Good Moring Everyone,
Its light and dry with a grey looking sky over Brackley , still no sign of rain its been 4 to 6 weeks without any and the ground is parched .
Usual trip into Bicester to do a shop and chat to those i know , and a visit to local chippy for Fish & Chips at lunchtime , before I settle down to watch the Tour De France .
Health OK ,
Take Care,
Mick

Does Milo wear a bell on his collar LLFL?
And how are your husband’s bees doing? Is Camilla settled in?

Hello FGT. No, Milo doesn’t wear a collar. When he was chipped (?) as a kitten we were able to link it to their cat door. We have tried collars in the past but they lose them! I am afraid that birds must learn not build nests in my garden, next door have cats too,

OH’s bees aren’t doing well. Camilla isn’t thriving and another hive has died. Our granddaughter is coming to stay but when she goes home on Tuesday, OH will try and sort the bees out.

Blossoming, your mention of Preston Dock brought back so many memories for me.
As a child we lived on a council estate where you could then walk across a couple of fields to the river just on the approach to the docks.
At that time 70 odd years ago the banana boats were regular visitors, it was such fun to wave to the sailors as they passed.
They seemed so exotic having come so far to bring a fruit that was still a treat.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane.x

Good morning all from sunny Lancashire where it is a much more comfortable 21°C.

MrB and I have been for a walk to the top of the Albert Edward dock this morning. Preston has two Dock basins and we usually walk around the lower one, it’s smaller and has the best birdwatching.

Wishing everyone a pleasant Friday 🌹

Good morning everyone from the west midlands. I can't believe that it's nearly 11 o'clock & I have done absolutly nothing really!
DH has cleared-orf shopping as he likes it, I don't! It gets him out from under my feet & he gets the chance to talk to nice ladies for a change!
Best wishes to all & wishing everyone the best day possible. 🌞

GG13 we ate in there last night. Lovely meal and beautiful surroundings.

karmalady Fri 17-Jul-26 10:54:29

Grammaretto I don`t wear many of the clothes, I end up giving many away, all the toiles for sure. They are all part of a selection process and eventually I do cut into my good fabrics eg Belgian linen. I have to be sure that the garments fit and are comfy as well as looking good before I embark on using my precious best fabrics

I also look on it as a nice way to donate to a worthwhile charity

A very late Good morning Micheal and all GN's on a breezy and slightly cooler morning in North Yorkshire.

I had a bad night and awake about 3.30am with my back giving me such a lot of pain. Difficult to get back to sleep, and struggling a lot this morning. Extremely frustrating , as the weather would allow me to get out now it is cooler , but I have taken so long to get up. Hence I have been reading all your posts and plans, but done nothing but getting showered and dressed so far.

Yesterday another rubbish day with my back, and so it was trying to mix it, getting up for a while and then lying flat to ease things. With a struggle , managed to get the bedding washed , but just stuck it out on various clothes horses on my lawn, couldnt manage to go down to the washing lines. Not sure if there is some rule about only using the proper washing line, but it was do what I could . That and getting washing up done, was about the best I could manage and read quite a lot.

My cleaners were rather late coming, which didnt matter a great deal about the time, but I was in a slight panic, in case they were not coming, as hadnt remade the bed or done much. However they duly arrived and soon had the bed sorted and everywhere hoovered and cleaned . They were also very good about checking in the cupboard and reaching to the back for things like the new salad cream. When they first started coming to me, I used to feel they were a luxury , and I could do the things myself. Now they are definitely a necessity, but their once a week visit lets me keep going here, in a reasonably tidy enough way.

When I am like this I find it difficult mentally to choose between pushing myself into doing something, and accepting that this is how it is ,and not letting myself get uptight and frustrated about what I am Not doing! Feeling like that doesnt actually improve matters ,I know. However, while I acknowledge that I am now 81, my brain still seems to think I am about 50 and should still be able to do what I did 30 years ago!

