How do you hang your washing out?

My daughter and I always claim not to be neurodivergent in spite of if affecting most of the family, but when she showed me a photo of the school football strip hanging up to dry, she was worrying because she'd got the numbers in the wrong order and I was worrying because she'd hung them upside down!

There’s a science to hanging washing out properly! As I tell my husband - as we fight over the privilege to hang the washing outside.

I hang tops with the pegs under the armpits so they don’t stretch and the peg marks are not visible. Does that make me a washing line freak?

Only in the direst of circumstances (and maybe not even then) would my mother have put out washing on a Sunday. Brought up strict chapel by her granny.

I put them away . My DH leaves them on the line

My daughter leaves her washing out overnight…..I have tried and tried to teach her the dangers of washing getting ‘darker’ on……☹️

I always hang trousers from the legs and shirts and T-shirts from the bottom. My daughter hangs hers the other way around so when she is not looking I rearrange them.!!

Trousers from the bottom, 2 pegs per leg.
Tops from the bottom. Smalls on an airer without pegs. So much quicker to put out and to get in if it starts to rain.

I recognise a few of your oddities here in myself 🤣🤣

I take my rotary line down and put it behind the shed after it's done it's bit as well as putting the pegs in the peg apron that I wear.
And, if I can't be botherer to take off my house pinny beforehand I'll end up wearing both.

I always used to take the pegs in, but if dh gets the washing in ( he can run faster than me if the heavens open) he leaves the pegs behind. At first I would run back out in the rain and collect them. Now I leave them in place- and yes a few have fallen apart.
I peg most things to avoid ironing. Tee shirts hung from the bottom, blouses on hangers, trousers from the waist. Socks in pairs. Dh if he pegs out a top will often peg it from the shoulders, and jeans from the ankles. I keep quiet!
In our previous house we had a retractable washing line which was easy to wipe down before each use. I struggle to wipe the rotary lines down now- there seems so much of it and it’s a reach. Has anyone come up with an innovative method?

Pegs in the peg bag and away in the shed with the line when not in use.

But a peg is not just a peg is it? We have discussions here about which pegs are best - some have too big a gap and so things slide around on the line. DH has very clear views on ‘good’ pegs.
Wooden pegs are used for all sorts of jobs indoors, mostly sealing packets of stuff (flour, sugar) in the kitchen but also holding plant labels, as book marks, holding up the indoor fairy light….
Such a useful invention.

What about the pegs? I found I was wanting to always use a matching pair on each garment, but there weren't always enough of each colour. I therefore bought some packs of all the same (yellow) to spare me the anxiety!

Hate pegs left on the line. I also dry towels longways (landscape) someone told me years ago that they dry quicker?

Oh yes definitely put pegs away - I'm not a slut!!

When my youngest son was still living at home I couldn't bring myself to use red pegs on his clothes as he's an Everton supporter (blue)! He knew nothing about this

When I realised I was a peg controller I threw caution to the wind and tried to randomise my pegging. I now find I honor my best tops or towels with the nicest coloured pegs!
As a young mum I was once loudly berated by a neighbour for pegging out washing on a Sunday

I don't hang washing out any more. I have a rack in the utility room which I use all the time. I take stuff down when I feel like it not when it's dry or when it rains.

Tops by the bottom, bottoms by the top - although if it's something thick, I will usually switch it around to let the sun get at both sides. I also hang things in batches - trousers all together, tops all together and so on - and pegs have to match. I always take the pegs in afterwards though.
