Valentine’s’ theme at Playgroup!

Our now AC had Valentine’s Day themed arts and crafts in nursery/pre school (state and private).

Our GC the same including the two youngest who are currently in reception class.

It’s not as if they will be unaware, the shops have been full of Valentine’s promotional tatt goods immediately Christmas was over.

One little girl I looked after years ago used to scribble all over her arms in biro, given half a chance.

I think I could get a lot of mileage out of a themed Valentine's Day for little kids - Art, Singing, biscuit making etc. They don't need to understand the origins of the day, just to have fun with sensory activities. ❤️

I worked in nurseries and playgroup over 25 years ago, we always had this as a theme. We made cards to send home, talked about the colours pink and red, made buns/cakes/biscuits

I think it’s harmless. My 3 year old DGS2 has already made a Valentine card for his Mummy at Nursery. It gives the little ones a craft/making task, no different from the Easter, Mothers/Fathers Day, or Christmas cards they make and bring home.

DGS1 (7) has a Valentine Ball for an hour after school - the £2 a ticket is going towards school funds.

I think a lot of stuff that's pushed at kids now isn't particularly appropriate. My personal list:
Make-up for little girls
Pink, pink and more pink for little girls
Provocative clothing for girls under the age of consent
Piercings/tattoos for any child under the age of consent
Hints at romance (eg, Valentine's Day) for pre-teens
Hallowe'en without telling them exactly what they're celebrating
And so forth... Children are not "small people"! We're supposed to be the adults, for crying out loud!
