Does anyone have a middle name?

I have the same middle name as my mother and grandmother. My sister doesn’t have one and she was always annoyed about that when she was young.

I have a middle name as did my mother and her siblings but my father didn't. My 3 now adult children all have 2 middle names.

All my generation and the next all have middle names. My mum, auntie and uncle didn't (born in 1920s). I have 6 grandchildren and they have unusual first and second names. I've had to write them down and all their birthdays on my phone!

My family was very small. I grew up without grandparents, aunties, uncles or cousins. Just sisters.

It meant the family name would die out, so my children have two middle names, one of which is my maiden name. Their names aren't hyphenated or anything, but I did want the family name to continue for just a little longer. My grandchildren haven't carried it forward, alas.

I have my mother's rather Victorian name as my middle name. It has become slightly more fashionable these days.

I have a middle name and nowadays I find it causes confusion. It begins McK and trying to get people to appreciate the small "c" and the capital K is a nightmare at times. Even if filling in the boxes on the letters just get muddled up. None of mt 3 children were given middle names. The person I inherited the McK from died before I was born. Can't see tge point of having a middle name that never seems to get used.

I don't have a middle name and definitely feel cheated as my parents both had them!
However, a former work colleague had two daughters (born years apart, not twins) and gave them the same middle name but spelt differently...Suzanne and Susanne. I always thought that was decidedly weird

We all have middle names including our parents but for some obscure reason we are all known by our middle names. It was planned that way by the parents. Eg 'the baby is called Jasper George, to be known as George.

watermeadow, I have two friends who hated their first names. As soon as they grew up,left home and moved away for work, they asked people to call them by their middle names.
Those of us who had known them from childhood just had to get used to the change. Not a problem. I rather wish now I had done the same.....😂

Yes I have a middle name, it’s short and unusual and I love it. I gave it to our eldest daughter, and she gave it to her daughter, so it’s stood the test of time.

we have a tradition in our family that the daughters take the mothers first name as a middle name, I have my mums name as my middle name, and both my daughters have my first name.

Definitely have a middle name. Helps to distinguish you from someone else with the same first and surnames. Also as initials at work can be helpful. It also allows you to pay homage to family members where you wouldn't choose their name as a first name.

My children all have one and so do we. I thought it was normal. More unusual not to have one.

We like to buck the trend in our small family 😂

No middle names for me or my sister.
My husband didn’t have one.
Neither of our 2 daughters were given one
And tradition has been continued as our grandson & granddaughter each have only one first name.

2 middle names, it's a Catholic thing, as many saints names as possible, then you get another as a confirmation to make one even holier One of my names is my maternal grandmother's, I would have preferred it as a first name.

I do wonder how the crop of newish, particularly Americanised made up names resonate at baptism, possibly frowned upon. my day choices had to be either saints names, biblical, or a virtue.

My middle name is my mums first name and my sisters middle name is our grandmother s first name.

I have one, it was my mother's name. I use versions of it when I don't want to use my own name. My own name is not very common, so no anonymity, I've nothing to hide but on social media sites I prefer something else, a bit like having a username here. I did not give my children middle names.

I don't have a middle name and was the only child in my class not to have so I gave both my children two middle names.

I have several and a confirmation name. I never use the confirmation one and most often when form filling have to leave off the last of the others as there is never enough room! The least among my siblings was three!

I love my middle name and have often used it. It's royal and was very popular.
My family all have middle names, it's surely normal I think.
