Poignant Songs/Music.

How do you mend a broken heart by the bee gees but sung by Al Greeen
Rachmaninoff variation 18 on a theme by Paganini
Una furtiva lagrima sung by Pavarotti x

I don’t listen to a lot of popular music these days (my loss, my children tell me😊), but I like songs that remind me of people.
A favourite, ‘Songbird’ by Christine McVie, always reminds me of my Welsh sister in law, and I’ve just unearthed, while sorting out the contents of my piano stool, ‘With a Song in my Heart’ (Rogers and Hart) that was a favourite with my sister who was much older than me. I suddenly now remember it being the theme tune to Two Way Family Favourites on the radio back in the fifties.
I also like ‘Wouldn’t it be nice’ by the Beach Boys.

The last day of our acquaintance by Sinead O'Connor.
She has such a pretty, sad voice.

In My Life ,the Judy Collins version
Caledonia by its writer Dougie Maclean
Wintersong by Sarah McLaughlin
Nothing Compares by Sinead O,Connor
The Voyage by Christy Moore
.
Loads more but these are amongst my favourites

Music is wonderful, so many songs remind my if my family.
Dancing with my Father again.. By Luther Vandross.
The Way we were, sung by Barbra Streisand, remind me of mum and dad, but also happy songs. Hey Jude sung with my cousins.. Happy days.

Into the mystic by Van Morrison.

Always Time in a Bottle by Jim Crocce and Joan Baez’s version of Forever Young.
Another favourite is Scott McKenzies San Francisco - I sing along to it in the car, but then a lump in my throat picturing myself in that era to what I am now.

For me it's the beautiful & poignant song, 'The first time I saw your face' by the wonderful Roberta Flack.
This wonderful, haunting tune reminds me of my mad, glorious, kind son who sadly is no longer with me on this earth. What a song and what a woman.

More and more songs as I get older.

Currently my two favourites are Abraham, Martin and John sunglasses by Marvin Gaye with Beverley Knight added posthumously. I think it was done for a prom.

James Taylor's version of You've Got a Friend - played at the funeral of a young friend who recently died aged 43.

Yesterday by the Beatles.

There are tons more including lots by Lewis Capaldi.

Oh love a bit of Classic FM in the morning too. Id say 'November' by Max Richter makes you wanna hear the rain especially when folks are praying for some rain now eh.

Lady Gaga singing ‘I’ll Never Love Again’ reduces me to a weeping mess.😭

Casdon

Jeff Buckley ‘Hallelujah’ is heartbreaking.

I love so many versions of Hallelujah, including Leonard Cohen's original, but Jeff Buckley's is probably my second favourite.

My Immortal was played at my friend's 10 month old baby's funeral. Although it will be 20 years at Christmas since her baby died, I still stop in my tracks when I hear the song.

I don't know that song.
I'll have to look it up.

And So it Goes by Billy Joel.

Such beautiful word facing the certainty of a doomed love affair.

Yes, The first time ever I saw your face, and Chasing cars.
Also The Wichita linesman, which I've just seen mentioned elsewhere.
Annie's song, so, so many, and a lot of them I'm not even sure why. They make my eyes fill just thinking about them.
Somethings gotta hold of my heart (Gene Pitney and Marc Almond)
She by Elvis Costello.
My immortal by Evanecense. (Spelled wrong!)

I agree with you, Casdon, on Slipping through my fingers.

I was going respond but 3 years on I find so much music of all kinds so poignant and it breaks my heart all over again. More than any other memories.

Sacrifice by Elton John, gets me but not sure why
All my life's a circle
I just called to say Iove you

‘The First time ever I saw your face,’ and ‘Chasing Cars.’ They get me ever time. No idea why

Jeff Buckley ‘Hallelujah’ is heartbreaking.

"I see your face" Beth Neilson Chapman always makes me cry and smile at the same time.

I think all mothers of daughters must feel that about ABBA’s Slipping Through My Fingers, it hits the nail right on the head.
