Good morning Mick and everyone from grey Carlisle.
I hope it's not going to rain as I'm going into town shortly for a bit of necessary shopping including some fresh fruit and veggies, only the most basic selection being available in our convenience stores. I shall probably have a look in M&S, I'd like a loose fitting blouse or two for my autumn holiday, they'll be into winter woolies if I wait till then.
Yesterday morning I hustled through various cleaning and tidying jobs so that's that for this week. I went out deadheading in the garden after lunch, the roses are finishing their first flush now. I picked the last of my peas. They have been disappointing this year, poor germination and a poor set though the peas themselves were delicious. I shall go back to my usual variety next year.

Happy Golden Anniversary ginny. Have a lovely day both of you.

That's a dreadful story harrigran. We should be able to get on with the Chinese but they seem set on undermining us in various ways. It's very sad for the pupils and their families.

Grammaretto Fri 03-Jul-26 08:18:54

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.

Happy Anniversary Ginny 🎉 🥂🍾
Enjoy your surprise?

I'm going to try to do my shift at the store today though my back is still hurting a lot despite the chiropractor's efforts.

It's worse at night and gradually improves through the day. My new Helpers arrived yesterday from France and want to begin tackling the jungle of a back garden.
They aren't up yet so I don't know what will happen.

I hope you feel better soon FGT so unlike you to be unwell.

Harrigran and greyduster flowers

I hope you all have a good day.

Good morning from Malaga - sun’s up. We’re just playing this break by ear - brunch is organised, then a wander perhaps towards the cathedral or to the marina. We’ll catch a couple of hours sunbathing on the hotel roof, then out again later to eat while people watching.

Pleased to hear your appointment wasn’t too bad Rosesand and some progress at last.

Best wishes to all. X

glammagran Fri 03-Jul-26 08:08:21

Good morning from sunny Wiltshire. It was a much warmer day yesterday. Did mainly admin stuff yesterday.

Happy Golden Anniversary to you and your DH Ginny. I hope you gave a lovely day. 🥂

I hope you are feeling much better today FGTs and. An get out.

I read the article about the Chinese owned schools closing without notice Harrigran. How have we allowed this to happen? The Chinese now own many private schools here they can do whatever they like with. I am very much against the new proposed Chinese embassy in London.

Have a good day everyone.

Marydoll Fri 03-Jul-26 08:07:42

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it is only 13°C.
I was so cold in bed last night.

Congratulations Ginny.

Yesterday turned out to be yet another calamatous day. DS asked who has put a hex on us.
I decided not to wallow in bed and got up to get something to eat.
On opening the fridge to make French toast, I found broken eggs. What a mess!
I had just put on the French toast, when DH called me from the garden: one of the large trees had split down the middle during the night, what a mess!! 😱
That's nor all, look behind me, said DH. At first I could see nothing, then I saw it. The back of my gazebo was missing. The wind had ripped it off.😭
I told DH, I would be out once, I had something to eat.
There was no breakfast, the toast was burnt black!!

Giving up on the charcoaled toast, I put on the washing machine. I was suddenly aware that the house was silent: no TV sounds and more importantly, no washing machine sounds. The machine has tripped the fuse box. 🙈
I went to inform DH, who was standing looking at his electric saw. It was unusable, due to a bare wire.
I came back in to a flooded utility room. 🌊

The only way to tidy up the broken branches was to saw the thicker ones. The half a tree was perched precariously against the perimeter fence and needed to be moved,
I tried to help DH, by dragging the lighter branches to the side of the house. Heaven knows how many trips to the tip it will take.
By lunchtime, DH's face was grey: he was looking awful, I told him to go in. A couple of months ago, he would have managed this with no problem.
With frequent rests, I managed to clear up most of the mess, I was still at it at 8pm.
I do not know where I got the strength, DH was fit for nothing and couldn't help.
The last straw: I was brushing up reluctant leaves, when the garden broom broke.😭

DH and I are fit for nothing today. However, I am very smug, that somehow, I managed to do this, unaided.
Just call me Karmalady.🤭 That is a compliment, Karma!

