And Happy Birthday madeleine !

EkwaNimitee Fri 10-Jul-26 07:50:12

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. It was a lovely cool 15°C when I got up so I opened all windows and the french doors for a while but now it is warming up rapidly, we are forecast 30°C.
Yesterday I did the ironing whilst it was still relatively cool and then cleaned the bathroom, that was it for the rest of the day, just reading after that.

Today will be a day of little doings, still feeling a bit wambly which I rather think is due to weaning of the steroids. Unfortunately I have a hospital appointment this afternoon to discuss the possibility of infusions for the osteopenia. It's right at the height of visiting time so parking will be more difficult than usual. I've thought of going on the bus which takes me right there but involves walking to the stop then half an hour on a non-air conditioned bus...as opposed to 10 minutes in an air-conditioned car and the possibility of not getting a car space in time. Can't decide!

Thoughts to all of you suffering the worse heat down south, my DS1 is having a miserable time too with lots of windows facing south.

Happy birthday Madeleine 🎂🎉.
We watch all the canal boat diaries with Robbie Cummings nice easy watching, there is also another programme on 4 about canal life called narrow escapes.

Good morning from Suffolk which is as sunny as the previous few days. I have a hair appt late morning and library books to return and that’s all I intend to do today.

My birthday celebrations continue with a visit to Covent Garden for a matinee of ‘La Boheme’. DH is very worried about the heat tomorrow in London, not a consideration when the tickets were booked. We are going by train and will get taxis to and from the ROH avoiding the underground.

We haven’t been to the ROH for a performance for a few years and I think this may be our last, so going to my favourite opera is a special treat.

Your Consultant seems to have taken great careR&L in explaining the procedure and aftercare for your op and reassuring for you to have confidence in her.

Hope those suffering in the heat find today less of a trial than yesterday and others who are unwell have a better day.

Good morning Micheal and all GN's from an already warm and sunny North Yorkshire. I am gradually getting back to more normal waking times, and need to get out for some necessary shopping as soon as I can, as want to be back and out of the sun asap.

Yesterday felt a little better but rather washed out and anything I tried to do took ages as I creaked around. I had said I might try to g o to the meeting, but it was far too hot to go and so I stayed at home, with curtains drawn etc, and taking my own advice, drinking cooled water and using cold wet flannel to cool face and neck etc.

The cleaners came early, and said that mine was the coolest place they had been to. I was glad that they came as things looked worse than usual, between feeling ill and not being able to pick anything up, so they sorted and hoovered and checked stuff in bottom cupboards etc. They were not looking forward to their next job as the house is very warm and the lady never shuts the curtains. I gave them some bottles of very cold water to take with them.

So one thing I found on the tv was Canal Diary with Rob Cummins. He was up on the northern canals. Before we went sailing we used to canal and I have done many canals , but realized that that was 50 years ago. Could it be so long ago? So I have been right up to the top of the Llangollen canal and down the trent and Mersey and the Leeds Liverpool and down the Ouse to York. York even then was a very busy place and so to arrive by boat and be able to moor up near Lendl bridge was the easiest way into the city. Lots of memories , good and bad of cruising around, but very peaceful and calming. You went through the middle of towns and then up on aqueducts where sometimes people had no idea there was a canal going across above them. Anyone else done any canaling around?

Today is my birthday but I have no plans to go anywhere or meet anyone with the weather as it is, but waiting for a cooler day to get together . Amazingly I actually received some cards yesterday, which is a miracle, as the post has been appalling taking days more than they should and arriving in batches , which looks as though they are not doing daily rounds. That makes me feel ancient, as I remember NOT sending cards too early as you knew when they would be delivering them.!

Well looking out, there is a little breeze so need to make the most of it and get the yellow peril out and brave the town, so I will come back to read more later. Have the best day you can and hope you can keep cool

Jaxjacky Fri 10-Jul-26 07:42:45

Morning all, 23 already in S Hants, it’s relentless.
A day of bits and bobs yesterday until settling down for tennis.
Tesco delivering later today, I’ll offer the driver cold water.
At least you have a schedule now R&L your surgeon sounds considerate.
Happy boating Sar
Keep as comforting as you can all.

Astitchintime Fri 10-Jul-26 07:36:54

Good morning from the NE Mids. Late start for me today although I have already showered and sorted a load of laundry. Another hot day forecast so apart from pegging out the washing I’ll not be doing very much at all.
Stay hydrated, stay safe and if you’re out and about, do take care.
Have a good day one and all!

