I had a good catchup with friend yesterday when we got back in car temp was 30c ,it's been a lovely day again today we had a walk this morning and a lazy afternoon.
Chinese takeaway for tea.
Hope one's with hay fever feel better soon, mine was bad last week not bad at the moment.
I hope everyone gets to enjoy some 🌞

Grandmabatty Sat 25-Apr-26 18:55:25

Brook I'm sorry to hear about your hay fever woes. My entire family, including dgs1, suffer from it too. I have no idea why I've been spared.
Today I stripped the bed, washed, dried and ironed it all and remade it. I washed the bathroom floor, cleaned the bathroom and the kitchen, polished and hoovered throughout. Tesco delivered this afternoon. The delivery driver is the nicest man. He's Portuguese and speaks English really well. As it transpires, he also delivers to my dd and to her in-laws! So today has been productive. I've rested my blooming feet too. I've just had chicken and chips and I'm feeling full while watching Murder on the Orient Express. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday kitchen folk

Good news from your MOT FGT2.

We’ve had a few days of warm sunshine, been getting out as much as possible. Hope it continues 😊

Jaxjacky Sat 25-Apr-26 19:36:19

Hi all, another sunny day and I’ve done little - Grandmabatty puts me to shame!
My son called in this morning, his hay fever is bad this year too, he borrowed our strimmer.
We’ve just watched my football team lose their FA semi final whilst eating pasta.
Have a good evening.
👋👋 quiet corner.

Hi everyone, good to see Gransnet back again, I was definitely suffering from withdrawal symptoms this morning!
A beautiful day here again, and much warmer this afternoon, with very little breeze.
DD2 came over this afternoon and spent an hour and a half gardening for me. She enjoyed playing with my new weed pulling tool! Still lots to do, but more manageable for me now, I did an hour out there with her.
A high pollen count here, so I was coughing, and my DD had itchy eyes and a sniffly nose.
I took her back to our new station, to get a train one stop down the line, so she could collect the 8 year old from a party. Her OH had taken littlest to another birthday party.

I hope those who are suffering in any way find some relief over night.
Thinking of those in the quiet corner.

Enjoy the rest of Saturday folks.

Hello kitchen people,

We have a pigeon nesting in our orange blossom. The nest looks too small. Milo and Ripley are going to have a field day.

I made a batch of rich chocolate muffins today. A family favourite. I also made a new recipe - chocolate and coffee cake (three layers) filled with chocolate frosting.

Here’s that pigeon:

I thought I would just pop by as I have had a lovely couple of hours pottering in the garden from 5.30 till 7.30. Sun almost setting so not dazzling my cataracty eyes and the temperature felt like a summer evening.

I gave all the pots a good water as they were a bit thirsty. And I started a tidy up of a 3 foot by 2 foot bed and will crack on with that tomorrow morning early before it gets too sunny. If I can do 2 hours every evening and an hour every morning I should make good headway.but I need to keep to a plan otherwise I get side tracked so easily.
Have a lovely Saturday evening all.

Castle25 Sun 26-Apr-26 02:47:07

I haven’t posted anything for a while but I joined to participate and not just lurk. Will try harder. Yesterday was my birthday I had a lovely day DGD came round with her mum and dad and we played in the garden for a while. Went out in the evening to a local steak restaurant with DH and had a lovely meal and a few glasses of vino. Can’t sleep now but will eventually. Thinking of all who are struggling

Yiayia4 Sun 26-Apr-26 15:37:06

Good afternoon Kitcheners. Not been keeping up but think about you all.
We have had a gruelling few weeks but beginning to settle a little now.DH seems quite stable at the moment.🤞He’s been very low so trying to have things to look forward to help.Big day tomorrow he’s going to be tested to see if he can get rid of the catheter, it’s been over 18months and he will be so pleased if he can throw it away.😀

No cooking today we are going to DS1 for dinner.Tomorrow evening we will be watching Football GS play his last under 18 match,he will then be taking his A levels in May.His plan is to take a year out to concentrate on his football so exciting times. We are going to Derbyshire on Thursday for the weekend to DS2 and Spiros will be going to a 5 star cat hotel (hope he likes it.)

Have a good Sunday everyone will try and catch up with all your news.x

GrannyGravy13 Sun 26-Apr-26 16:58:22

The chicken is in the oven, veggies are prepared.

I got some bits for DD’s birthday and picked up a cake from M & S (Connie the Caterpillar) it’s more for her boys, who love a cake and candles,

I have a busy week ahead, so I am going to be lazing this evening 🙋‍♀️

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Apr-26 17:20:24

Happy Birthday for yesterday Castle 🥳🎂🥂
Fingers crossed Yia I hope it’s 👋 catheter.
My daughter and granddaughter came in, Imogen is A levels too Yia and fretting.
Curry in the slow cooker, enjoy your evening all.

Redcar Sun 26-Apr-26 17:53:22

I hope your DH is able to dispense with the catheter yiayia.

Good luck to all those DGC taking GCSEs and A levels in the next few months. I hope they all do well and are able to pursue their chosen careers.

DD1 and family came over at lunchtime, bringing MacDonalds again. DD1 put some bags of bedding away in the back bedroom for me. My son in law spent some time brushing weeds out of the paved drive. It looks good, now needs to have sand brushed between the pavers.
I took the electric blanket off my bed and packed it away for the summer. Changed the bedclothes and washed and dried them.