We received some sad news yesterday. DH's golf partner's bone marrow transplant has failed. DH is devastated, as are we all.

Still a bit of clearing up to do today. I hope the rain goes off!
I also have a new washing machine and tumble dryer to order and also an electric tree saw to source. I have asked DH to release funds from the Swiss bank account. 😉
I will leave buying a new dishwasher until next week.

DD is delighted, she will enough wood to last the winter. 🤭

Wishing you all, a pleasant day.
Roses, I have been hoping yesterday's experience wasn't too unpleasant and you are on the mend, FGT. ♥️

PS.
I am sure there are posters on GN, who must think, I am a fake poster. Surely no-one can be living such a dramatic life!! 😉

Good morning from a cool northwest coast. I’m feeling a bit better after what I think may have been a reaction to stopping my statin medication suddenly over a week ago through to the very severe cramps I’ve been experiencing for ages. I pick up a prescription today for a different statin, so hopefully that will improve things. The doc I saw was good and even asked me if there was anything else I wished to discuss, so didn’t rush me out at all.

My automatic garage door has broken and the engineer comes on Monday. It prompted me to tidy it up and brush it out.

I now have a date for my BIL’s funeral in the south at the end of the month and I will drive down with DS.
Art this morning and a concert to prepare for on Sunday.

Glad you are feeling better FGT, congratulations ginny, thoughts to R&L and all🌺

Morning from asunny S Hants, as gagagran said it’s so dry.
Happy Anniversary ginny 🎂🥂 have a lovely day.
It’s my daughter’s 40th today, we’ve just rung to sing Happy Birthday!
Collecting a cake after lunch for her ‘do’ tomorrow, farm shop this morning, grocery delivery this afternoon and pub tonight.
Have a pleasant day all.

BlueSapphire Fri 03-Jul-26 08:00:54

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton again. Should be another warm day so will take things gently.

Yesterday I saw my optician who has given me the all-clear to resume normal activities after my cataract op. She has also referred me to have the other eye done.

Made a large batch of Bolognese yesterday and now have four portions to go in the freezer. I think I will make a batch of chicken curry today.

Have decided to attend the gentlest of my dance classes this morning to ease myself back in - it is a ballet Barre class, lots of stretching and gentle controlled movements concentrating on balance and poise.

Shall make the curry when I get back, and then I may cut the front grass.

Wishing all a pleasant day, especially ginny and Mr ginny - happy anniversary to you both! 💐💐🍾

grandMattie Fri 03-Jul-26 07:57:28

Happy golden wedding anniversary 🎈the ginnys.
fgt, glad you’re feeling better.
r&l, happy that all went well yesterday and also going ahead for the procedures…
❤️

harrigran Fri 03-Jul-26 07:56:21

MawsRosie, yes this is the same story.
GD's school site is up for sale already 😡
Galaxy Global can not be contacted, this company should never have been allowed to purchase schools.
Not only school fees paid and lost but very expensive school trips to Iceland, Italy and USA paid in full and will never happen.
Sorry for ranting on this thread.

Ashcombe Fri 03-Jul-26 07:51:28

Good morning from a beautiful, sunny morning in Torbay.

Congratulations on your Golden Wedding Anniversary, ginny! 🍾🥂💝

We have a few errands to run today, including having keys cut for a lovely young couple who live in our block who only have one between them for the main front door with inevitable consequences! As we shall be in France soon, we won’t be here to let them in when necessary.

Later we plan to have a meal out at The Babbacombe Inn, our favourite local with gorgeous views of the bay and friendly service.

