Good morning from a misty murky Leicestershire.

Nothing planned today, just packing for our trip away. The pharmacist from the surgery is going to ring me but I am not sure why.

Good Morning everyone from a dull and damp central south coast. It feels humid and quite sticky and I don't think we have had copious amounts of rain.

DD and her soon to be husband, plus DGD will be calling for a cuppa this morning. They will be en route to the End of the Road Festival near Salisbury. It has become an annual event for them over many years. DS and family plus various old friends and boyfriends all go too except this year, DS isn't able to go as he is still in his special boot, hopefully healing his torn Achilles tendon. He will be home alone so I expect a call for a chat!

I have been using an infra red massage wand on my arms and have had some improvement from it. I bought it from Aldi years ago - a centre aisle purchase and it does make a difference to ease of movement and pain levels so I shall continue with it.

Hope you get your poorly leg sorted Madeleine. It sounds most uncomfortable and painful. Good luck bearding the "dragon"!

Good morning from a dull northwest coast. I’m sleeping in the spare, used to be son’s bedroom as I have cleared my bedroom for the window replacement today. It will then be redecorated.
All my pills, potions, makeup etc are scattered around, it’s confusing, but I slept better in this Ikea bed than my own.

I’ll get on with house stuff while the work goes on and I hope they also finish replacing the porch today.

FaceTime with flying DD in Milan yesterday about to go out with the crew and an early night for me. I hate having workmen in the house, but like the results.

Good morning all from Morecambe Bay. It’s dry with rain promised for later.
Last night was strangely warm. It felt strange walking CDog on the marsh with rain heat and a setting sun. We were a bit later than usual as I went to an introductory lesson to join a beginner’s adult ballet class! I think it may be just what I’m looking for, nice and gentle!
Today I’m off on an early train to Manchester as I have a dental check up and hygiene appointment. My dentist of many years is off sick so I’m seeing someone else. It will be quite strange. Despite living in different parts of the country I’ve always been with the same dental practice.
Reading Madeleines post I thought I may join her at the Muker show but I need to be in Liverpool next Wednesday for GDs birthday. It’s the first time she will home on her birthday. It’s usually her birthday on her first day back at school.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s grey, damp and drizzly again, no sign (yet?) of the promised thunderstorms! We had a short shower yesterday morning, then the sky cleared and we had a sunny humid day.
Yoga was challenging as usual and I did very little for the rest of the day. The builder/decorator contacted me in the evening and will call in tomorrow or over the weekend to assess how much paint is needed and provide an estimate of money and time.
The gardener is supposed to be coming this morning, not sure if he’ll come if it’s raining.

madeleine I hope you can see a doctor this morning and obtain more antibiotics for the cellulitis.

llfl the burns to your DH’s arm sound very painful, I hope they heal soon.

rosesandlilac your cleaner sounds very efficient, I’m sure it would help you if you keep her on!

melanie I hope your DD’s ear improves soon. We always worry about our children don’t we!

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. We are supposed to be having a rainy week, if only!
I planted out a shrub yesterday, the soil was barely moist, the benefits of last week's day of rain mostly vanished.
As for the rest of the day, I had a good clean around in the kitchen and did some admin, including my rail booking for next year's trip to OZ, DS2 has been prodding me! A good job too as I found cabins seemed to be booking up.

Today, just gentle pottering and admin. My calf muscle is playing up again and my increased dose of steroids taking time to kick in. This is minor compared to you Madeleine, your leg sounds barely bearable so I hope you get some help from the surgery ASAP.
Your DD has been unlucky Melanie, that sounded nasty and I hope it is now well on the mend.

Good morning, Michael from South Yorkshire where all I can say about the weather is it is not raining - yet! All the forecasts differ as to how awful it is going to be today and at what point the awfulness can be expected! If I miss my walking group today, it will be the fourth Thursday in a row. I’ve a couple of hours to make up my mind whether to risk it.

Yesterday at the library was very relaxed with a lot of laughter which was just the pick me up I needed. DS rang at teatime and we had a long chat. He will be down to visit next weekend.

Hope your DD's ear has settled overnight, Melanie61. As Madeleine says, no matter how old they are, they're always our babies.

We've finally had more than a sprinkling of rain and the garden looks so grateful for it. We're due thunder storms today.

Hope your new bra is a comfy fit, Karma. I get mine fitted at an independent undies shop. Their bras are expensive but are so comfortable because I'm wearing the right size. I always wash them by hand to make them last.