Have a pleasant evening everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 26-Apr-26 18:13:50

Evening everyone. I’ve just eaten.

I went to see my stepfather (almost 94) this afternoon. He was sad because his 100 year old brother died a few days ago. I was sad for him and then sad for me. Two family deaths in two months.

Earlier I had come across this that I had squirrelled away in our wardrobe. A memory, a keepsake. That particular Christmas we had decided to cut back and not give one another a present….. on Christmas morning he gave me this bag.

His humour, as always, made me laugh.
Today?
I just filled up.

Grannydaisy1 Sun 26-Apr-26 21:43:02

fgt hugs to you

brook2704 Sun 26-Apr-26 21:44:31

A belated Happy Birthday for yesterday Castle, sounds like you had a lovely day
It’s been a bit cloudier here today but still warm. DD2 called round with the DGC this afternoon, it was lovely to see them and catch up on their news. Then someone messaged about some dining chairs that I’d been trying to sell for ages, they came round and bought them straight away - result!
Hoping for good news for your DH tomorrow Yia
I’ll add my best wishes to all the DGC taking exams soon, stressful times but hoping they all manage ok
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 27-Apr-26 08:46:04

Yia I hope your husband is given the good news that he can have his catheter removed today 🤞you will both be anxious about the appointment I expect. x

brook2704 Mon 27-Apr-26 15:42:53

Hi kitchen pals, it’s a bit showery here today but lovely and warm. We’ve done a bit of gardening and also had a short walk along one of the local beaches. It wasn’t windy for a change which was lovely. We sat on the bench in the picture and enjoyed a takeaway coffee and the view 😎 When we got home we found workmen outside from Openreach, apparently they’re installing a faster fibre network so at last we’ll be able to join everyone else in the the 21st century soon 🤣
I hope everyone is doing ok today, especially those sitting in the quiet corner. I’m especially hoping MrSoop is doing ok
Fgt a lovely keepsake, hoping your stepfather is doing ok too ❤️
Take care all x

Usedtobeblonde Mon 27-Apr-26 16:53:19

I really don’t like asking this very sensitive question but has there been a funeral for soop?
No one has said much since we heard the sad news.
I ask because I do like to sit quietly and think about people when I know their funeral is being held.
I know I can do it anytime but it concentrates the mind when it is a specific time and the family and friends are gathered, I feel my thoughts are mingling with theirs.

cornergran Mon 27-Apr-26 17:03:41

I’ve had the same wonder for the same reason utbb. Thank you for asking.

Grandmabatty Mon 27-Apr-26 17:46:32

I was thinking that very thing just yesterday Utbb. I hope someone can let us know.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 27-Apr-26 18:11:35

Himself was definitely one in a million Fgt2 💙

Aldom Mon 27-Apr-26 19:04:29

UTBB I'm another who was also wondering when dear Soop's funeral is. I've not been around much recently as I've been having a lot of work done at my new home. I thought perhaps I'd missed news of a funeral.
Thinking of Soop's family. flowers

Blossoming Mon 27-Apr-26 19:08:21

Good evening kitchen pals, hope everyone is ok 🌹

Redcar Mon 27-Apr-26 19:34:42

Hello everyone. A warm sunny day here and I’ve done some more gardening. Now raining, and I didn’t even have to wash the car to make it rain! Hope we get more showers overnight, the ground is very dry.

I hope that someone can let us know when dear soop’s funeral is (or was).

Fingers crossed that yiayia’s DH has had a good hospital visit today.

Thinking of all those resting in the quiet corner.

Have a pleasant evening folks.

Grannmarie Mon 27-Apr-26 19:43:45

Good evening, lovely Kitchen people.

Sincere condolences, FGT, to you and your step father on the sad loss of his brother. May he rest in peace.

Belated birthday wishes 🎉💝 to Ladyleftfieldlover and Castle, sounds like you both had lovely celebrations.

Ladyleftfieldlover, our Book Group read Project Hail Mary last year, it was reviewed and scored very well. An intriguing storyline, sounds like it transferred well to the big screen.

Sorry to hear about your hay fever, brook, hope you can get more effective medication. Thanks for the photo, what a beautiful view, perfect place to sit and relax.

Grandmabatty, you are a powerhouse of energy, I wish you could bottle it and sell me some! I am so tired these days, afternoon naps have become routine. I hope your feet are behaving.

Hello 👋 YiaYia, good to hear from you. I'm glad things are settling a bit for you and DH, I hope the catheter removal was successful today.

Jaxjacky, sounds like you're making good progress, hoping you'll be back to your Monday quiz nights soon.🤞

Redcar, I like the sound of your weed pulling tool! You're getting a lot done in your garden. I've discovered that the grabber mijig that I got last year for my shoulder problems is quite good at removing the odd weed on the patio.👍

Usedtobeblonde, I've been wondering about Soop's arrangements recently, thank you for asking. Thinking of MrSoop, Baggs and all who loved her. 🕯️❤️

I had a good catch up with my oldest friend ( from primary school days), we met up for afternoon tea at a nearby hotel and put the world to rights. She hasn't had the best of health lately so it was good to see her out and about and driving again. Then I came home and fell asleep again! 😴

Wishing everyone a peaceful evening and a good night's sleep. I'm having fish fingers with pitta bread and salad, setting down for my TV 📺 quizzes. Wasn't Who wants to be a Millionaire amazing last night? That gent has incredible knowledge!
