I have always been a loyal supporter of the Royal family in my 88 years on this planet and it saddens me that so much sadness has been given in recent years by some of them and i wish that the media could refrain from mentioning Andrew or Harry and their clan when ever they follow the King and the rest of the royals doing their duties ,the King has only got to go to church and the media says of coarse Andrew is not there, who cares

The children are the future of the monarchy Luckygirl.

If they want it to survive and thrive, it’s no good hiding them away until they are adults, then expect the public to acknowledge their role.

It’s a very privileged life to be born into, with all the ups and downs that entails, but that’s life.

But they are simply children .... I do not think they should have their childhood disrupted by media interest. We do not have the right to demand our curiosity satisfied at the expense of their childhoods.

Fair enough when they are adults and if they then choose to stay with the firm.

I think the Royal family is part of a long tradition and I would be very sad to see it go. Looking at the calibre of leaders and politicians around just now I think it would be a huge mistake. What I do believe is that only the King, Queen and their immediate heirs should be part of it, not the extended family. I think King Charles is a good man and I like Camilla, too. I also think William will make a good King one day.
Jealousy is a curse, I feel no envy whatsoever towards their family and don’t envy them the constant limelight.

All state opened property , used exclusively by the royal family. along with the jewellery worn by them is actually a kind of theft.
It was taken by their ancestors from the people.
I have no time for the royal family and their entitlement, they are normal people like the rest of us.
Conceived in the same way, born in the same way live and die in the same way.
I do not believe in the king/ queen being sanctified by God at the coronation.
All to keep us in our place and to see people bow or curtsy makes me cringe.

Oh dear, that sounds very bitter.
And not strictly true either.

A kind of theft ? , surely theft is theft.

Does anyone believe the royal family are conceived differently to the rest of other human beings ?

My oldest son thinks that they should sell a vast proportion of their properties, most of the Crown Jewels and give the land back to the people.

Quite how that would work I don’t know, monies from properties and jewels to be split across all county councils to help local communities.

He does has a point. They do own a considerable amount of extremely large properties and a lot of land!

Your son perhaps should do some more research.

Most of their properties don't belong to them. However, why should those they own privately be sold any more than my home be sold and the money given to whichever people?
What about those unoccupied mansions in the UK bought by oligarchs? How does he feel about those?
Billionaires who pay no tax?

henetha Sat 25-Apr-26 19:34:52

Nobody owns them. They belong to the state.

The king does not own the Crown Jewels

Who does “own” them?

Not sure what you mean.
I deleted the one I had from Elon Musk.

Someone sent me PMs recently. Then deleted them. Odd.

Probably PM'd you in the evening when they'd had a glass or so of wine, then deleted when they were feeling more reticent / sober.

I know what they mean, I’ve exchanged a couple of PMs with others on here, some delete their messages once we’ve had our exchange, others don’t. Personal choice, I don’t delete mine. flowers

But I think the children should be left alone and not be part of the media circus or the family's PR.

Luckygirl3 Sat 25-Apr-26 17:47:30

We pay them a lot of money - they own vast tracts of our country and make a lot of money from them. Of course the media will be interested in them. It is inevitable.

MartavTaurus Sat 25-Apr-26 17:45:28

Cheeky grin.

Calendargirl you'd have liked the birthday photo this week of Prince Louis on a beach in Cornwall.

Calendargirl Sat 25-Apr-26 16:08:47

Personally, I like reading about the Royals.

I like looking at the outfits and jewellery they wear.

I know we have food banks etc, but I prefer seeing how they live as opposed to some Hollywood celebrity.

Think of what money was spent on Elizabeth Taylor’s diamonds.

They’ll always be wealthy people and poor people, that will never change.

It's remarkable how monarchy wrapped itself around states from the earliest city states in ancient Mesopotamia like Babylon right up to the present times. It's only relatively recently that some states have dispensed with monarchy. About 60+% of UN member states are not democracies so in those cases perhaps it hasn't died out but been replaced by dictators, tyrants and theocrats.

Do you think withdrawn PMs are a bit weird, Allira? I do.
