Generally I just nod, mostly not worth expressing a different opinion with a know it all, just prolongs the situation.

When on the receiving end of a lecture my stock response is ‘that’s an interesting viewpoint’ while thinking - if wrong!

Mmm was my go-to response, but I like indeed implies more gravitas.

I have noticed this before in life.

Someone who pntificates against something, changes their mind, and then they have a need to be a "leader" in the opposite direction.

Yes I use ‘indeed’ in the same way Claremont.

Personally, I use 'indeed' in a totally different way, to say I approve of the comment made.

In the above case I'd probably, hmmm interesting!

I have been a nod, agree smile person for most of my life. I do have one friend who likes to give her opinion on things but she can be such a Debbie Downer. This affects my mood so I am slowly coming round to challenging her on things she says.