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 10-Jul-26 07:34:03

Morning all from West Oxfordshire where another scorching day is promised.

YesterdayOH suggested visiting our nearby NT property, walking in the gardens and having a cream tea, I knew I couldn’t manage it so I stayed home and he just had a quick wander.

I am going to our nearby town early to avoid the searing heat. I have a dress to drop off at the seamstress and a few things to buy in Waitrose. I also have a new bathroom bin to click and collect. The inner bucket of the current bin simply disappeared.

I still have ironing to do but I might ignore it for a bit longer. OH has his own pile.

Have a good day everyone. Keep hydrated.

luluaugust Fri 10-Jul-26 07:26:27

Good morning from an overcast W Kent. Another dreadful night. A bit of a choice today we could go to our favourite garden or a friends art exhibition but I think it may just be some light shopping and watch the tennis.
R&L glad you got somewhere
Marydoll I really hope the antibiotics do their job soon
Love the tops karmalady
Enjoy the days out and small GC mine are very large now!

Grandmabatty Fri 10-Jul-26 07:24:14

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 15° and sunny. I think rain is forecast for this evening.
Yesterday I made some rhubarb jam early on, before the heat kicked in. It turned out really well. Then I drove to dds house to take in the food bin. As I arrived home, my neighbour called me over and invited me to sit in their garden and have a cuppa. 2 hours later I left with a bag of gooseberries! They are a lovely couple. I did little in the afternoon as the humidity was too much. Marydoll I can't imagine how awful you felt, needing heat relief from the pain on such a warm day.
Later the new iron was delivered.
Today I will pick up my repeat prescription and that's all. The hoover will be delivered today at some point. I will do some weeding in the morning. It's much too hot for me in the afternoon. I'm missing Susan56 and hope all is well with her. Have a good day all.

monk08 Fri 10-Jul-26 07:20:00

Good morning all from the Black country.
Today we have friends arriving from Portsmouth, we met them 46yrs ago in Menorca. Due to circumstances they will not be stopping with us like they usually do but in a nearby hotel.
Will see how the day pans out once they arrive I do know they are planning to visit our DS this evening it's the only time he is free to see them.
RosesandLilac good you have a timescale for your OP your surgeon sounds very caring explaining everything.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans and stay cool 😎.

kittylester Fri 10-Jul-26 07:15:11

Good morning all from a hot and sticky North Leicestershire.

I went to sleep with the light on and kept waking up but couldn't work out why. I slept much better when I worked it out.

A little bit of shopping today and I have to do some ironing before we go away on Sunday.

Wimbledon this afternoon.

Have the best day possible everyone.

brook2704 Fri 10-Jul-26 07:09:38

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s warm and sunny, with some rain in the forecast for later
Enjoy your sailing holiday Sar53, it sounds so lovely
At last you know what’s happening roses I’m sure it does feel scary but we’ll be with you all the way
I’m off to the gym this morning then if it’s not too hot I’ll have a wander by the river and get the bus home later.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Redcar Fri 10-Jul-26 07:07:12

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Another hot day is forecast. Yesterday I drove to DD1’s, and we all went with my niece and a few friends to a woodland burial ground to inter my sister in law’s ashes. My brother is buried there and it was interesting to see how the site has matured since I was last there.
My car was like an oven when I got back to it, most unpleasant, the air conditioning isn’t very efficient either, unlike DD1’s car where the ac was brilliant.

I’m planning on another quiet day today.

rosesandlilac yesterday’s hospital appointment seems to have been informative for you and hopefully reassuring.

Safe journeys to those who are travelling today, sar your week on the boat sounds good and possibly a little cooler?

grandmattie I’m another one who has to walk on eggshells when talking to my DDs. It can be quite tiring at times and also distressing!

Have as good a day as possible everyone.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 10-Jul-26 07:06:47

Good morning from Stockport.
A very poor night, the heat made any attempt to sleep difficult.

Yesterday was so uncomfortable that I felt ill.
I went out for a bite of lunch with a friend, I could not really enjoy and was pleased to get home, my clothes seemed to be sticking to me.
I went straight upstairs to change and couldn’t get down in time to answer the door to a parcel delivery which needed signing for .
My GD was unable to leave the phone call she was on so the driver went away, I was so annoyed.
I didn’t want to eat later which resulted in acid reflux which in turn made me sick.
I’m afraid I can no longer deal with this heat and today will be worse, moan, moan ,moan!!!

I shall spend today in a dark room.

R&L I am happy for you that you know more now about your operation, I am sure it all sounds daunting, just put your faith in your surgeon.

