Living up to your name Cabbie and good on you for treating yourself, I find it very difficult to call a taxi if my bus pass will get me there for free.
When in season (which is pretty short) I treat us to luscious fat black British cherries from M&S. While the Gdcs were staying recently we got through rather a lot, since they found them pretty irresistible, too.
For me, at home, a cup of coffee and a box of Maltesers. They are almost pricing themselves off the market because I rarely see them on shelves, although I try to keep away from that section.
The cafe in one of our local parks sell wonderful cherry scones - I could eat them all day long. I also often buy myself a box of Nairn cheese oatcakes and have to ration myself or they wouldn’t last five minutes!
Scones for me too, for the very occasional afternoon treat with a lashing of clotted cream and jam, and a pot of tea, a nice china cup is a must. None of those thick mugs please, the receptacle has to be right, for moi ultra fussy occasional tea drinker. I've started eating the scone in the alternative subversive style, cream first, topped with jam - surprisingly still as good I love a cheese scone too,.
My occasional treat , more for cold weather time, is to go to my nearest Cafe Nero, taking my own china mug of course, and have my americano as I like it and an apricot croissant, which they heat up for me. It is quite a big cafe , with a selection of good seating and very nice staff, and as a type 2 diabetic, but only controlled by diet etc., it is a rare but much enjoyed treat.
We sometimes drive to a little French creperie. It is owned and run by a lovely French lady who cooks all the crepes and makes wonderful coffee. A real treat.
My favourite treat is a home baked scone warm from the oven with butter and jam on it. But the cheese covered pretzel mentioned by shysal would go down really well too.
There is a small M&S in my local hospital. To cheer myself up after an outpatient visit, either with a friend or for myself, I buy a cheese covered giant pretzel. If travelling home by bus I surreptitiously tear bits off and eat it. Otherwise when I get home it is lovely microwaved for a few seconds.
I went on a 30 minute bus ride this morning to get to a wonderful little French style patisserie in a local village. They do divine almond croissant, my little treat to myself when I'm feeling fed up & I'll pair it with a hazelnut latte if I'm in funds/feeling extravagant/not watching the diet for once.
What's your favourite small treat - food related or otherwise? (I do like getting stuck into a new book too!)
