I’ve lost just under two stone in few months no medical help just by cutting out all the rubbish. I feel fantastic my health has improved a lot all blood tests normal I’m very happy it’s taken so much work and dedication, but I’m coming up against negative remarks from a few people, some really rude. Im actually shocked that people can be so nasty it’s baffling to me. Why would someone comment on another persons weight?

Weight loss and comments
(16 Posts)I think you are very unfortunate. I did something similar and people merely commented on how well I was looking.
The unpleasant remarks come from people who are envious and resent anyone doing anything they would like to do but cannot be bothered to do.
Congratulations, I am sure you look great.
I know what you mean.A while ago I decided to get a bit healthier and cut out the sugary snacks and eat less bread.Cut out alchohol. I have always been pretty slim so it was more because I felt so tired and had a fungal toenail that wouldn't clear up without horrible medication, rather than for weight loss.So I thought I'd clean up my diet.
I felt blooming marvellous, still ate loads of fresh food and had much more energy. But was shocked at peoples comments. Asking if I was ill.Why had I lost weight ?
I thought would you go up to someone plumper and say My ,but you're looking bigger today? !The snacks have crept back a bit but I still eat lots fruit, veg and homecooked food and just the odd glass of wine.Ignore them .Well done.!
People seem to feel they can comment on people’s weigh as much as they like and quite rudely sometimes.
Weight gain! You’re a lazy greedy person
Weight loss you’re looking ill or are you on the jabs!
People shouldn’t comment on people’s weight, bodies or appearance, unless invited to! (IMO)

Yes, they most certainly would comment on someone who’d put weight on, as I know only too well.
HeavenLeigh Why would someone comment on another persons weight?
Because they're jealous, or or rude, insensitive, or all three.
I'm slim, rude size comments cause me to smile and say "Thank you" -- there is no pleasing people who lack filters.
I think it must be because they think you are on Mounjaro jabs or similar and they don't think its possible without.
It is rude to make any comment. About weight gain or loss. Or even clothes or hair style, but thats more difficult and I suppose no one would say that's a horrible dress or hair cut although they may think it. I expect some rude people would say it.
I had something really unpleasant said about my outfit just as I was entering a room to meet people I didn't know. And it was said by a close relation. Didnt do my confidence much good. This was about 40 years ago. My answer today would have been shorter and ruder.
I barely tolerate a very dear friends husband as he always seems to make such personal comments. What have you done to your hair eg.When its due for a cut.Taking the mickey out of my not so strong Yorkshire accent.Bit rich as he has a thick regional accent himself. All gets very boring and unfortunately I now find myself quite offhand in any responses. Some people are just rude.
Oh dear, I commented on someone’s weight the other day. I hadn’t seen her for a while. She has struggled with her size for years and was winning the battle. I said Wow you look great!
She seemed delighted. 🤷🏼♀️
My husband has been really poorly and since January he has lost 6 stone
He was watering the front garden the other day (before the hosepipe ban) and the man who lives across the road came over and said
"Are you ill?"
to which my husband replied, "no, why?"
and the man replied "because my wife said you were fat before" and then he mimicked someone fat by blowing up his cheeks and holding his arms out to make the shape of a rounder person and he wobbled from side to side
That was the end of the conversation...
And if we’re yourDH JaneJudge I would have turned the hosepipe on that nasty neighbour! what an insensitive thing to say!
Some people simply have no decorum do they?
I actually think people are jealous of anyone who achieves anything positive in life, like losing weight because they themselves have no inclination, willpower or inspiration do the same for themselves.
we actually couldn't quite believe it!
one of my sons suggested the man might be jealous of my husbands garden
JaneJudge How rude. I think early signs of dementia can be the making of inappropriate remarks. Could that be the case? No one could be so rude otherwise.
PamelaJL your comment wasn't about weight directly and I am sure everyone would love to be told they look great.
I was told by a Zimbabwean colleague "Lovely to see you, and look how nice and fat you've got!"
He assured me it was a compliment.
I've lost a lot of weight recently in an attempt to reduce my high cholesterol and now weight less than I did for my daughters wedding over 20 years ago. I do remember at the time, though, that someone did say to me [it was meant kindly I might add] but don't lose any more. I think I was probably close to looking gaunt in my face back then and, as someone that has suffered with eating problems and body dysmorphia throughout my life I do need to be careful now.
A friend of DH often said to me "clothes by Oxfam , hair by Flymo" which I always found really funny. The Oxfam bit was very true. Always a charity shop shopper from early 20s before it was acceptable.
