Why did you choose to join Gransnet?

I can't remember who recommended GN to me but I thoroughly enjoy reading through it each day. I am not a very frequent poster but have asked for advice occasionally and have been very touched by the responses I have received.

I don't remember why, but several years on and I still checkout it out on a daily basis

I was trying to find a skipping rhyme we had had at school when I was about 10. I never did find it actually, but my search led me to Gransnet.

Originally, I was interested because as I no longer live in an English speaking country, I felt my English was getting rather out of date and felt that a chat forum would be a good way of keepng abreast of some of the changes in everyday English.

I also was, and am, interested in the differences in everyday life between different countries.

I have found many interesting topics here, and a great deal of kind and useful moral support during my husband's last illness, and since he died.

Long may Gransnet continue it is a good place to drop in for a chat..

I joined Gransnet because I became a granny or nanny as I'm known as, to chat to other granny's. I found it online somehow, while searching Google I think.

My first post was to ask for opinions on a worry I had with GS1. I felt that his rule-bound parents were too hard on this lovely but slightly ditsy little boy. And I got sensible replies which I followed (mainly, don't interfere).
And I've derived much comfort in bereavement here, but it wasn't the reason for joining.

I joined when I found that step-daughter was expecting her first child and not having had any myself felt I needed to learn how to be a Grandma in a different type of way. I enjoy reading the posts and felt very moved at times over the support given to people who so much need it.

I looked at MN net initially and saw a post recommending GN so thought I’d have a look. I enjoy reading the posts but this is my first time posting .

I thought it would be good to chat, and pick up information, though I never knew how much I’d appreciate it until I retired recently.

Same here more or less ..
Even though I am not British, I enjoy some of the local posts.

Basggetti Even the Style and Beauty forum on Mumsnet had changed to become quite spiteful in the last few years. And a bit dull. And God knows I am not Stylish.

Because MN has become brutal. Feel much more at home here.

Because you can join a conversation anonymously, ask a question anonymously, air your views anonymously, offer support anonymously……..I am sure there’s more but I need to take my anonymous self off to get ready for my anonymous day 😎

Joined during Covid don't remember how I came across it but the interaction on the good morning thread was a welcome distraction from such bleak times.

I joined during lockdown when I was really upset at not being able to see my daughter and two year old granddaughter who we had looked after for two days a week - hence my username. I’m no longer sad so would like to change it. I enjoy seeing the varied points of view, even if I don’t always agree with them all. I’ve also picked up some handy hints over the years.

I dipped in and out of Mumsnet for many years. During Covid lock down I checked this out and stayed.
Still checking out both.

My daughter read about it on Mumsnet and I joined very near the beginning. I have never changed my user name. It has been interesting to see how it has evolved over the years.

I’m not sure how I found Gransnet but it was something to do with having long-distance grandchildren which piqued my interest.

I am not a joiner of anything so surprised myself when I took the plunge. It must have been around 2013 when DGD was 2. She was born and raised in the USA until she was 4, then came to Malta for three years before moving back to the US permanently.

It was so hard at first but lovely to find other grans in similar situations.

I’ve had so much support through sad losses, made lots of friends both virtual and in real life and enjoyed several cruises with Galen so it worked out to be a blessing that I plucked up courage to join in.

I still enjoy the daily interaction, living alone can get wearisome but there’s always someone on here to feel connected to. I’m very grateful for my Gransnet friends.

Upon realising that GN is one of the few (very few!) platforms that acknowledges the existence of unpaid carers. It's easy to become isolated and believe you are the only one juggling such circumstances.

For sure, successive governments look the other way as if we don't exist - they must think unpaid caring duties are magically done by Pixies......

I am not sure when I joined, maybe eight years ago. I came across it whilst wasting time on the internet. I am a great grandmother of four and met youngest grandson is 17 so I am pretty ancient. It is good to hear views of people in my age group as I have few as old as me around here.

I have picked up so many pieces of good useful advice and enjoy hearing others opinions. I post more these days as I have more spare time but do not find as many discussions to interest my as in the past. I tend to avoid news and politics as wgatever one says someone will not be happy! I generally enjoy contributions but feel it is a little tired these days, or is that me?

I joined after lurking for a couple of years. I found Soops kitchen a very supportive place and felt like I knew the posters. I would read when I couldn’t sleep during the night due to a chronic illness. I began to feel a bit embarrassed by lurking and not joining in. I don’t post every day but do read usually at night before going to sleep.

I read a news article about how Gransnet would be like Mumsnet but for the older generation.
I have been here since day one and it has been a great help to me.especially when my DH was terminally ill during covid and when he died.

Evidently, when I looked it up, in a former persona I was on here as long as 10years ago. I wasn’t banned, I just changed my name. Funny to read what I was posting about back then.
I joined back then because my life was going down the plug hole with health and other problems.

I have two versions in my head, and I don't know which is right. In one, I joined when I left full-time work in 2017. I was determined not to stagnate, and made a conscious effort to make new friends and find things to keep my brain active. I've always liked discussion boards (was anyone here on Handbag years ago?) and have posted on several. When I found GN I liked it and got sucked in.

The other version is that I joined in lockdown, again so I had something interactive to do. Either version could be right. I was definitely here during lockdown, but I don't know if I was new then or not.

I wish I could recall how I discovered it!

Company, advice, comfort, the politics, the games there have been times it has kept me going.