Madeleine, good luck at the GP surgery. Maybe take a book and a packed lunch and sit in the waiting room until you can be seen. On the rare occasion I call in our surgery it's like the Marie Celeste, and yet you can't see a Dr for at least 4 weeks.
Your Muker show sounds lovely. I can sense the nostalgia in your post.

Hope your mouth is more comfortable this morning, Marydoll. I know what you mean when you say the noise of the tooth being removed was awful.

This morning we have a meeting here with the little chap's social worker and health visitor. His parents are supposed to be joining by teams.

Yesterday evening DH and I wrote down some thoughts about how family contact is going. Basically, it happens if we do all the organising and contact with his half siblings is proving difficult.
The carers of the siblings probably don't want to have to do it, but it is part of the agreement laid out during the lengthy court proceedings.

It's tricky because we're trying to establish a working relationship but we feel we need to show that we aren't willing to always be the ones to dance to everyone else's tune.

At the heart of this is a little boy and his siblings who are caught up in a situation that is no fault of their's.

Good morning from a very wet W Kent a really gloomy morning. The plan today is to go to Tenterden and get rid of some of DHs railway books. The clearing out continues.
Yesterday I returned to the hairdressers I tried a few weeks ago, I was greeted by about 6 staff and felt I had intruded on a private party. A girl took me off to wash and then the lady I had booked with cut my hair, she said her back was bad and she was going for a deep massage, she then disappeared and someone else gave it a quick blow dry. No asking me. I think the cut is ok but I have never felt so out of place in a hairdressers. I can see I will have to try the more expensive one round the corner.

Good morning from Torbay, where I was awoken in the night by the unfamiliar sound of rain pattering on the windows!

Yesterday I had my annual review with one of the nurses who was generally pleased with my stats and took blood to check all the levels are within normal range. The results should be through sometime today.

I hope you can get seen today by your GP, madeleine; that sounds very painful.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 14° and very cloudy. Madeleine I hope you can get a doctor's appointment for your leg. Llfl I am glad your dh will heal from the burns. It just shows how careful you have to be.
Yesterday I did an hour in the school library and processed donations of books, as well as mending some. I left just as playtime started and bumped into both dgs1 and dgs2. Hugs from both which was lovely. Then I was followed by dgs2 and his chums to the gate, all waving goodbye. In the afternoon I pottered about and made a pot of mince with onion and carrots.
Last night I had a very bad sleep for no reason I can think of. I'll go back to the school library to tidy up but it will be a short visit. Then home to pull weeds. Have a good day all.

DH will be dodging the rain this morning when dog walking.

Good morning from the NE where it is 15° and dry but rain forecast later and a high of 19°.
When we went shopping yesterday the car park had an ambulance and lots of police cars blocking one area. I dread to think what had happened.

I had to message my friend and cancel the restaurant booking we had for tomorrow, someone thought it a good idea to close the roads in our city centre from today until Tuesday. Apparently they did the same last week and it caused chaos for motorists. It must impact on businesses and we have an eye hospital in the city centre.
City regeneration ? The modern buildings are ugly, a bit like the song little boxes made of ticky tacky.
Today will be a quiet day, maybe do some tidying in the study and clean the bathrooms.

Good morning from Malta where the high today is expected to reach 43°C and the low is 30°C.

I read yesterday that we have had 100 days without rain and 80 days of continuous above 30°C temperatures. I believe it!

I did my usual half hour on the crosstrainer yesterday then pottered for the rest of the morning.

Joy of joys, DD3 and the boys came over after summer school so we had a lovely afternoon together. They are such different, but adorable, characters.

I slept better last night, only one pit stop at 2.30 then I slept until after 7am. I still feel weary though.

Not sure what I shall do today, it really is too hot to be outdoors. It’s like stepping into an oven.

Hope your DD will be ok Melanie. That sounds nasty, no wonder you’ve been worrying.

DS sent photos of the two cats yesterday. Winston, being the sweet, gentle soul he is, has accepted his new sister and it seems she loves her big brother!

In answer to your question yesterday, glammagran, I don’t know what breed Phoebe is. She was a street cat along with her six siblings. DS and his girlfriend spotted them near a cafe and when they passed by again all had gone apart from little Phoebe who was crying and alone so they scooped her up, took her to the vet, and adopted her! They also feed some local strays.

