Daddy Long legs

I thought that a daddy long legs was a crane fly, not a spider, though I think the term covers some arachnids as well.

Oh..cellar spiders..somehow that sounds much worse than an almost kindly Daddy Long legs !!!

Well these ones do and in fact when I went to catch one tonight it parachuted out of my hands and descended on a string Web!
Perhaps it's another species but it's what I've called them since a child !

I think you’re referring to cellar spiders. There are a lot around lately and they are breeding rapidly. You don’t really notice them until you put your hand through a web and disturb them.

I'm puzzled. The creatures I know as daddy long legs don't make webs

We seem to be having quite a lot of Daddy long legs in the house at the moment.I keep carefully putting them outside but then there's always another one.The little blighters keep spinning those really fine webs across doorways etc.Hate getting up for the toilet during the night and get a face full of tickly web...Horrid.Has anyone else got them just now and do you have any tricks to dissuade them from coming in ?