Wishing everyone the best day possible. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

RosesandLilac Fri 03-Jul-26 07:51:20

Good morning, it’s dry and there’s pale sunshine with hazy clouds here on the hillside in south Glos.
My afternoon in the hospital went well; I had an armful of blood taken for my preop, 8 vials! I was in the new Dyson Cancer Centre, a very impressive building with air con and comfortable chairs.
The sigmoidoscopy went well although very painful in bits, I had entenox but ……
No cancer obvious but severe diverticulitis and scarring from IBS. Samples were taken and I watched the whole process 😬😁
I didn’t sleep well but a quiet day today so that doesn’t matter.
I’ll go and do a bit of gardening after I’ve finished my tea, tackle the next border which is a jungle! I’ll probably just tidy it a bit because it’s where the frogs and toads are, being adjacent to the pond.
Best wishes to everyone x
🌹

Redcar Fri 03-Jul-26 07:40:25

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, where it’s blue skies and sunshine again. There is a pleasant breeze so I hope that will keep the temperature down a little.
I had a lovely lunch with my niece and her DH yesterday, hearing about their recent cruise around Scotland and Ireland.
It’s bingo at lunchtime in the village hall, we may have my 3 year old DGD with us as she’s unable to go to preschool because she has an unidentified rash! Her mum has to try to catch up on work she couldn’t do yesterday.

ginny Happy Golden Wedding Anniversary!🥂

I hope that those who are poorly find some relief today.

Have the best day possible everyone, keep cool if you have the hot weather again!

Liberty Fri 03-Jul-26 07:39:26

Good morning from a sunny and pleasantly warm Suffolk. My main aim today is to finish the pile of ironing from our holiday which ended over 3 weeks ago. I should,or must, plant out a dozen little geranium plants and a lavender I bought 2 weeks ago. At least they look ok having watered them regularly.

Hope you have a lovely time celebrating your golden wedding Ginny and those feeling under the weather have a day of improving health.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 03-Jul-26 07:37:56

am! I really ought to preview my posts!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 03-Jul-26 07:37:21

Good morning everybody from Málaga where we are an hour ahead of the UK and at 8:30pm the heat is rising although we do have a nice cool breeze in mitigation.

This today from the SUR in English:
“A new heatwave is set to hit Spain from this weekend -
Temperatures will rise on Saturday and, in particular, on Sunday, resulting in record-breaking highs that could continue until at least the middle of next week”

That’ll be me in the shade and well hydrated then!

I’m feeling much better now (thank you grandMattie) but will take things cautiously. I will have light food today and see how I go.

I love opening the front door here and standing on the landing looking at this view while the kettle boils, smelling the pine trees and listening to the parakeets who are so cute flying in formation but very noisy! I do think the mountains provide a lovely backdrop.

Astitchintime Fri 03-Jul-26 07:36:30

Good morning from a bright and clear NE Mids. Nothing in particular planned for today - food shop is done and family are all working or at school so it will be a potter in the garden day. We have a lot of chickweed this year, and I mean A LOT! I’ve never known the front borders to be so inundated with the wretched stuff. However, I’ve also identified a beautiful borage plant that appears to have been self set as it’s not something I have planted. It’s providing great ground cover and the pollinators love it, so it’s staying.
Have a good day one and all!

kittylester Fri 03-Jul-26 07:33:27

Good morning all from, as dragonfly says, a sunny North Leicestershire.

I have to go to Waitrose today and then nip into the village for a card for Wolfie who got a magnificent report. It was so good that we wonder if they have the right child grin

We are going to see Jersey Boys tonight (our next door neighbour is one of the leads) so will eat somewhere in town before.

I think i know where you are off to, Dragonfly - it's lovely but we always spend too much money.

Happy Anniversary Ginny.

