Good Morning Everyone,
Its light but dry just before Sun up here in Brackley .
My movements today will be governed by the weather ,despite having water with me , the conditions have got to much for me.
Health OK,
I will watch the Tour De France even there they have relaxed rules as to riders taking drinks and other fluids .
Take Care,
Mick

I’m usually posting between 7 & 8, but usually check again later to see what or who I’ve missed! I may wake up at 5.00 but don’t get up until later and rarely do anything productive until 9.00.

Both my dad and my DH were always up early, I think I’m rebelling against the forced early starts when I was young!

MawsRosie Wed 08-Jul-26 15:52:21

The thing about being up at sparrowfart, round the supermarket, beds stripped and washing hung out all before 7 o clock - what on earth is left for the rest of the day?
I had enough of early starts in my working life or when the children were tiny, so I feel I have earned a leisurely start to my day .
But as you say - each to their own.

grandMattie Wed 08-Jul-26 15:48:25

Each one to their own. Personally, I don’t think there are enough larks around. I have to wait hours for anyone to rouse themselves to do anything!

Indiebee Wed 08-Jul-26 14:51:13

Yes - I think we owls need to continue this happy thread into the afternoon and evening!

Barbadosbelle Wed 08-Jul-26 14:45:24

.

I'm amazed at the number of people on here who are up and writing SO very very early.

Surely 7:00am is early enough?
But 5:00am?!!

(Maybe I think like that because I've always prefered a long afternoon and evening than an early and long morning.
.

Indiebee Wed 08-Jul-26 14:35:05

Good Afternoon from the very hot East Sussex Coast. Not sure if Good Afternoon is sacrilege on the thread!

Went to my exercise class this morning and the sensible tutor just had us doing calm stretching and twisting exercises, no aerobic jigging which she usually includes. Great. And then apple juice outside under the trees of a local cafe.

Keep well and cool everyone.

TanaMa Wed 08-Jul-26 14:12:13

Dogs (my Boxer and visiting Labrador) are not happy that they can't go for a walk, but relaxing in front of two fans!!
Once upon a time I loved the hot, sunny weather, but now at 91 find it too much!! I have stripped the bed, washed the bed linen and hung it out to dry in the sun. Hadca shower to cool off a bit, and am about to go and fill the water trough for the ewes and lambs - not mine, a friendly farmer - but he never comes to check on his sheep!! Also have two stray ewes - the size of small ponies - in my drive. No idea how they have got in ornwho they belong to!! However, too hot for me to do anything about them!

uttb my lovely mother in law used to say “Please others and you’ll displease yourself”. Take heed and go with your gut feeling.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 08-Jul-26 12:40:41

litterpicker that made me laugh!

I liked a very old key ring I had. It said “I used to be indecisive now I’m not sure”.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 08-Jul-26 12:10:41

I have also taken the decision to stay indoors today, already 28 and rising.
I have made my excuses to my neighbour which gives me more time to make a choice as to keeping up the visits or not.
My family are firmly in one corner, give it up, at my age it is not worth being upset.

aggie Wed 08-Jul-26 11:23:28

Good morning from a very hot Co Armagh
I went to the greenhouse but beat a hasty retreat after splashing some water about , there are some tomatoes turning colour ! Not a sign of anything on the cucumbers
I have the awning out , it keeps the south facing kitchen and sitting rooms cool
We actually got it to keep out the winter sun . Being south facing the low sun is very strong shining straight in
I’m sitting here expecting Homes Under the Hammer ! Forgot about wall to wall sport !
I’m not going outside again today
Stay cool and hydrated everyone

Good morning from West Sussex by the sea. Another day of blue skies and sunshine. I love it when the temperature is mid-twenties and not too humid. DH prefers nothing much above 21 degrees. The very high pollen affects him too.

I got up early to that I could go with DH to a meeting in Worthing where I planned to go to Waterstones to buy my next bookclub read and have a wander and a coffee until he was finished. We were then going to DD1’s, a little further east along the coast so that I could continue with weeding her garden while she paints the metal garden table (I was planning to start as soon as it cools a bit in the afternoon). Anyway, DH, had a phone call from someone also going to the meeting and arranged to go with him, saying I could take the car. Then he decided he wouldn’t come to DD’s. Now there is no reason for me to stop in Worthing apart from the bookshop and I was hoping to be driven there 🫤. I am sitting at home now trying to decide whether to drive or take the train. I am so indecisive!

Gelisa and am envying your trip to Shetland. I would love to go there but want a guaranteed calm crossing! The weather looks good for your journey.

Ashcombe, your photo of the ‘castle’ made me laugh when I enlarged it and saw what it was made from 😀

Grammaretto, so sorry your back pain hasn’t eased - hope the physio can help.
Harrigran, I’m sorry to read that your pain is spoiling your holiday in that lovely part of Fife. I’m glad you have the lovely view to enjoy.

EkwaNimitee, what a frustrating journey to Newcastle. I love taking the train but it is so unpredictable.

RosesandLilac, as others have said, that was a lot for one hot day when you are already unwell. Advance preparation is good but not if it leaves you exhausted. That’s good advice about protection from cuts and scratches in the garden and using the hydrocolloid plasters. I hate wearing gloves and tend to plunge into weeds and shrubbery with gay abandon. It is probably time I took a little more care!

Marydoll, I hope your econsult results in some treatment for you 💕

I think I have decided to take the train but I will have to leave behind the verbena bonariensis I had potted up for DD3’s garden. I may go on to Brighton and get the bus back to DD’s. I can pick up my book in Brighton.

