Rain! At last!

After so many weeks with none, the heavens really opened yesterday, hooray! The garden is already looking a lot happier.
More is forecast for this week.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I do find it quite scary when it - just - doesn’t - rain. I dare say two trips to Australia when they had severe drought both times, haven’t helped.

Its been pretty wet in Cumbria for the last week!

Have anyone else’s cats behaved differently with the change in weather? Ours are all charging about like nuts today and quite skittish.

Our horses, always skittish in rain, when we are out they keep trying to turn for home, dancing about, even in their leather coats.
In the field they turn their rumps to the prevailing wind/rain,
as though they didn’t have an expensive shelter/trees, the dogs
too running around in circles like half wits.
The cats however are totally insouciant, yawn stretch curl up.

None of them are bothered by thunder or lightning, I bring them in so they are cosy.

Sunny now here, with blue sky and white fluffy clouds, but was raining when I went to work very early this morning, I cycled there and got wet🤬

Makes lots of green grass for the sheep.

Well, here in the north west we have no shortage rain

Haha Manchester and area is known for it isn’t it?

Iam64 Mon 08-Jun-26 13:58:29

I’m out with my dog on our usual field. Wellies

Mollygo Mon 08-Jun-26 13:52:33

It has rained (north west) for days now. Then suddenly we get a bright sunny sky on one side of the house and another imminent downpour on the other side.

With the rain, grass on our dog walk across rough fields went from knee height to shoulder height, with nettles and brambles suddenly even taller, making the pathways almost invisible and a real struggle to get through.

As a few hardy souls trample our way through, it’s getting better, but I wish I could carry a scythe!

Today on the south coast it’s non stop rain. My husband came back drenched from his golf earlier. They stopped at 9 holes. It’s pouring again here now. But the grass is greener and all the plants have put a spurt on so not all bad I suppose.

I'm happy to say it is still raining here (Surrey) and looks like it will last into next week. My garden is looking much healthier, the air is fresher and the car is cleaner 😁

But for those who want the sun - another heatwave due in the next few weeks so we in the South east will be back up to 34 degrees or so.

Hey ! A miracle in north Manc, the rain has stopped, sun peeping out, blowy. A good drying day mum would have said, so my duvet cover is on the line

Rain here again . I have plants to put in. Surprising after the rain last week to see how little it has penetrated. Ground still hard after a few inches.Still this should help.

Come to Hampshire.Soggiest county in England 🤣

I challenge this 🤣. I’m north Manchester where it’s raining again and so chilly my central heating came on.
Another wet windy dog walk awaits.

I think the wettest county atm is the one next door - Wiltshire. It hasn’t let up since last Monday. Our heating came on yesterday morning. Never happened in June before. 🥴

You just described perfect weather Cossy. Would be great if we could have that.

Cossy Mon 08-Jun-26 09:02:47

We had rain almost all day on Saturday!

Ideally, I’d prefer nice hot (not too hot though) sunny days with two hours heavy rain in the middle of each night!

Anyone able to oblige 🤣🤣🤣

Our neighbour's large gazebo blew over the fence and landed upside down on our shed one year in a high wind.

This morning our heating came on. We run it at a fixed temperature of 18.5 all year round and it hasn't come on for weeks because the weather was too warm, but today, with the temperature around 15 degrees, it came back on again.

It rained over night and off and on all day. We went out to lunch to a restaurant in on old mill. They had a craft and food fair going on, with lots of stalls under gazebos, but shut it down several hours early because the wind was rising and they were worried about the safety of the gazebos.

Having been a regular exhibitor at antiue fairs, mainly outside, for many years, I know only to well the damage a rising wind can do to a gazebo, even when it has weights holding it done.

Oh, oh. Another thunderstorm. Here they go again!!

Basgetti Thu 04-Jun-26 12:40:15

Yes, it was very windy. Bizarre, tails fluffed up, running the length of the flat and up and down their towers, even our more sedate older girl.

Is it the rain or the wind? I know that animals and children find wind unsettling.

RAIN, GLORIOUS RAIN!

A couple of nights ago I was standing out in it for 10 minutes in just my t-shirt and shorts when it was tipping it down; then yesterday after work I'd gone into Sainsburys, came out, and it was REALLY SERIOUSLY pouring, like very heavy Amazon forests! HUGE globs of water!

I was wearing a lightweight sleeveless jacket, t-shirt, and black leggings. While everyone else was hiding from it, I was just strolling around on the Promenade, the only one there, completely and utterly drenched, sitting on an extremely saturated bench, loving every second of the rain! I took my hat off, and in seconds my hair was clinging to my head! Such a lovely feeling!

When I got home, the jacket and t-shirt went straight in the washing machine, but my leggings were glued to me; I literally had to grab the scissors and cut them off and bin them, so it's lucky I have a ton of other leggings!

I find it scary when it doesn't rain too!

Absolutely love this Weirdo, I like your style sunshinesunshinesunshine

The rain is welcome shame about the strong wind and it’s getting colder

Visgir1 Wed 03-Jun-26 15:15:05

Had enough rain now... It can stop thank you.

We were once in a town where it hadn’t rained for years. It started to rain whilst we were there and everyone rushed outside the pub to watch it. Some little ones had never seen it in their lives. Outback South Australia.

When we were at Uluru for a few days some years ago we had non-stop rain, quite heavy at times. The walks around Uluru were cancelled, although some people went on their own. We were in our room looking out and couldn't really see the rock, it was just a grey outline.

The guides all thought it was great and kept telling us 'Hardly anyone ever sees the rain running down the rock, you're really lucky' but as we went there to see it glowing red in the sunrise and sunset we didn't feel that lucky.

A week later we were in the Blue Mountains to look at the waterfalls and there weren't any. The drought had dried them up!
