From a survivors network well worth a read:
"Survivors Are Not Political Pawns
Survivors Deserve Support, Not Political Agendas"
"Last week, social media was ablaze with prominent and influential men embroiling themselves in UK politics. Tommy Robinson, Elon Musk, and misogynist poster boy Andrew Tate —figures notorious for their harmful rhetoric and behaviour—took to social platforms to criticise the UK Labour government’s handling of child grooming gangs in Oldham.
To the untrained eye, it may seem like these individuals are advocating for survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA). However, their sudden interest in the topic feels convenient as well as disingenuous and hypocritical, to say the least. All three have faced accusations of promoting harmful ideologies and/or engaging in abusive behaviour that runs counter to the values of justice, accountability, and survivor support needed to advocate for survivors of sexual violence. Their involvement reeks of opportunism, using the pain of survivors to score political points and bolster their influence in right-wing circles."

Tommy Robinson Conservative Woman
(161 Posts)Whatever your thoughts on Tommy Robinson this article by Lizzie Webb in the Conservative Woman makes interesting reading.

The article in the O/P says,
"It is ironic that it is Robinson who, more than anyone else, has consistently investigated and championed these ignored girls".
This is rubbish. The brave men and women who actually fought on the ground to make sure the issues were brought to light and continued to do so consistently who made the difference, who made it happen. One such was honoured on a thread on GB news in GN (collecting money). Looked at the racism issue full on as did many. I've just googled a whole number of reports on those who were involved and
Tommy Robinson doesnt get a mention. Words not actions are easy.
He's jumped into the issue for political reasons backed by Musk (who has more political reasons).
Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is a violent, tax evading football hooligan, bail-breaching, head butting, common assault inflicting, racist, conspiracy theory promoting, Putin supporting, Russian money seeking, passport faking, Covid rule breaking, convicted fraudster, journalist stalking supporter of people who post Gas The Jews videos.
Farage called him a thug.
Do you really want more people like him Kandinsky?
RosieandherMaw
An interesting thread title.
I wondered if he’d transitioned 🤔🤔🤔
Me too RosieandherMaw,
I was partially dumbstruck thinking about what he would look like as a Ladeee! 😚
We need more people like Tommy Robinson, people not afraid to speak out about issues that many turn a blind eye to for fear of being called racist.

I am not surprised that various people such as Tommy Robinson have a platform on this issue. Any attempt to discuss it is shut down. I talk about the problems within the Catholic Church with regard to safeguarding, when I do that no one goes 'but what about the Methodists that commit abuse'. It is fine to talk about abuse by catholic priests, it is fine to talk about abuse by Asian grooming gangs, it is fine to talk about the specific risk from step parents. They all are specific problems with regard to safeguarding. I couldn't care less who gets upset about those conversations.
I completely agree, abuse, wherever and however it happens should be highlighted, investigated and prevented, or at least stopped!

All Stephen is doing is profiteering from all this. He doesn't care about anything to do with it all.
we need to listen and be influenced by reliable and credible sources
Yes!

I lack enthusiasm for Mr Musk to involve himself, at any level, in the politics of Britain. I do not wish any of his activities in the USA to be celebrated and I fear that his family background of rich, entitled white South Africans colours his judgment.
If the publication cited praises him, then....enough said, for me.
Me too!
No Monica it is about safeguarding, and I am afraid the progressives frequently fail in regard to safeguarding as they get lost in the be kind mentality. There was a specific problem in the Catholic Church, there may well be specific problems in other churches that have yet to be fully uncovered. Power, a largely male environment, heirachy, etc etc rarely provide an environment where safeguarding children goes well. There was/is a specific pattern of behaviour amongst some communities in certain towns, in the way there is a certain pattern of behaviour amongst online predators. (Generally white loners, middle aged men) We should talk openly about them all. If there is a focus on grooming gangs at the moment it is because those victims were ignored for years, as were the victims of Catholic priests, etc.

I am a catholic and for some years our parish priest was a CofE priest who had, so to speak, changed sides.
I was talking to him about a cluster of cases, some physical abuse, not sexual, that drove me from the church for several years. He said to me that the extent of abuse within the CofE was far greater than in the catholic church.
As with the attention paid to sexual abuse involving Muslims, we must remember this countries long history of fear and contempt for the foreigner and their foreign religion. Before the current wave of immigration the fear and loathing was for the Irish, who emigrated to Britain, probably in millions from the 1840s onwards, and their Roman catholicism. I can remember it from my childhood. I come from an Irish army family and I can remember the doubt placed on the loyalty of soldiers of Irish heritage, despite them providing a disproportionately large proportion of the army since the late 18th century.
There is no argument that child abuse is a problem throughout society, but this concentration on particular sectors where the origins and religions are seen as alien both demonises certain sectors of society, and allows 'mainstream' society, to see it having nothing to do with them, but see it as an aberration brought in by outsiders and perpetrated by them.

And people are now going to call me far right as I seem to be on first name terms with him.
I know where he lives
Yes of course definitely talk and dont deflect,
The specifics on this thread were the lauding of Tommy Robinson as a "hero" in this context and the involvement of Musk and others in this particular "magazine".
And people are now going to call me far right as I seem to be on first name terms with him.
You are going to have to hang on in there Jane, it's still three weeks away but on the plus side next term is very short 🙂.
I don't think Stephen is equipped to walk in a straight line let alone have this conversation.
We should all eat chocolate ❤️
I think we’d all be happier and much more peaceful

Or maybe that is what you are trying to say 😂 I’m exhausted. It’s Easter soon
😂
Can I eat chocolate then?
Please?

Whilst I agree with you galaxy Stephen isn’t really equipped to teach or deal with those problems

Tommy Robinson is a violent man, I don't tend to like violent men, especially those who assault women, I have I hope a fairly consistent approach to those men. I would hope my approach to predatory men such as the grooming gangs is as consistent. There are specific problems and we need to talk about them, it is very dangerous to children to create a sacred caste of people whose behaviour isn't talked about. It is fir example partly what enabled the catholics priests.
I agree.
Couldn't agree with you more.

Ah, I didn't realise you meant on GN specifically.
Tommy Robinson has put himself on a platform on this subject, but his is far from the only one.
Well the BBC has experienced numerous issues with safeguarding, and a seemingly inability as an organisation to challenge predatory behaviour in numerous cases. It also seems to have a problem with challenging inappropriate behaviour from men generally. On other issues it has just had to pull a documentary because of its links to a terrorist group.
I just get a little tired of every publication from the mail to the telegraph being mocked when the 'progressive' sources have serious problems.
Yes, do!
