Yes, it's part of a growing trend and quite obvious now.

It's no good wallowing in doom and gloom, argymargy, yes, we have known about this for decades and have failed to act.
It's no good, either, being like King Canute trying to hold back the waves, we have to adapt, adjust and take positive action.

Well, we chopped down one of our grapevines which was for winemaking but we do have another one for table grapes and it's doing very well this year.

I wonder if Mr Tice would like to help the firefighters tackling the blazes across Britain and the Gurkhas digging fire breaks?

Perhaps start digging out for a few new reservoirs?

We do have to, but I fear it’s all too little too late.

Successive govt’s and those who could have helped make positive changes to our changing climates, have been far too slow to do anything, and now here we are!

I completely agree. They’re totally out of touch. I love humour, but humour when people are dying solely due to the intense heat, or losing their homes, isn’t humour, it’s sheer stupidity!

We already do have a lot of vine growing. We are surrounded by them.

And I think a lot of our wines certainly give the French a run for their money, and indeed have beaten France some years.

Try Camelford champagne type - utterly delicious and there is a Kent finery who produces similar.

I’ve tried many different English wines, I’m not a great wine drinker (or indeed, any more “drinker”), but those I’ve tried have been more than decent and worth drinking.

We (UK), need more initiatives like this and to work towards as much self sufficiency as possible. (IMHO)

I would argue that 99% of it is doom and gloom - and I speak as a very positive and optimistic person. We have known about this for decades and yet done nothing. I applaud your imagination however that will not save our species.

We saw from Brexit, we saw in Covid, how very damaging and divisive those given a free rein to say what they want, when they want, using all social media channels available to them and the number of “conspiracy theorists” crawling out of the woodwork, particularly from the USA, popping up frequently via social media was astounding.

The amount of media coverage Reform receive via our mainstream media and indeed the BBC is, frankly, shocking and totally OTT.

Reform might be amount the smallest party, but they are the wealthiest and no doubt, if and when investigated no doubt more shady financiers will come out.

It’s nothing but corruption.

@nanna8 Climate change is not just about the weather (I certainly would prefer a warmer climate now that I'm old & permanently cold). The global implications of many countries becoming uninhabitable due to climate change are severe. Where do you think all their inhabitants will go? They certainly won't just conveniently die. There is also the increasing threat of extreme weather conditions to global food supplies - this is already happening. If you think it's just a matter of adapting buy growing grapes, you are deluded.

Good to hear Whitewave - I have never had any wine from the UK. I live at the edge of the Yarra Valley so spoilt for choice.

I think growing grapes for wine is a good idea. His timing is off, for sure but nothing wrong with seeking ways to use the warmth. Climate change is not all gloom and doom, adaptation is possible. I wonder if they will start to grow crops in some of the icy regions of the world?

I dont think we'll ever be up there with the French in terms of viticulture, even with hotter summers!
However, the warm summer this year will mean that our vines have fewer harmful diseases like rot and fungi, so that's a plus.

We are blessed with two good wineries in Devon. I recommend Lyme Bay Winery's Pinot Noir and Pebblebed Vineyards' Sparkling Rose. Santé.