Yesterday was a long day. I drove OH to Bristol where he saw a couple of people in the Burns Unit. He has been reassured that they will heal,

When we got home I made a batch of lemon ice cream in my new machine and it is delicious!

It is the monthly book group today at lunchtime.

Good morning Michael and all GN's on a dark still morning in North Yorkshire. Been awake since about 4am, tried to get back to sleep but given up, and got up!

I thought the cellulitis in my leg was improving very slightly, but yesterday it was worse, more swollen, red and tight skin, and painful. As today is the last tablet of the prescription, which I have taken exactly as need to, and tried to keep my leg up etc etc., I shall have to have another trip to the doctors this morning, and ask for an emergency appointment. If I dont get more antibiotics and have it checked out as safe to carry on , I will end up with no medication over the weekend, all my good efforts going for nothing etc. It is a flipping hassle and besides being painful, I cant bend and get things from the floor etc , so extremely frustrating!

The most important reason is my favourite little show of all the year is on next wednesday. The wonderful Muker show, up swaledale. I have been going to it for many years, being part of it, with entries to the horticultural tent, the photos that my husband took and I did the captions etc etc. It has everything I love, the fell race, the sheepdogs, childrens fancy dress etc etc., Of course being a member of Swale singers, I also took part in the end singing, where the band come down to the Farmers Arms, and all the visitors come down and surround them, and we dish out the booklets, and sing all the wonderful hymns and songs and especially the beloved swaledale songs.

I love it for the show itself, the community that gives so much, and the wonderful memories of times passed, cakes baked, picnics eaten etc. Over all the years, the one hard thing for me is, however much I try to ignore it , I have to admit that I am becoming more disabled each year, and look back, from helping in small ways at the show, entering many competitions, singing with the choir and meeting many friends , who had had to move away for work or whatever but who faithfully come back for similar reasons and it is a great day. As the years went on, my husband was getting quite disabled, and had a blue badge, I used to do all the driving, packing up the picnic , putting all the chairs etc in. We then used to park in the disabled car park, and get out our folding chairs and got to "our " spot. We didnt need a marker , but knew just where to sit so that we could look down on the main ring, and could see the fell race up above etc. We could then have that as our base and go on excursions to the various tents and stalls. So here I am now, on my own physically, but my darling husband will be with me in spirit and so it is my major goal to get this wretched cellulitis sorted so that I can go and enjoy my wonderful day out. If any of you are ever in the dales at this time of year, Muker show is always the first wednesday in september. I will be there every year while I can get there, so who knows? We might have a GN get together ? That would be lovely!

Oh well yesterday, I was limping about, trying to get jobs done and being totally frustrated by my slowness , and inability to pick up things that I managed to chuck on the floor etc. It was market day, so a bit later I mounted the yellow peril and set off to do various jobs and go round the stalls etc. I was so slow that I actually went down to the fish and chip shop and had just a piece of fish for my lunch, while I was out. Sent a text to a friend to meet for coffee if she was free at Cafe Nero. I was there first, and made the most of the time, as I seemed to have got 3 different lists of things I needed to do, some of which were sorted , others waiting for later. So I was able to go through them and cross out stuff sorted and then remake the list in order of the way I would be passing the shops and stalls on my way home. Good to see Heather and catch up, but I could feel my leg hurting more and the skin feeling tighter, but was determined to go to whist last night.

So got home and sorted and off to whist. A good crowd there, but my leg was really painful, getting worse during the evening, and although I enjoyed the people and catching up on local news, I had a very rubbish night for the cards, won no prizes not even the raffle, and by the time I got home, I was in such pain, for once I went straight for some painkillers, and sat with my leg up and resting it. This was of course followed by very little sleep and here I am again.

Yesterday , there was a lot of programmes about Dolly Parton and much of her music played , so my whole day, I was singing along, and singing the ones I loved the most, so it was "Ear worms" as they say. I would be trying to concentrate on something and would then have in my head the various phrases so "9 to 5 what a way to make a living" would be interuppted with "my coat of many colours that my mammy made for me" and "dumb blonde" It was lovely to see that so many people not only loved her songs but recognised what a very clever and astute person she was and the goodness with which she tried to help others. Huh! lunatic orange Donald Trump was speaking about her, and I thought what a difference between them. How Dolly was a power for good and beloved by many; that her legacy will be still help for many with the money she donated. Compare that to Trump , his legacy of hoarded money for him, himself , and his family, and looking over his life, his selfishness , deliberate intention to set people against each other and his "bigly" stupidity will be all people can see of his life.

