Which COUNTY/region would you live in, if not your own

Gogo84 Shrewsbury is my home town and I love this beautiful county BUT no sea! I'd like to live in Devon, also the county of my forebears on the maternal side.

I would like to live in one of the lovely Cotswolds villages but wouldn’t want to move so far from my DD, SIL and GD.

Boscombe Bournemouth happiest time of my childhood living there with my mum.

For me it would have to be the East Nuek in Fife. I used to say years ago once my children had left home I’d move to Ely in Fife, but once my grandchild arrived we couldn’t move as our DS needed help with childcare after his relationship broke up, when his daughter was 6 months old. Now we have another grandchild and we still help out with childcare I don’t think I could leave them behind. We’re an extremely close family, and 3 of our 4 children live locally and the 4th only a 15 minute drive away, it would be too hard.

I loved the dry climate of East Anglia when I lived there. Now I’m back on the Hampshire coast my joints are complaining. I’d forgotten how wet and windy it can be.

Back to S Wales to the lovely vale of Glamorgan where I spent 40 years of my life.

There is a chance that I might get back there, if DD2 decides they will one day move from Wiltshire back to her country of birth. DD1 and DD2 will both be close to each other then and that will be my cue to also move

My first choice would be to return to the north of England, somewhere near to where I was born, ie in or around Darlington in Co Durham. There's shops there and all other modern facilities as well as train transport ( I don't drive) to get me to other areas of the country.

Second choice would be to the Dorset or Devon coasts, where I've enjoyed many holidays over the years although the further west i go the longer a journey would bve if I were to visit anywhere else.

So it looks like it'd be the north of England for me - Herriott country here I come !

Interesting replies! so many beautiful places mentioned here, sometimes it's hard to pinpoint just one. I do like to transpose myself sometimes in my mind's eye to living in other parts of Britain it's the Escape to the Country effect that sends me off into these realms of fantasy.

Actually I love my own too Norah, I was knocked out on Escape to the Country last week when Alistair Appleton showed the viewers around his very quirky off grid house that had amazing views over the Seven Sisters. Sussex beaches are a bit too stony for my liking though, with the exception of West Wittering. I like a sandy beach, In that respect I've enjoyed lovely walks on stunning beaches in Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Wales and Holkham in Norfolk, Bamburgh, Northumberland another wow! but a bit chilly.

I like your choice of South Devon, by the beaches😃only been once but what a great part of the country to live if I had the choice.
I saw the ETTC programme with Alistair Appleton’s off grid house by the sea, stunning.I was a bit cast down tho, finding that he’s gay as if it didn’t work out with DP I had earmarked Alistair for my next great romance 🥰😲🤭

I moved to Devon 2 years ago. Lovely to be back by the sea after 5 years in the wilderness of south Cotswolds, after 40 years in coastal Scotland, but I don’t like it and haven’t settled. Too big, too noisy, too many people and most don’t talk as they do in villages. I’ve only met one neighbour, the rest look at me with surprise as if I’m something the cat brought in 🤪. But, I’m close to DD3 who has been wonderful since my BIG op last year, and there’s no family left in Sussex so, unless a miracle happens, it looks as if I’m here to stay.

So many beautiful places to choose from. I love Yorkshire. Then again Northumbria is stunning. The Scottish borders and the beautiful town of Kelso is undoubtedly in the running. But this morning as I drove along the coastal road to work and watched three yachts sailing out of Kirkcudbright along the River Dee I thought this truly is perfection!

I have family and friends all over the country and have sometimes wondered if I could see myself living there. Some places l definitely could - others not so much, even though I enjoy visiting. One place that springs to mind is Devon, where some of my friends live. It is a beautiful county and we have had many lovely holidays down there but it is very remote and far from everywhere else - although not as much as Cornwall - and the congestion in the summer is very high. Now to where l would live if I didn't live in the beautiful place I now live in. First choice, in a heartbeat, would be my childhood county of Norfolk. I think other places l would like would be Derbyshire, the Peak District, the Malvern Hills of Worcestershire, Cumbria or North Yorkshire.

I was born in London and I would love to live there again but I couldn't even afford a garage if I wanted to return to live anywhere near where I was brought up.

I loved the London buzz and like you no chance. But I would love to return to Swansea which has a buzz of its own, and so friendly with all of the scenery and beaches on my doorstep. Not forgetting Joe's ice cream

I have always lived in Cornwall, and I don't think I would move, but other places I like are Devon, South Yorkshire, South Wales and London.

I would go back to Cornwall, where I lived for 25 years, but I'm to involved with my family now.

Anglesey or Northumberland as both so beautiful with fantastic coastlines. I would have e moved years back apart from my husbands reluctance. Great regret.

Anywhere in Hereford, it’s a lovely county. East Sussex and Suffolk too. But that’s just fantasy. I need to live where I do because of the many facilities I now need and the easy journey into London for whatever reason.

Moved from Essex, by the sea, a couple of years ago to be nearer to my DS & DDiL for health reasons! Would move back if I could take my family back with me! Would upset the GC because they are settled well at school. My DDiL could get a Vet Nurse job easily & my DS can turn his hand to a few things. So would be off there if not for my lovely GC. Always come first till they are grown more!

When my grandchildren were small, my husband and I had the opportunity to move from Kent to Pembrokeshire where I desperately wanted to live. I had spent all my childhood holidays there with my Grandparents and adored it. However, when push came to shove, we just couldn’t leave our young grandchildren, so we stayed here. The plan then was to move to Wales once they were older and at school. Fail! We still couldn’t do it.
They are grown now with children of their own, added to which, I now have a great-grandchild. (My husband died five years ago, sadly), and I am going nowhere! But I love them so much, it really doesn’t matter!

I moved to Devon aged 21 and was a furriner until I married a Devon boy, I was accepted then and in fact lots of other furriners were moving there too. I didn't want to leave, would have gone back were it not for family near where we are now, which is lovely, but not near the coast.