Keep hydrated and cool everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jul-26 07:05:46

Good morning from S E Essex, another glorious day 🌞it’s already 21°

I missed a few phone calls whilst watching the 11yr olds end of school production, it was the GP, wanting to see me today, so off I trot at 12pm.

No other plans other than sinner this evening at a local Tapas restaurant.

Sar53 enjoy your time away on the boat 🛥️

Marydoll I do hope your drugs kick in soon, and you begin to feel better.

grandMattie enjoy your walk in the woods, Bellasnana I can feel your joy in your treasures through your posts.

FGT2 just keep on ^doing you* 😘🥂

Indiebee Fri 10-Jul-26 06:41:27

Good morning Mick and GNs from the sunny East Sussex coast.
*Rosesandlilac * thank you for the update on your appointment. Your surgeon sounds caring and thoughtful and it’s good to know who will be doing the op.

Waiting in this morning for some packages of books DS has asked me to store in my loft. This evening I’m looking forward to a keyboard concert by the students at a local secondary school who have free music lessons through an arts charity that I support. They will be a lovely mixture of excited, scared and proud and the audience will be wonderfully supportive.

Hope everyone has a calm and happy day.

Ashcombe Fri 10-Jul-26 06:29:03

Good morning from another hot day in La Sarthe. Like the rest of the week, it’s likely to exceed 35 deg later.

I’m glad you have a timescale and details regarding your operation, RosesandLilac.

Enjoy your day out, grandMattie!

Bon voyage, Sar53!

Keep cool, everyone! 🦩🥰😎💐🦩

Marydoll Fri 10-Jul-26 06:19:15

Good morning all from Glasgow, where a temp of 26°C is anticipated.

I eventually fell asleep at 3am, then woke again at 5am, in unbearable pain.
DH has brought a heat pack for me, rock and a hard place springs to mind; Either die from the heatstroke or try and bear the pain.🤣
To add to my woes, there is a burning itch across my chest area, which is driving me mad.
My GP says it is all part of the infection in my body manifesting it.
One bonus is that I may lose weight, the antibiotics are playing havoc with my stomach.😉

I need to visit the surgery again this morning, then apart from making salmon fishcakes for tea, it will be a quiet day.
It is a family favourite and my children have all requested a share. I will be at it all day!!

GM, I feel your pain. DS1 is extremely prickly, I often avoid engaging.😪 It's easier that way.
Surprisingly, he asked after my health yesterday, I must be at death's door.😉

Harrigran, Anstruther will be a glorious place to be, unless the haar comes in, one of my favourite places to holiday. We always stay in a cottage in Cellardyke, overlooking the sea.💚

I hope Dragonfly is OK. 💐

Wishing you all, a pleasant day and my thoughts are with our mountaineers.

RosesandLilac Fri 10-Jul-26 06:12:58

I’m another with eggshells and my DD. She’s pretty much not spoken to either of us now for well over a year, just the occasional text 🤷🏼‍♀️ We have absolutely no idea what we’re supposed to have done grandMattie

grandMattie Fri 10-Jul-26 06:11:57

Youyright, r&l, I think it IS Woodchester. I’ll let you know tomorrow.

grandMattie Fri 10-Jul-26 06:10:45

It must be lovely to have your treasures singly occasionally, bellas. And your nails! What a shame. I look forwards to seeing the newest lot. No tennis racquets then?
Hope you feel better, madeleine, and that all went well yesterday r&l, and things are going forwards. ❤️

RosesandLilac Fri 10-Jul-26 06:09:45

Good morning! It’s sunny already here in south Glos and I have had the grand total of 2 hours sleep so feeling bleurgh….
I think your walk is at Woodchester grandMattie, near Stroud? It’s a fascinating abandoned mansion, I’ve been there several times and i love it there; I hope you enjoy it too, it’s very atmospheric.
Well, yesterday’s appointment was to meet the surgeon, not a pre-op. She explained everything in detail and showed me my scans, very interesting. I will need to get to BRI for my pre-op and then surgery which will be mid August so I finally have some sort of timescale. I have to admit it sounds scary now I have heard the full details.
She was very nice and reassuring but says I need to be prepared to be unable to do much at all for several weeks and to expect to take analgesia for up to 3 months.
So, that’s sorted!
DH is off kayaking, he was banging around until the early hours getting his stuff out of the attic etc, I just couldn’t sleep at all.
A very quiet day for me, hopefully with a nap sometime.
Housework and laundry needs doing, I’ll get going shortly.
Take care everyone, send hugs to those needing one x
🌹