Well I enjoy reading the posts and remembering visiting many of the places you write about, and your adventures. I read all your doings Marydoll , and have both sympathy and also memories of similar happening with my husband at times. Glad you had good results Dragonfly. So many of you managing to do great cooking and sewing in this weather. I admire your industry and ability.

Hope that you all have a good day, time to creak off and walk about a bit.

Good morning from a delightfuly cool Co Armagh
I’ve been out watering the flowers in pots , as someone has said , the beds will have to survive
Lots of butterflies about , it makes the chewed stock plants worthwhile, I did start picking off the caterpillars but left them when i decided the plants were ruined anyway ,
Glad to see Marydoll and oh are getting help and hope it works sooner rather than later
I was going to add flowers , but remembered the hayfever sufferers !,

Good morning from Sunnyside northwest coast. My swollen gum has gone down and I’m off soon for a walk around our prettiest park followed by a lunchtime recital.

It’s quiet now DD has left for the south apart from the local big golf tournament. My late DH was a member and was a steward some years. It never interested me, but it’s good for the town.

I bought a magnificent large reduced hanging basket on my day out with DD. It needs a lot of water, as does everything now.
Thoughts to dragonfly and all with worries 🌺

WhiteSwan63 Fri 17-Jul-26 09:04:31

Good morning from a great east coast it’s grey but mild. I’m sitting outside with my second cuppa listening to the birds. My DH has just watered the garden before going to the gym. We’ve refilled all the bird baths and we have a lot as our DGS empties every one out when he’s here. The fat ball feeders are full of blue tits and great tits.

Today we are back to my uncle in hospital he’s having a scan on his chest and abdomen today and more bloods. We will have fish and chips in Scarbrough before we come home. There is a good one on the front that caters for gluten free. I’m on calorie counting now so I’ll only have fish and mushy peas no chips. It’s making me very mindful what I eat and have lost 3 pounds in two weeks so I’m pleased with that. I’m more happy that my red wine intake has significantly decreased.

I must go and replenish the meal worm dish for the blackbirds.
Have a lovely day if you can with moments of joy🌼🌼

Yet another hot and sunny day for which I am not in the least grateful. Will regret that statement in a few weeks but am finding life hard work in the heat; it is hard to keep the house comfortable and my capacity for effort is minimal but I will make myself play bridge this afternoon before my brain turns completely to slush.

Sorry that life continues to be so hard for Marydoll and hope for even a little improvement soon.

Grammaretto Fri 17-Jul-26 08:41:51

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It turned out warm and sunny yesterday so maybe today will be the same.

I took my Helpers with me to Musselburgh yesterday as I had a dental appointment there.
I left them at the harbour and after ice-creams I remembered the beautiful NTS garden at Inveresk. So we enjoyed the beauty and peace and quiet. We seemed to be the only visitors.

Today they have gone to Glasgow and Fort William for the weekend Harry Potter Experience

I have cancelled my volunteer shift and I'm not going to U3A as both involve walking and I am such an invalid with the sciatica.

I may creep back to bed......

Great clothes Karma. When do you have time to wear them all?
My 11yr old DGD was showing me her creations. She'd made a skirt and a tote bag, using plenty of machine embroidery!

I hope all the holidaymakers are having a good time and our poorly ones are on the mend. that includes me

Have a good weekend everybody.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where another sunny and very warm day is on the cards. Our Boy Wonder is 14y this weekend and we are all going out to the pub for one then a curry (his choice) to eat tonight.

Keeping up with tradition his parents have bought him the new Man Utd kit and when son in law went to the official Utd shop near where my stepfather lives, he got the away strip for me to wrap and give tonight. Himself would be pleased about this it’s what he always did. There’ll be one happy lad this weekend!

Being a summer baby, his best friend will be 15y the first week back in school in September! He has to play catch up all year. His mum said “he’ll notice it most when his mates all start their driving lessons!”.

Good morning everyone from a rather grey East Northants - I am here at DD's as we get ready for our journey up to Liverpool for family ruby wedding celebrations. It is cousins of my late DH who are celebrating
We went to their actual wedding and also their silver wedding.
Looking forward to seeing all the Lancashire cousins again - there are lots of them.

