Raising a glass to Giselle Pelicot

If this real life shocker had been a tv series am guessing we would all have said it was ridiculously far fetched and switched off.A case of life being stranger than fiction.
It must have been hard for her to have it play out in the court but also something that just had to be done, so bravo Giselle🍷

I admire her but am sure her reason to go public was not to stand up for women. Surely it was revenge against her bastard of a husband.

Her husband's abuse was going to be fully exposed even if she kept her anonymity. She waived that to show that none of the shame was hers, she was an innocent victim. It also served to see the victim for who she was, not just a concept within the judicial process. She was seen, filmed, photographed as a living person who had suffered unspeakable abuse and survived.

I hope her bravery results in immediate and positive changes in the way women report rape, the way it is dealt with and in the minds of those male perpetrators.

Well done for your post madcatwoman . As women we most certainly should honour each other. As you say lots of good men about but as we know there are lots of men out there that have no respect for women, feel they are superior, completely disregard the female gender and think they are entitled to own a woman's body - gone on throughout history and I hope that those who have accepted those views are at last beginning to question their thoughts .........

I wonder what the future holds for Madame Pelicot. I can't imagine she will want another relationship.

I just hope that she finds peace and some sort of contentment after all she has been through. I hope the admiration and respect she has been shown help her through.

I hope the entire family can find someway forward, and heal. Caroline Dorian, Gisele's daughter, has written a book, there's suggestions if a reason for between her and her mother. So many unanswered questions but Pelicot's DNA was found in a murder scene in Paris. Whether he will appeal his sentence isn't confirmed yet. Certainly raise a glass, but it's not the last we hear of him.

Had she gone to a Police station and told staff she thought she was being raped and drugged I would be very surprised if any Police officer would have taken her seriously.

The world now knows that men are capable of such heinous crimes and the unbelievable has become believable.

Her life will never be the same again but she has left a legacy to women all over the world.

Awful to think her abuse was only discovered because he was caught 'upskirting' in a supermarket. She has shown such courage and determination throughout the trial, I hope she can now come to a peace within herself. The physical abuse is over but the mental scars will be there forever.

I was thinking about an aspect of this the other day, and decided I hated him even more. Sleep is a place where you are completely vulnerable. You should not feel unsafe to fall asleep. It is unbearable what she has experienced.
