I paid my first visit to the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy just a few days before. I remember walking down Piccadilly with my younger son and daughter. It was a beautiful sunny day. We had special tickets which included champagne, nibbles and a gift bag to take home.

Hardly a morning post from me but I thought of Diana, Princess of Wales first thing as 29 years ago today she died. Gosh where do the years go I ask myself?

Bit late but happy birthday gagagran glad you had an enjoyable lunch

Georgesgran Mon 31-Aug-26 13:54:48

It is GrandmaC47 - I’m sure your family will have noticed mine - the wheelchair is a dead giveaway! X

Gagagran Mon 31-Aug-26 13:33:38

Thank you everyone for the kind birthday wishes! Just had a lovely lunch out with DH and found a huge bouquet on the table in the restaurant, waiting for me! Family are visiting on Thursday so am looking forward to that. Think I shall get used to being 83 pretty quickly!

Good morning from a glorious east coast.

We are going over to visit my dad and stepmum this afternoon they have shocking phone reception so speaking to them on their mobiles is awful they sound like they are underwater. I need to see Dad in person as he’s deaf too. He had a traumatic operation removing a huge skin cancer from his head so I need to give him a big hug. He has to go through having about 30 staples removed from his head soon bless him. He’s been through the mill a bit.

Lovely FGT is enjoying her happy place 🌞

Wishing Gagagran a very happy birthday 🎉

Have a good day everyone enjoying the sunshine if you can 🌼

GrandmaC47 Mon 31-Aug-26 11:12:42

Georgesgran, yes Jet2. Small world isn’t it. 😀

Good morning fro a rainy but brightening Stockport.
I am late to the part after a very bad night when of course I dozed off about 7.
I have an increasing painful leg, pain from hip to ankle which is either bursitis which I had diagnosed a couple of years ago or sciatica.
I am seeing the GP surgery physio tomorrow.

Yesterday’s Sunday lunch out was nice but not special, the venue was lovely and I shall go again but have something off the main menu and not the roast.
My GD’s friend who took me was very good company, she has a foreign boy friend who she sees about 3 times a year, her family and friends worry about her, there doesn’t seem to be a good ending for the relationship and she tells me everything without any censure or pressure.

The sky is going dark again and I think we are in for another wet day.

I hope any plans you have can go ahead and Gagagran enjoy your day.

Bellasnana Mon 31-Aug-26 10:07:08

Many happy returns Gagagran! I hope you have a wonderful birthday.🥳

In Malta the school year is a bit different, my children all started the year they turned 4. I remember DD1 had two girls in her class who were sisters, one born January and the other in December of the same year.

Georgesgran Mon 31-Aug-26 10:06:32

They must be on the same flight GrandmaC47 - Jet2? DD2 should be boarded first with assistance, but that’s rare these days with such short turnarounds for most flights.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. We have blue sky and clouds.

A quiet day today - the rest of the week is busy.

I think OH is doing bee things today rather than his fortnightly U3A croquet.

Have a good day.

Good morning from Wiltshire.

Happy Birthday Gagagran. Hope you have lovely day. 🎂🥂

BBQ for GD3’s 8th birthday went ahead and incredibly there was no rain until the evening. There were 23 family members in the end, from both sides and DS’s beautiful dog so it was just as well we were outside. Luckily SinL has a covered outside kitchen with an enormous BBQ. The teens ate inside which made space for everyone. We had a fantastic afternoon. Just a shame DH wasn’t feeling very well which he hasn’t been for a few days, in a way he couldn’t really explain and still doesn’t today.

Hope you all have a relaxing Bank Holiday.

Snap, Georgesgran, dd2 and family are at Palma airport now, arriving at Newcastle mid afternoon. We will keep the two granddogs for a couple of days.
Sun shining here so washer on.
Hope those feeling under par get better soon.
Some beautiful pictures today.

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton; funny Mick, that I'm only 20 or so miles from you and yet our weather is so different! But I think we may get showers later; however I have taken the chance and got some washing in the machine.

Did very little yesterday apart from spending an hour in the garden after lunch. I needed to put the cover on the garden seat. I also trimmed back some of the climbing rose on the pergola, and noticed a few good bunches of purple grapes on the vine. I think the 30 year old pergola may need replacing next year as it seems to have bits falling off it! I also found some duct tape and repaired the garden bin which had two splits in it, probably caused by the bin lorry mechanism when emptying.

No plans for today really; may strip and change the bed later, then read the paper and continue with The Odyssey.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

A very Happy Birthdat Gagagran enjoy your day today! 💐🎂🥂

Good morning from a dry NE where it is 15°.
We had a lovely afternoon at a castle where we had afternoon tea. We had a sudden downpour as we returned to the car which continued until we got home.
I gave GD2 her birthday present because I won't see her on the actual day. She wanted an apple watch so that is what she got, she set it up there and then as soon as she opened it, the youngsters are so good at technology.
She then played the piano for more than an hour which was lovely.
GD1 sorted out my phone, I had lost an important voicemail and she found it.
Today I am having a quiet day, catch up with TV and do some admin.
DD and SIL are coming to the UK tomorrow, haven't seen them since we were on holiday at the beginning of May.
Enjoy the bank holiday.

Grandmabatty Mon 31-Aug-26 08:52:40

Happy birthday to Gagagran. Have a lovely day.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 31-Aug-26 08:50:45

Back to read some more posts. 😁

Wishing you many happy returns of the day Gagagran a fellow Virgoan! We would get on well. The Earth sign where family is of greatest importance.

Oh Gingster how awful for your friend suffering a broken hip like that, sustained whilst using her bike too for healthy exercise. Shudder. 😱

Gingster Mon 31-Aug-26 08:49:23

Happy birthday Gagagran. 🎊.

I switched off the I pad which seems to have stopped the freezing. So frustrating!

Dd and DGD coming this afternoon and will stay the night as we are catching a coach to Windsor to have a boat trip along the Thames with lunch on board. A last treat before school resumes.
They’ve had a lovely summer with so many days out, rather than going away.

DS2 is coming here to work and keep an eye on his dad.
I don’t like to leave him for a full day, although he says he’ll be fine . 🙄. I would worry and not enjoy our day out.

Bed making up and shopping at the local shops, walking little dog and back to make something for dinner.

Take care 🌺

Jaxjacky Mon 31-Aug-26 08:41:03

Happy Birthday Gagagran 🥳🎂🥂 enjoy your lunch and the rest of your special day.

latedecember1963 Mon 31-Aug-26 08:40:28

Good morning everyone from a post thunder stormy Lancashire.

I haven't had chance to read your messages yet, so apologies if it appears I haven't responded to anything in particular.

The church person sendoff was lovely yesterday. He'd no idea and seemed very touched. He and DD had a good catch up.

DD goes home to Birmingham later today. We might all go into Bury and have some lunch out before she heads back to Manchester on the tram.

I can hear Thunderfeet giving DH the runaround so I'll go and help.

Have a lovely BH, whether it's quiet or busy. 🌻

GrannyGravy13 Mon 31-Aug-26 08:36:09