Ah well I need to gird up my loins for a shower , hairwash , and put on my mental armour, to face the doctors receptionist again. Mind you , she has met me now, and if she has any sense she will get me an appointment, without any stroppiness. Woe betide her today if she makes any hassle, beyond the already unwanted hassle of having to get another prescription etc. I am very tired, in a lot of pain, and fed up right now, so will be on a short fuse!!

Hope you enjoy your cycle race Mick and am rather envious of your downpour and thunder and lightening. Melanie I do hope you get better news on your DD soon. It doesnt matter how old they get, running families , jobs and lives efficiently, we never stop being "worried mum" do we? Do hope the antibiotics will have begun their good work, and when you see her it wont be any worse, even if it isnt much better.

Well I shall come back once I am cleaned up and at the ready , with my mental "suit of armour" before I get my lance ready for the joust with the receptionist and find out what everyone has been doing. Fingers crossed the cleaners will be here this pm, and so not only will the flat look better but all those irritating little things, like biros and buttons and important pieces of paper, that have all ended up on the floor and under chairs will be rescued for me.

Good morning from s somerset, it is raining, properly raining, it is going to be dry the rest of the day, cloudy and sunny. The air should smell lovely and the dust in the air may have gone

I think I will get myself out on a car trip to Wells, I rather fancy a wander around the beautiful gardens at Bishops Palace and may buy a few small treats for myself to celebrate the break from the intense sun and heat

I never did sort my freezer yesterday but did make portioned 6 days worth of a good tomato sauce with veg so all I need do is add chard from my garden, pasta and some of the beans I cooked, 12 minutes in the pressure cooker is all it took to cook the soaked beans. I am very aware of energy cost, seeing the spike on octopus during the past few days

A small thing but my chantenay carrots have germinated, the last hurrah before autumn

My body is changing, as it does with age, so I have ordered a new item of lingerie to try on, hope it fits nicely, a brand I have not tried before. Anyway it looks very comfortable as well as supportive. Fingers crossed, I did the measurements properly and returns are included

I have a free day and won`t waste it but won`t be doing routine housework. I have managed to get up to date, even washed my door rugs

I was glad to read that Madeleine is on the mend

Rain! Beautiful, blessed rain! Probably the first this month. It’s only been raining for about 30 minutes; gently, so very useful, distant thunder not much lightning. The storm has probably moved on already, not having been near.
Yesterday went ok; very few people came to FAB cafe for some reason, but I left early for the bus to DD’s.
It was lovely to see the girls who were very excited to go off this morning for Greenbelt, ddDD not so because the forecast was for rain the whole time. What did she expect for August bank holiday? Surely it’s a tradition to be washed out?
I came back just on time for the meeting with Teflon. We agreed that communication with individuals in response to queries was good, but sadly lacking to all residents. The outside painting is due to b3 signed off on Friday next week. How they are going to manage that, having half the estate to do, goodness knows.
Poor Teflon was being given the third degree, although he is at the bottom on the food chain. One big cause of dissatisfaction is essentially that the residents since the year dot cannot accept that the manager is only available for 5 hours a day, weekdays only and not at our beck and call. So the search is for a suitable visiting manager. It’s now 14 months since the retirement and we’ve only had a temp in place now and then. Not a very satisfactory situation.
I was exhausted by the end of all this as the only rest I’d had was in the buses there and back.
Today, t’ai chi only; possibly some distribution on notes to the residents…
MD, I hope your mouth is less uncomfortable, that madeleine’s leg keeps on improving, that r&l is still resting…

Good morning from Sheffield
Thank you Michael for being here every morning.
I’ve never posted this early before. I’ve been awake really early, and late to sleep last night.
My DD had a piercing in her ear, but in the cartilage bit about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday her ear went very red and painful. It just got worse as the day progressed. She rang 111 and they advised her to go to A and E. The redness had spread to her head behind her ear. So she took herself off. They were very good and she got seen quite quickly. The doctor was a bit concerned as it had spread so she had some intravenous antibiotics and after an hour the redness had gone down a bit. They sent her home with oral antibiotics. I was chatting to her and waited till she got home. She text me to say she was safely home, this was midnight. I finally got some sleep but then awake at 4 as she is on my mind. I’m hoping she got more sleep than me and that it has improved even more.
I will see her this morning as she is working and we are having the two boys. I hope she will be fit enough.
As it is the last full day of childcare I will let them decide what they want to do today.
