I loved my school days, though not every lesson or every day.
I struggled with maths and art and hated games and PE as I was no good at it, and showers were awful. At least there was no bullying. But joining school choirs was sheer bliss and that love has stayed with me all my life. I did become Head Girl! I was Deputy but the HG left at Christmas to do a gap year abroad.
I became a teacher but after six different schools, it wasn’t until I found a job in a girls’ grammar, a modernised version of the one I attended, that I enjoyed teaching and stayed there for 21 years until I retired.
There have been many ups and downs in my life, some happy, some very difficult. I wouldn’t say that my school days were my only happy time, but I didn’t experience sadness until later.