Enjoy your day as best you can and thoughts with those suffering 🌷

Good morning from Sunnyside northwest coast. Slipped up yesterday as thinking the music club was meeting after a three week break due to repairs at our venue, I turned up armed with music etc. to find scaffolding still in place. Strange nobody mentioned it to me…

A guitarist friend also turned up by mistake, so we went for a coffee where he talked the hind leg off a donkey for a couple of hours. I had a card I painted for his recent birthday with me, so was able to give that to him.
Today to the usual lunchtime recital and I think I’ll go in by bus for a change whilst the weather is nice and have lunch in town. That solves my evening meal.
I’m abandoning my latest book for another, life’s too short to force an interest.

Thoughts to Marzipan and R&L🌺

Marydoll I hope you get a reply to your e consult today and a bit of help.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 08-Jul-26 08:29:11

Morning all from West Oxfordshire where the temperature may reach 31 degrees.

I seem to have overslept. I wasn’t particularly busy yesterday - WI coffee morning followed by a visit to a friend,

Today I must pop over the road to another friend with some bits and pieces for her. She is feeling the heat. I also have bottles to deliver for a bottle stall at the forthcoming Village Festival this weekend. I can’t attend most of it as I’m out all day Saturday making a ceramic cat and out with our daughter on Sunday.

Have a good day everyone. I’m finding this extreme heat quite befuddling.

luluaugust Wed 08-Jul-26 08:21:25

Good morning from a Sunny W Kent
I think my visit to a new hairdresser has gone well although a different experience to my old one. I am used to young hairdressers and lots of music, this was a mum and daughter team very pleasant but left me sitting for ages with wet hair which I don’t like. Result as asked for so will probably go back
Today visiting friend with her foot up, week 3 I think and needing a good chat. Later tennis I guess
R&L that was a busy day
Marzipan Hope your SIL recovery goes well
Best wishes

Jaxjacky Wed 08-Jul-26 08:15:26

Morning from already warm S Hants.
Goodness *R&L no wonder you were worn out, rest today.
Very good advertising Ashcombe 🙂
Lovely gardens Gelis thanks.
Yesterday was quiet, cleaner came, garden was watered late at night and MrJ went to bowls early evening.
Must get something out of the freezer for tonight, ring the library, nip to the cashpoint and wash towels.
You must miss your haven Marzipan hope your SIL recovers well.

Gingster Wed 08-Jul-26 08:01:49

Oh sorry posted to soon,
Take it easy RandL.
I hope your SIL recovers now he’s home Marzipan and you’re back home to your little haven.

Take care all.🌺

Good morning, it's 16C here, with cloudy skies.

Roses, please don't over tax yourself. 💐

I have just done an e-consult, I have been feeling pretty grim for days.
In my immunocompromised state, I have obviously picked up a virus. I hope that is all it is.

Enjoy your day, what ever your plans.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 08-Jul-26 07:58:17

Good morning everybody from Málaga where it will hit 37°C by noon. No matter, I like the heat and there’s a gentle breeze. It’s the humidity when high wot does for you!

I’m lunching at 2pm with my lovely Glaswegian neighbours. I had to bail on them a week ago when I had that tummy bug so it’ll be really nice to catch up with them today.

I think I’ll nip over to a supermarket beforehand as supplies are getting low. I’m getting through so much bottled water! Cheap as chips out here, unbelievably so.

Gingster Wed 08-Jul-26 07:58:13

Good morning all.

This morning we have the ‘ear’ lady coming at 9.30 to clear DH’s ears. 👂 I’ll then catch the bus up to town, I usually walk but it’s a steep hill and in this heat, it’s a no go. I have a few things to get and then meet my friend for a coffee, a visit to M and s and she’ll run me back home.

No brunch out for Dh as his pal is otherwise engaged today.

My new painting has arrived but I need a handyman to come and repair the plaster on the wall where it will hang and then hang it for me.

EkwaNimitee Wed 08-Jul-26 07:57:36

Good morning Mick and everyone from a rather cloudy Carlisle where it is 18°C.
Yesterday I took the train to Newcastle. I arrived at the station to find mine cancelled due to a blockage somewhere. I had to wait for the next one which was half an hour late. To make up time, they cancelled all the stops so we flew to Newcastle where I would have been just a few minutes early for my physio appointment if only my taxi driver hadn't been the dimmest one on the stand! We got close so I stopped paying attention but a few minutes later realised I didn't recognise the street he said was the right one. It wasn't. Long story...after he'd insisted there were two streets with the same name (there aren't) and we eventually arrived at the right one, I was late for my appointment but it went ahead as I was the last of the morning.

Problems continued going home, all was chaos at the station with all trains either being cancelled or very late due to various issues and with platforms being changed at short notice, the announcer was in overdrive!
I was exhausted by the time I got home and did nothing for the rest of the day. If only I could face driving through Newcastle I would take my car another time.

Today I''ll probably go into town for some retail therapy and then back to progress some laundry. It's due to warm up even here so it may go outside for once.

Have a good day everyone if possible and you, rosesandlilac, just rest up!

Marzipan22 Wed 08-Jul-26 07:56:07

Thank you Ash. Much appreciated. 🌺

Grandmabatty Wed 08-Jul-26 07:54:25

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 16° and cloud is lifting. Roses don't underestimate the effect of heat. I think you achieved a lot yesterday. Ashcombe great photo!
Yesterday I didn't achieve much at all. I did strip the bed and got the sheets etc washed, dried and put back on. Dd kept me informed and sent photos. She sent a lovely photo of the 2 boys, beautifully dressed in smart shirts and shorts as they went out for dinner.
Today I hope to recover some motivation and get housework done. Fortunately the temperature should not be as high here in Central Scotland and I will put the fan on if needed. Later I will nip to dds house and put out the food bin and check for mail. Have a good day all.

NannyJan looks like the meet up has been cancelled hopefully we can both make it next time. Hope you get your Mum sorted.
