I have earmarked this afternoon to get all togged up and tackle a hugely overgrown area at the back of our boundary fence.
It’s full of weeds, brambles, nettles and wildlife.

However I’m still fiddling around in some rather nice clothes reading Gransnet!

What are you putting off?

Really need to mow the lawn now, yesterday felt too hot, this morning a bit breezy and this afternoon may be rainy....

Procrastination is what my late dear Dad used to call faffing about😄

Time you've enjoyed wasting is not a waste of time!

But for most of us, time is not being 'wasted' to do pleasurable things, it is being wasted doing anything or nothing to avoid doing what needs to be done and will distress us because it was not done.

It won’t distress me 🤭

This post has made me feel so much better ~ finding out that it's not just me!
Procrastination is my first, last and middle name!

I make a list and it can sit there for a week or longer. I slowed right down.

It has taken me 2 YEARS to read documents relating to a tiny pension sitting there. But I have passed on some bits and pieces and the charity shop is gradually getting things like one of 6 vases, some clothes that I will never get into again.

I've been putting off digging out the grass to make way for a new border. If I don't start soon it will never get done.

You could put down cardboard on the grass then heap compost or well- rotted manure on top.

Seen on a gardening programme.

Yes, I'd covered it last October to kill the grass and need to get in with it now but it's the fact the border is over 20ft long! Beginning to wish I'd never covered the grass 😁

Opening all the boring and never-ending bills that were delivered to my flat yesterday!

We had moths and I went on line and bought Moth Bombs. They fumigate the room and cost about £20. They worked. You could try that first snd after that I from time to time use the anti moth spray that Lakeland sell. They have two types of: one for carpets and the other for clothes.

Sorting out a Power of Attorney, updating my will, sorting out a funeral plan ......

I’ve been struggling for a while to get the motivation to declutter and give the house a good scrub.
I find it exhausting, make lists that I ignore and get really fed up.
Does anyone have any wise words to share? They would be greatly appreciated.

Small steps, do a drawer then promise yourself a break/drink/ walk.

Once you have made a start it should give you the impetus to carry on.

Do a room at a time and never go out without a bag for the charity shop or tip.

I tend to 'procrastinate' a lot when my wife mentions my two worst letters in the alphabet are spoken by her which are B and Q.

Winky wotsit - suggest that women these days can do what men can (apart from actual strength stuff).

Then she'll withdraw your favourite meals and Small Domestic Detail Management Service....

I like romancing around the house. Look this up, read that, think about doing that, watch that, feel guilty for not doing that, then guilt gets the better of me and I do it timed i.e. 20 minutes.

I'm procrastinating about our moth situation. They have been in the house for a couple of years now. We have sprayed cleaned etc but they made a bee line to a cashmere sweater of mine which I had for my birthday! So I took the bull by the horns and rang local pest control..........I hope you are all sitting down to read this. There are two types of eradication heat type costing around two thousand pounds and pesticide costing around 800 plus VAT. One good thing they give guarantee if they don't work they will come back and do a redo. The other downside to pesticide is they say I'd have to wash all clothes at 50 degrees which I never do with the exception of linen sheets towels bedding. Wish me luck. Our new bedroom carpet was not wool purely synthetic and hasn't really kept the moths away! Oh dear but I'm telling myself things could be a lot lot worse it could be ratticus 🙂🤔

Might be cheaper to buy a spare chest freezer & put in the garage if you have one.
Put all your woolens in a plastic bag & freeze for as long as you are able.
Bedding, blankets. This method should kill the moths & off spring.
Clothes that can take a hot iron, run up & down the seams.
You will have treat your upholstery, etc. give everything a good vacuum. I like the hand held steam cleaner to clean mattresses, headboards & sofas, even rugs.
I had a few carpet beetles & treated as described,,I haven’t seen any this week.

In praise of procrastination-last night I put a couple of items of clothing into my favourite clothing website. Then I left them there till today. When I looked again they’d been reduced in price! So I placed my order.

I sometimes wonder if my procrastinating is due to wondering how to get everything done.
A main part of my problem is allowing friends to completely hijack my day ;
I felt absolutely crazy on Monday and the guilt about not always meeting up with a friend disappeared as two hours came and went without getting my shopping done.

I bought my DBiL, a prize procrastinator, a book called DO IT NOW.
He hasn't got round to reading it yet

I have A Round Tuit.

It doesn't help. It's just one more bit of clutter but woe betide anyone who tries to get rid of it!

There is no translation in Gaelic for the Spanish manāna (tomorrow) - as there is nothing as urgent as that.

Wyllow3 Thu 23-Apr-26 15:47:06

That's one of the reasons in that situation I'd pay for help.

It made me think. I've already done the thing of DS coming to get any childhood stuff in a box when I moved a while back. It made me think - 3 or 4 boxes for children/grandchildren with little notes saying why items had meaning...ditch the rest, but in a satisfactory way, get on with life as it is now?

annifrance Thu 23-Apr-26 15:37:11

Little at a time.
Do the worst first.
Do it with a friend/cleaner. It makes it fun.
Enjoy the afterglow.

Caveat: this is time you will never get back when you could have been doing interesting things.
