😁.

Aveline, YES! That would be perfect!

TheWeirdoAgain60 Wed 28-Oct-26 13:31:32

I've done various jobs over the years, but if I could be absolutely anything, it would be as a professional singer and drummer.

I'm good with the drums but can't sing! I'd be in old-time Country and Western bands like Waylon Jennings, etc.!
