Good morning Mick and all GN's on a very chilly Boxing Day, from Co Durham. I have been awake and up since 5ish, but am only now getting back to any sort of routine. Read all the posts and it sounds as though most people have had a good christmas with family and friends.
I had a lovely day being the guest and so not responsible for cooking the dinner or anything else much. For sone reason, which I could not fathom out, I kept getting a rather dizzy spell, where the room seemed to swirl around and I had to hold onto something to reassure myself that I was not actually spinning myself. I have had this sort of feeling only rarely with a sort of migraine, which had been rather horrible , but on this occasion no pain, just the rather weird feeling and no, not due at all to much alcohol! I was happy to listen to radio 3 quietly and as I was as usual quite creaky took a while to get up and dressed etc.
I rang my son and family and sadly for him, he was still coping with awful toothache, which of course was taking the shine off the day, but other than that they were all ok and going to Louise s family for dinner etc. So we took our time getting up and sorted, and then had a splendid christmas dinner of roast lamb with roast potatoes, parsnips, and onions and lots of lovely vegetables with it. The lamb was melt in the mouth and much enjoyed, especially as on your own you do not cook a big enough piece for it to be so good. We had some lovely wine with it, but have left the christmas pudding for today. What a difference from my childhood. I remember my mother getting anxious if the sermon went on too long on christmas morning as the pudding would have been left in the copper and she hoped that it would not have boiled dry! These days with microwaves you can wait until the last minute to decide if you want any. That used to be our only taste of alcohol as a child, which was as much brandy butter as we would be allowed to put on the pudding!
So we chatted and enjoyed watching Shaun the Sheep, and listening to much lovely music on radio 3, and in the evening we watched Call the Midwife, which with its rather unlikely dash off abroad by many of the nuns allowed a 2 place situation to be shown, but just the sort of thing to watch with very little critical eye. We had a very nice day, no problems, - apart from the minor bit of me feeling dizzy - the food was lovely and no arguments. Ah a christmas day to remember. (I always wonder why there are so many war films etc on christmas day, do the words peace to all men mean nothing or cant they find enough worth putting on that isnt just mawkish slosh or people being killed Enough of that on the news. )
Today we are just taking things gently, I shall not be dashing off to buy a few emeralds and rubies and tvs and computors in the sales, so I shall not be fighting my way to any town or city either today or tomorrow. I will be thinking about going home, catching up on what didnt get done before christmas and then starting to look around to decide what and how to move things to make life a bit easier. Today I need to start using my new little buggy and learning how to get it in and out of the car and set it up properly and become proficient at it and to begin to trust it to take me where I want to go.
Sounds as though most of us had a decent day. I like the idea of the champagne in the chalice GrandMattie, over the years I have taken communion in various places and with various offerings , from a rather severe branch of methodism which had probably ribena or something but nothing alcoholic to having wine brought by the priest from the Lebanon to Damascus and words spoken in Aramaic and allsorts in between. GrannyIvy, dont you find that you look back and think how you managed to conjure up a meal from scratch for surprise visitors and family , at very little metal cost , yet now it is a major effort and can be a worry? Partly because my son lives quite a way away from me now, I find myself doing a lot of casseroles, so that they will be ok whatever time they arrive and I can prepare it early, and then not get so worried about if I have remembered everything. Bellasnana glad you had a good day and it certainly sounds a lot warmer than here, could do with some sunshine definitely. Karmalady glad that your drive went off well and that like your chosen name you are now indeed calmer and can enjoy getting back to normal .Jaxjacky, glad that you have been able to enjoy christmas day and are on the mend day by day.
Wishing everyone another good day, and it will be probably more relaxing when the christmas meals and events have all been navigated well, so enjoy your days well earned rest today.
