For those that may not be aware this is UK Heritage Week 11-20 September.

There are hundreds of events, talks, walks and access to buildings, gardens etc that are not normally open to the public.

We have been to some fascinating places and learned a lot about our local area, some National Trust properties are free to enter during Heritage Week.

Here’s a link for anyone interested.

We've visited many places that aren't usually open during this week over the years.
This year we've concentrated on churches that are within walking distance of home that we've not yet entered. We've learned a lot, met some lovely people and been given coffee and cake.

Good to hear, our local council are not very good at promoting these events!

The National Trust has been disappointing this year. I looked online at my nearest only to find that their free entry was the previous weekend!

Thank you Sago I had not heard about this.

Not a thing about Wales .

Thank you Sago for the reminder.

I remember the first year they ran it, we were able to get into The Bank of England. Our DS couldn’t believe that we were allowed to view a pallet of gold bullion, and how much it was worth!
It’s a great event and allows access to buildings you wouldn’t normally be allowed to enter.

We’ve had some wonderful visits this week in Cornwall.

I've enjoyed a living history event (lots of clanking swords, misericords and medieval food) at a beautiful church,
a renovation talk at Shakespere's daughter's house (where you could also peg together oak frame joints & have a whittle)
and a stained glass talk.
All the hosts & people giving the talks and demonstrations were fantastic. So nice to see all the little ones interested at these events too!

Sprat1960. Thanks for that. We’ll have to rush though….this weekend only.

I managed togo to the Bowes Museum on the first weekend and saw the beautiful Silver Swan working and a good art exhibition by Norman Cornish. Then this weekend I took myself dowm to a NT place near York and enjoyed the lovely gardens using their buggy, which cheered a rough week. I have been pleased to see so many children enjoying the chance to visit and hope that it will spark interest for the future. Even the weather was kind

I've been to a few in Birmingham, tour around the council house and the Art school, a walk under Spaghetti junction and a visit to the bank vaults under the Exchange. Most of the events have been heavily oversubscribed. Myself and a group of friends have plans to do more next year.
