Anyone else not watching the World Cup

Have any non fans got anything planned for the six weeks the World Cup will be on? I'm looking through the streaming services and Youtube for old dramas to watch and, if the weather is nice, will be making full advantage of this. Only being in the office two days a week as well means I can avoid people talking about footballers I've never heard of.

Sorry can't wait! Wimbledom, World Cup and Commonwealth Games!! Bring it on but I love sport. Must be awful for those of you that don't.... it would be like 6 weeks of soaps, reality and game shows for me...horrendoys!

No, sport can take over tv, for all I care, I rarely watch it. There are so many different things I can do in that time.

I have several times planned visits to places of interest to coincide with really big sports (and other) events because there is hardly anyone else there. When Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer. My children and I took ourselves off to Bath for the day, we were about the only people there, and we could see everything in detail and had lots of conversations with the staff working there.

Not for me

Pardon my ignorance but when does the World Cup start? I thought it was played in July.

I have deduced from news reporting that it is being played across the North American countries, but that is all.

Although I am a bloke I detest football. Will retire to the library and invest some time in several good books.

Definitely won’t be watching.

I have no interest in football.
I shall probably read or watch Netflix.

World Cup? I didn’t know there was one. Someone mentioned footballers so presumably it’s given to whoever kicks a ball around the best but I thought football was only played in the winter, when the participants can get maximum mud on their clothes.
I’m so glad I only had daughters.

You do know women and girls can play football too, right?

Currently watching the England women's team play Spain in the world cup qualifiers group. OK far from our best performance but hey they brought a second European title home just last year.

I cannot wait for the World Cup to start! Will watch as many matches as possible. And living in California means the timing will be excellent. Also will sometimes go to our local “British” pub to watch with other ex-pats.

No interest but fortunately DH not interested either.

I hate June/July TV it is sport on all channels, footie, tennis, cricket, thank goodness not olympics or commonwealth games too, drives me insane, stick them on a sports channel and stop cutting our regular viewing schedule!

Abcdefg Fri 05-Jun-26 19:34:23

DH and I both loathe all sport

What a bunch of moaning Minnies! The World Cup is only on every four years, so it hardly dominates TV viewing. If you don't like it, don't watch it - but I don't understand how NOT wanting to watch something somehow makes some people look down on those who do want to watch it. I'm sure there are many things people on here love watching which I don't - but I don't pour scorn on them for doing so. Live and let live...plenty of other channels for people to watch.

We never watch sport, any sport, dh not interested nor am I. Drives me mad as we usually watch terrestrial tv but there is so littke choice while sport is on on nearly every channel. For what seems forever.

SillyNanny321 Fri 05-Jun-26 18:42:01

Wont be watching as there is only one sport that I think is worth watching & thats any motorsport but especially Formula 1 & BTCC!

AlpineGranny Fri 05-Jun-26 18:32:03

I will be watching but not as excited as 20 years ago with that golden generation. I'm not 100% happy with team squad but let's see!

Claretjan Fri 05-Jun-26 18:19:40

I like football and will watch if England and Scotland are playing at reasonable times. I'm English and Mr CJ is Scottish so could be interesting! We support the same English club though!

I can't wait! We are carrying out our family sweepstake on Sunday after lunch. Everyone is excited, we are a football family, both playing & supporting. It brings us a lovely month or so of playful enmity, jealousy of those with the home nations & top teams, and lots of WhatsApp messages on a newly established group. Such fun - for football fans. I'm just sad it's in the USA.

I was wondering if anyone else was having a sweepstake!

I’m not much of a football fan if I’m honest, unless I’m watching the grandsons play. I do admire some of our players though - Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford to name but two - and most of the family are really looking forward to it, so I’ll be catching a lot of the action over the next few weeks. I will definitely watch the home nation matches if they’re on during my waking hours, even if I do have one eye on my jigsaw or crossword.

I’m always up for a big international event, and particularly if there’s a sweepstake for me to organise. We’ll be pushing the button on the teams generator tomorrow. No doubt I’ll get four no-hopers, but I might just be in line for the wooden spoon prize. smile

"Not watching it either — I'll be in the kitchen with my dad making the most of the peace and quiet."
