You could sleep on it,, under a sheet. Then have a light duvet on top.. I find I keep really warm in an unheated bedroom in the winter by doing this..
I have just bought a heavyweight wool duvet for underneath the sheet.
Our top duvet is only 10.5 tog. The whole bed is warm and you don't feel like you are being pinned down by a heavy duvet. We have a king sized bed and king sized duvet. I can't image a double duvet. I would be uncovered for most of the night!
I bought the wool duvet instead of a mattress topper. Plus I prefer natural fibres to man made.
