I have no where to be today and nothing major to do so could have a lie in and listen to my audio book but I feel guilty if i do. What time do you normally get up each day or do you feel guilty lying in bed.🤔

I go to bed around 2 or 3am, and get up around 11, I’ve tried and tried and tried to go up with husband at 10pm, and up by 9. but it’s never stuck!
I love the peace and silence of the house, and no one to talk!

I do and I do not feel guilty. Taking time to rest, whatever that looks like, is self care.

(Ok, I would feel some guilt, but I would push through and rest anyhow if I needed it)

I don’t go to bed before 2am so I lie in to 10am or later and I don’t feel a bit guilty! I’ve worked all my life and now, unless I have an appointment or a reason, I get up when I’m ready.

Someone I know takes great delight in telling me how early he goes to bed & gets up in the morning. I love reading & being on my own read when I want to. Sometimes till 2amish! Why should I feel guilty? It is my life & probably not a lot left at nearly 82. So if I spend the night with my nose in a book & sleep late its down to me. Do hate at my age being told I should be up early & to bed early just because he does!

No after over forty years of being a newsagent and starting work at 6am, it is a delicious delight to wake up at 5.30 and then stay in bed until 7.30 with a cup of tea and read the paper!
Been retired eight years and still enjoying this every single morning.

Greciangirl Tue 16-Jun-26 15:31:50

I wake up every morning at 6am.
I don’t want to wake at 6am. It’s infuriating.
I would dearly love to wake up,later, say 8am, but no.

I try to get back to sleep but it’s hopeless.
I reluctantly get up when bored and make a cuppa to take back to bed and wake up properly.

It’s all to do with the clocks going back. A ruddy nuisance.

I don’t feel guilty about anything! Oh, perhaps one thing. When I was a teenager I used to stop the cat sitting on my knee because I was afraid it would crease my dress. That was very mean and vain of me.

HobbyCat Tue 16-Jun-26 14:26:14

Why feel guilty? I don’t really understand why you would. After years of getting up to be somewhere which started with school when you were @ 5 years old you deserve to have as many lie ins as you want! There’s no-one to answer to is there?

No don't feel guilty at all. Now my DH has also retired sometimes it's 9.30am before we rise. Who cares? We're enjoying our retirement the way we want to. If we've got things to do, on a particular day then we'll set the alarm, get up as necessary like responsible people, but usually we suit ourselves and long may it continue.

To me, having a lie in is one of those great pleasures of being retired. I’m only up before 8.30 if I’m going out somewhere early or have an appointment. Otherwise, I can easily be in bed reading or listening to the radio until 9 ish. No guilt!

Lupatria Tue 16-Jun-26 13:56:30

I feel no guilt when I have a lie in.
when I retired I vowed not to get up before 9.00 which eventually got stretched to 10.00!
currently i'm recovering from a groin strain - very painful - and sometimes I haven't got up until lunchtime! however bed rest has proved an essential part of my recovery.
hopefully in the next few weeks the pain will get less and less so I can get up earlier and get to catch up on the household chores I can't manage right now.
thankfully I live alone so nobody else can see the state of my house!!

In a word no 😀

Taichinan Tue 16-Jun-26 00:01:20

Cocopops 😂
I'm one of those who can't lie in. I just don't enjoy it, but I wouldn't feel guilty if I did! I'm not a lark either and my normal time for waking is 7-7.30 ish. Getting going after getting up is another thing altogether! I love a leisurely start to the day and if I've nothing to get going for breakfast can last until lunch time 😉

Q."Do you feel guilty for having a lie in?"
Well, I suppose it depends on who I am having a lie in with grin

Bellanonna Mon 15-Jun-26 22:19:26

Not sure what there is to feel guilty about. I get up when I’m ready to, I’m in my mid eighties and unless I have something to do, when I would put the alarm on, I get up as and when, although that’s not usually very late as I get pains in my shoulders and legs which disappear once I’m up thank goodness.

GrannyIvy Mon 15-Jun-26 21:10:58

I usually get up between 8 & 9 but feel guilty I am so much later than I used to be !!! I also feel guilty if I am not busy doing something all day. I an 70 and retired so why? But …..

Patsy70 Mon 15-Jun-26 18:44:04

Good heavens no! Why should I? I’m 79 fgs.
Incidentally a lie in for me would be getting up at 9 am.

LOUISA1523 Mon 15-Jun-26 17:54:44

I love a lie in ....I'm up at 7 if I'm in work .....I'm up at 7 if I take GC to school....sometimes on a Saturday if I'm doing nothing til the evening I stay in bed until 2ish ....love it!

paddyann54 Mon 15-Jun-26 15:02:33

No,we’re night owls rarely in bed before 2 am so are happy to lie and chat and cuddle until 10am or longer if the mood takes us.We both worked full time from age 15 ran our own businesses since we got married at 20 and 21 so long lies now are nothing to feel guilty about

SpinDriftCoastal Mon 15-Jun-26 14:08:23

Up about 7 but don't get going till 9.

Norah Mon 15-Jun-26 14:00:58

No guilt.

Dogs do need walking, we wake up early, out we wander.

AmberGran Mon 15-Jun-26 13:57:04

I retired a few years ago, having spent most of my life getting up a 5 am, and it's only the last year or so I've started having a lie in occasionally. Not because I felt guilty about it, it just wasn't something that ever occurred to me to do as there was always something to get me up and about.

I'm usually awake by 5 am now, but might have a couple of hours reading my book with a cup of coffee wrapped up in the warm if there is nothing planned for the day. No guilt at all. I probably would feel guilty if I started doing it a lot and it got in the way of things I know need doing though.
