We employed a couple of Polish joiners to do some work for us and they were fine . When we phoned them the next time we needed them one of them told us that his mate had stolen his van and gone with all his tools . He lives in the next town to us so DH offered to collect him and provide the tools he needed to do the job . When he took him back he paid more than the chap wanted to charge because we felt so sorry for time . A year later we contacted him again and he is back on his feet and doing OK .When he finished the job we had asked him to do he refused any payment because we had been good to him when he needed it . DH insisted on giving him some money but we were really chuffed that he felt that way .

Happy weekend everyone, especially Birthday Gals. Suncream and brollies and thermals for those going out grin

Sago do have a fabulous weekend.

Cossy. Do you take your cossy to the van?

It’s important to keep positive if you can. I always think there’s nothing I can do about what is happening in this country so you just have to live your life as best you can and be thankful. We have a nice weekend coming up with family then friends and if the weather stays nice we will all have a great time.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend whether at home or on holiday.

Well, my train from Oxford to Paddington was on time - it usually is! I am looking forward to meeting younger son for lunch at one of our favourite restaurants in London. Then to Buyer’s Day at the Summer Exhibition. OH said not to spend too much. Mmm. He is making quite a large purchase next week. Son is coming back for the weekend and we are having Sunday lunch out at probably the best Sunday lunch venue in the area.

So that is my positive news. I do read or listen to the news each day, I feel I should be informed, however dreadful and difficult the news currently is.

My younger daughter had her first child recently, he's gorgeous and they are both healthy, so we have lots to be positive about. I'm enjoying getting lots of pics of the baby and updates and are visiting next Wednesday again. I spent a few days with her recently and don't follow social media when I'm away tbh it was so very refreshing that I almost ditched Gransnet completely when I got back home, however, I decided to just come on the site less.

Basgetti

Not sure of the geography but do get to Skipton if you can. The castle is incredibly atmospheric and the town lovely. If you’ve a dog, great river walk.

We used to live just outside Skipton.

Our plans are to do the Himalayan Gardens at Grewelthorpe, Newby Hall and Fountains/Studley 7 bridges walk.

PS Happy Birthday to all celebrating theirs this week 💐💐🎂🍾🥂

Have the best time and 🤞🤞for nice weather.

As most Fridays we are packed ready to drive to our holiday van, just a short 1.25 hrs if traffic good. We spend just two or three nights there while DMiL is still in home very close to our actual home and DH visits three days a week.

Have a happy, peaceful, positive weekend, one and all 🙂🙂🌸🪻🌻

Happy Birthday Merlotgran. I had my birthday this week too.

Reasons to be cheerful, 123…

It’s my birthday today so I’m going to DD’s for the weekend. 🥳🍷❤️
A visit to Hinton Ampner gardens planned for tomorrow so 🤞 for some ☀️
Mexico beat SA so I’m in the lead in the family sweepstake!
🇲🇽⚽️🤷‍♀️😂

Good idea for a positive thread Sago and lovely to read the positive activities of everyone else. Enjoy them all 💐
My car goes in for its MOT today to the local garage so I will have an enforced walk home which will do me good and then a walk back to collect it 😀
It is my birthday next Friday and I will be spending it in Venice with a friend of 50 years.
As she uses a mobility scooter, we have spent much time organising an “accessible” itinerary but looking forward to whatever we can manage.
Will see the son, daughter and grandchildren over the weekend at some point for birthday card drops so that is another positive thing to look forward to.

Enjoy your break in The Dales lovely part of the world. Stop off at Bettys if near Harrogate and have a cuppa ☕️ and a Fat Rascal🍪😁

If you are into nature and animals, perhaps a catch up of Spring Watch on I Player would be pleasant.

It’s important not to be a too avid news fan I think. There’s too much rolling news coming at us.
There’s life out there waiting to be lived.

Fallingstar Fri 12-Jun-26 08:53:37

Have a great time Sago.
Hopefully with better weather this weekend my DD and SiL are going to take my DH to his favourite local park and I get a chance to go into central London to meet up with an old friend.
Can’t wait, haven’t seen her for a couple of years.

Maggiemaybe Fri 12-Jun-26 08:48:41

Enjoy your time in the beautiful Dales!

I’m all for a bit of positive news. DH always feels obliged to watch News at Ten, but it sent me to bed feeling thoroughly depressed last night. An early night with my book tonight, I think! I’m meeting a friend for lunch at our lovely local tearooms today, then off to the first school sports day of our summer to cheer on DGS3. That should start my weekend off on the right foot.

We had a lovely day today down at a local winery ( we are lucky because we live minutes away from a large wine growing area ) . There were only the 6 of us and they catered especially for us with lovely home cooked Italian food. It was sunny and warm ( winter here so that’s nice ) and we looked across the beautiful vineyard to the distant hills, very rural . I love where we live, we are so blessed.

AGAA4 Fri 12-Jun-26 08:09:50

I urge all my ACs and GCs to get out and enjoy life. The news is so depressing and there is little we can do to change it so may as well have an enjoyable time if we can.
I'm meeting my son later for lunch so looking forward to that.
Enjoy your weekend Sago.

Bellanonna Fri 12-Jun-26 08:06:42

Have a great holiday, Sago in the beautiful area that you’re going to. Thank you for the positivity. I hope the thread stays that way.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 12-Jun-26 08:04:41

Ooh thanks for that Sago will have a look.

Have a fabulous weekend 🙋‍♀️

Sago Fri 12-Jun-26 07:54:59

We set off later this morning to our holiday let, I have a fridge full of pre prepped food, lots of wine and some lovely treats.

The weather forecast is good and we have planned some lovely walks with our friends who will be joining us.

I decided not to read any mainstream news, I only want to take positivity to the Yorkshire Dales so I ignored all my usual apps and typed positive news into Safari.

It came up with the most fantastic, informative newsletter ever.

I highly recommend it Positive.News.

A great start to the weekend.
