Over-Familiar Emails From The Bank!

Companies really ought to ask people how they wish to be addressed, not presume.

I've recently had correspondence with an Estate Agent
in England and was appalled at them using my
Christian name and over friendliness , it came
across as so unprofessional and childish.
I asked them to change their ways and they did but
it made me feel as if I was in the wrong.

My mother, who was a strong feminist, didn't like being addressed by her first name by doctors etc. I never pointed out to her that if she was called Mrs D - her preferred form, it was her husband's name and if she wanted Miss B, it was her father's. Neither was her "own" name which our first name is!

I have no objection to being called by first name by anyone- when I was teaching (3rd level college), I was always called by my first name by students, even though I could claim the title Dr.

Mine are always addressed Dear Dr Name. I find it depends which title you use when you register for a service.

In my online shops I usually address my US customers by their first name but then Americans tend to do this. I sign myself by my first name. Its a different kind of relationahip because they are interacting directly with me as an individual.

I had a similar one and I’m not bothered, my account is in the name of Jax Jacky, no Miss/Mrs or otherwise.
I’ve welcomed informal contact from my bank and other establishments I deal with and the gradual reduction of formality from a bygone age.

We’re all different.

My bank do the same. I like it.

Santander always address me by my name I’ve been with them many years and I don’t mind at all. In fact I find it just being friendly with a company I’ve been with ages.