Have the best day possible everyone.

brook2704 Fri 03-Jul-26 07:26:13

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a dry and bright start to the day, still looking a bit windy though
A very Harry Anniversary to you both ginny enjoy your special day!
I’m off to the gym this morning and then later meeting up with DD2. We’ll do a bit of shopping and then have a coffee somewhere. I don’t think I’ll see the DGC as they’re with their dad this weekend.
Love your birthday present bellas looks hard work though!
greyduster ❤️
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

MawsRosie Fri 03-Jul-26 07:20:21

harrigran

Good morning from the NE where it is dry and a comfortable temperature.
Yesterday was a day of odd jobs, stripped the bed and washed the linen.
Prepared some holiday clothes in between reading g and replying to messages from the family.
DS and GD were at a second school in Newcastle, they were
trying to secure a 6th form place so she can study music.
Another school closed yesterday, a one with 700 years of history, it is very sad.
One of the admin team put out a message yesterday saying that the closure was not about VAT or falling rolls, the truth is deeper and more complex and the truth will eventually be out.

Today my hairdresser is coming at lunchtime then I will do some packing. Not sure I feel I feel like a holiday now, all the upset has made me very unwell. Stress and diverticulitis do not go well together.
Have the best day you can.

Good morning everybody, forgive the segue into N&P onthe GM thread, but this caught my eye.
Heartbreaking for your DGD Harrigran - is this the same story?
A CHINESE company that has closed three prestigious private schools in a matter of months “raises clear national security concerns”, the Government has been warned.
Galaxy Global Education Group confirmed this week that Ruthin School in north Wales, one of the oldest schools in the UK, and Durham High School will close with immediate effect.
I do wonder if we are sleepwalking into a nightmare.

Gagagran Fri 03-Jul-26 07:19:40

Good Morning everyone from a pleasantly warm, central south coast, with a clearing sky and the sun coming up quickly. Still no rain in the forecast so everything is getting that dry, dusty summer look.

DH persuaded me to go out for lunch yesterday and I am glad I did. It was busy in the restaurant but we had a tucked away corner with a good view and the usual very nice food. I managed to eat sea bass, new potatoes and tender stem broccoli which is the biggest meal I have had for some weeks. I enjoyed it too!
Afterwards, he drove us round the most beautiful village in this area. The tide was in and looking stunning with the sunshine sparkling on the turquoise water. It was so uplifting to see and enjoy after days confined to the recovery suite at home!

Today I am tracking DD's flight home from Hong Kong which was almost 4 hours late departing so she is going to be very tired. It is a 13 hour flight too so little sleep will have been on the menu I suspect. She is due to land at Heathrow about 9am.

Our Tesco delivery is due this morning and I hope I do not have a repeat of last week when 15 items were unavailable!

I also want to check to see if my blood test results are back and if I can now order my repeat meds without amendments.
Otherwise, recovery mode continues.

Take care everyone and kind thoughts to all with struggles or worries of any sort. May the day bring some relief.

dragonfly46 Fri 03-Jul-26 07:18:47

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.

We are going to a local country house today which has a lovely courtyard. My DC bought me a picture for my birthday and there is a good framers there. The one in our town has closed down.

Hope you are feeling better FGT.
Greyduster flowers.
Happy Anniversary ginny.

monk08 Fri 03-Jul-26 07:14:34

Good morning all from a sunny Black country.
Today I'm meeting DS it's the boys school summer fair, hope it's not to sunny there aren't to many shady places.
Happy Anniversary Ginny have a lovely day 🍾🥂.
Hope all went well with Roses yesterday and that FGT is feeling a little better.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans 😎.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 03-Jul-26 07:07:58

A much earlier Good Morning from Stockport.
I have had a disturbed night with little sleep and have been reading for ages.
It seems quite sunny so far, it was chilly yesterday.
Happy Anniversary Ginny I hope you enjoy your day.
I hope to be taken to a decent sized M&S today, a few bits I want to look at and a walk round the food area.

My GD’s house purchase seems to be moving again after a lack of response from the vendors legal team.
They hope to exchange contracts soon, then a completion date.

Have the best day you can everyone.