My cats went off to the cattery yesterday and didn't cause me any problems getting them into their carriers!

DD and I went to our ladies wine gathering last night and tasted a lovely selection of Italian wines along with a delicious supper.

Wishing all a pleasant and cooler day.

Grandmabatty

Dragonfly I asked that question about Susan a few days ago but got no response.

I have been trying to find Susan's email address, but I think it is in an old email account.
I will try later. There are gremlins in my PC.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire where we are promised a 28 degree day!

I am afraid that Milo managed to kill another fledgling. That’s three now and the parents were distraught.

I made a large batch of meatballs yesterday, a large tub of vanilla ice cream and lots of chocolate sauce. Granddaughter is coming to stay for a few days while her parents go to Vienna. It is her last day in Year 5 and they are having a class picnic. She will be driven over afterwards. Tomorrow we have tickets for the theatre and on Sunday we will go to the cinema. Not sure about Monday but it will involve shopping.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning all from a sunny S Hants again, the weather is very Groundhog Day.
Safe travels and enjoy trips out today, glad holidays are working out well for those away.
MrJ is off to Belfast later, his family and friends golf weekend, back Monday on his birthday.
Hopefully my son will return my car today.
Enjoy your Friday all.

Good morning from Glasgow, where it is 12 degrees C.

Karma, what a talented lady you are. I love the material.

Another busy and eventful day yesterday, with Mr MD surpassing himself.
Initially all went well.
I visited the surgery for the third time this week, much to the amusement of the receptionists, who are becoming my new best friends.

It was then off to the hospital, where DH went for his ECG, while I went in the opposite direction for my chest x-ray.
I knew Dollie was in the hospital somewhere, while her other granny was having physio, so I went looking for her.
I found a very bored girl, sitting with her grampa, she jumped up and ran to me, when she saw me.
While talking to her grampa, I noticed, that under her cardigan, Dollie was wearing a cropped top. I couldn’t stop laughing, when she suddenly wrapped her cardigan around her, because she thought I would disapprove. She is of that age of eleven, going on sixteen.

I asked DH how he got on with his appointment. A thorough medical history was taken, along with bloods. Progress at last.
He was asked if there was any history of heart disease in the family.
His response was NO.He forgot his mother had a triple heart bypass, his father died of a massive heart attack and his brother had serious heart problems.
He doesn't do himself any favours. 🤬🤬🤬

DH and I were finished about the same time and decided to visit the Asda, five minutes from the hospital, as I hadn’t been out shopping, due to being unwell. Old Mother Hubbard springs to mind.
I picked up a nice dress and DH (who wasn’t quite with it, to put it mildly) threw it in the trolley, of which he was recklessly in charge.
As we came out, the dress fell off and got tangled around the wheel. Despite me calling to DH to stop, he blithely walked on, making the situation even worse.
In the end , DH, a security guard, those using the ATMs and random passerbys were involved in trying to release it. It was 26 degrees and I thought I was going to pass out.

DH then had the bright idea of tipping up the trolley, to get better access to the wheel, it had a box of non-alcoholic beer in it. A few expletives were uttered.
Who would believe, the detritus, that was inside that wheel. –including a clump of human hair.—YUK!🤢
The dress was eventually released, apparently unscathed, according to DH. He lied! When I checked at home, it had a huge oil stain right down the front.
Apparently it was all my fault, for buying a dress, that I didn’t need.

Biting my tongue and trying not to say anything during the debacle , I glanced at my top, only to notice that the Velcro on my wrist splint had totally destroyed one side of it. There were so many pulled threads, I don’t know how I missed that!

I am feeling rather rotten this morning, will it never end? I took my antibiotic and anti mausea medication, just before I went to sleep, in the hope that I would not feel the efffects of it. Hopefully, this nauseous feeling will pass.

I was touched yesterday by the messages from posters. I am feeling very low and miserable and those PMs gave me such a boost. Thank you.🥰

I hope you have a pleasant day and best wishes to all our poorly friends.
