I think many of the celebrities invited to the wedding were,

a) to cover up the fact Meghan had so few family members to invite and

b) even back then, Meg had her eye on the future, and she felt having the Clooneys, Oprah, Serena etc as ‘mates’ would be useful contacts.

Yes, H is very much out of his depth but he doesn't realise it, which is what I mean about the deference that came with his position in England. Doesn't count for much in America apart from Trump, and in a previous life Meghan scuppered that.

The world Harry was part of has moved on, and I doubt he would slot back in easily should he return. He has betrayed too many people.

You're right eazybee, that in America Harry is surrounded by people who have far far more money than he can ever dream of. A lot of it is new money too, and not inherited wealth like his. For example, Harry and Meghan aspired to be friends with the Clooneys, worth £430 million, whereas Harry's pal, currently in the news, Ben Goldsmith is "only" worth £30 million.
I think the obsence wealth over in Hollywood might be inciting H & M to grab every penny they can from anywhere in order to keep up with the glitterati. Let's face it, Harry is out of his depth.

I agree that Harry probably does miss England, but even there, he’s unlikely to have the deference he regards as his birthright because of his own actions, and his choice not to be a working royal.

He is not entitled to deference because of his birthright nowadays but perhaps he doesn't realise that. We're not 'forelock tugging peasants' any more (even though anyone who respects the work that some members of the Royal Family do has been accused of that 😃).

Even at forty Harry is till behaving as the spoilt child he was, fighting his father and step-mother on behalf of his mother, who also hated her stepmother.
Meghan is living the life she intends to become accustomed to, but for Harry it is something of a downgrade. Not a palace, lacking prestige, surrounded by people with considerably more money, plenty of mod cons but without the deference he regards as his birthright. Also, he has to pay for it out of his own pocket.
He has inherited a great deal of money no doubt soundly invested, but they both spend excessive amounts on court cases and jam factories while not generating the income they expected.
And I think he misses England.

I think so - he came over to attend Robert Fellowes' funeral last year (husband of one of his Spencer aunts) and Diana's other sister Sarah McCorquodale (also one Charles' ex girlfriends) was sitting alongside the King and Queen in the royal box at Monday's VE Day celebrations.

I think there will always be some kind of link between the Windsors and the Spencers - the aristocracy seem to live their lives within an almost "incestuous" bubble!

I akways understood that Wallis Simpson did want to be Queen, but like her husband wanting the high comfortable life rather thandoing the job.

I believe Wallis Simpson wanted the life of a socialite in cafe society, which is what she got; I don't think the Duke of Windsor ever wanted to be King; too much like hard work.

I think they were relatively happy, except that Edward expected all the deference due to him as Prince of Wales, then King, to continue and was shocked and extremely petulant when the trappings of royalty were removed.
Just like Harry.
But unlike Harry and Meghan, they did not air their grievances in public, nor extort money from them.

They turned into an embarrassment for the RF at the time tho and were on friendly terms with Germany and it’s leaders.
