Following on from HelterSkelter1excellent thread on art I thought I would put an end to the fantasy and bring us back down to reality!

Sorry.

What is your favourite piece of art in your home?

I will start with mine, a piece we couldn’t really justify when we bought it 25 years ago but I fell in love with it and we lived in a barn conversion with huge walls and there was a big gap!

We have a lot of Welsh art. Here in Wales they have ‘Collector Plan ‘ where you may buy a work of art over a 10 month period.

Several paintings of the Cornish coast by my late mother Barbara. We also have a print of Health of the Bride by Stanhope Forbes. I am reliably informed that the person who sat as the elderly lady at the table was a relative of my ancestors who lived in Mousehole.

Thanks everyone. The splashback was cut to fit the space and we decided to extend the theme throughout the kitchen. We have a very red sink, dark !blue blinds and yellow walls.
Sunglasses are optional!

As I many lovely paintings and I'm envious. Annapops I share your love of Staithes and have found memories of happy days there.

I can see Pen y Fan from my front windows Aldom, I’m a bit further away than your husband was, though.
This is my favourite, it’s an original watercolour of children on the beach at Concarneau.

Many years ago I went to the Harrogate art festival. The paintings were very expensive but I enjoyed looking at them.
I loved sea scapes and my son encouraged me to buy one. I thought they would be far too dear for me but we searched.
I found a beautiful painting the artist created from her living room overlooking the sea in Cornwall. It was still a bit pricey but I bought it. I found out later from the gallery that the artist was in her nineties and was delighted I liked her work.

Caricature of guess who - my lovely d.i.l. had it done as a reminder of our holiday in Spain 😂

crazyH Sun 12-Apr-26 14:57:20

Marmin - that’s one colourful splasback 👌

Does our kitchen splashback count?

Oh, I like that - we have a Mondrian inspired tableware set in our motorhome. I always think it looks cheery.

Love the Mondrian splash back; what a brilliant idea.
My favourite picture in my house is this whimsical watercolour by a local artist. I don’t have it out all the time as watercolours fade but it lives in my wardrobe and cheers up many mornings.

Kittylester: that's by Bob Barker! I have 6 of his prints, and my favourite is War Horse, currently in my dining room.

I love him. We have 2 prints too. The bronze is my favourite though.

Yes the kitchen splashback counts. It "spoke " to me. Did you do it yourselves?
Also I particularly liked the dementia ladies art!🙂

We inherited this from my parent’s home, it’s actually appliqué, I know nothing of the history. It brings back memories.

The Brecons is a lovely area, Aldom. I love this painting we have, of the Black Mountains.

Aldom Sun 12-Apr-26 13:29:36

For sentimental reasons I've chosen
Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons.
This was the view from my husband's bedroom window when he was a boy.
The picture was painted for him about 30 years ago, by a family member.

Aveline Sun 12-Apr-26 13:15:49

It's by Henry Kondraki

Aveline Sun 12-Apr-26 13:15:29

It's hard to choose which of our paintings is my favourite as it can vary from day to day. I do like this one of an atmospheric rainy late afternoon in Edinburgh.

Annapops Sun 12-Apr-26 12:30:36

My DH paints so we have various scenes dotted around the house. This one is Staithes harbour in N Yorks. I've always loved this place since first visiting as a very young girl. I have since fulfilled one of my dreams having stayed in one of the lovely little cottages overnight and walking down to the beach under a dark sky with crashing waves below. Magical.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 12-Apr-26 12:22:27

I can’t pick a favourite. My house is filled with pictures and there is a box of a dozen more under the stairs. My brother in law is an artist and I have a few of his. I go to the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy every year and usually buy one or two prints. We often go to Oxford Art weeks studios and sometimes buy a print. There is a small village nearby which has an Arts Festival every other year. I bought two items last year, including a tiny original oil. Where do I put everything? Most of the rooms are full of pictures - some are there permanently but others are swapped around. I don’t have a favourite but there are a handful I couldn’t do without.

I have a painting by a local artist, who I know, of a part of our beach looking towards the cranes that helped unload coal for local our Steelworks from the ships, I love the cranes they always looked like huge giraffes and can be seen from many parts of the town, unfortunately they are being dismantled as steel making industry is changing, but I will always have my painting.
My DH isn't a fan but everyone who visits comments on it.

kittylester Sun 12-Apr-26 12:17:28

This is another favourite of mine. It was painted by a lovely, gentle lady who was living with dementia. She sold her paintings for donation to an Alzheimer's charity.
