The 'famous' bed side manner, NOT!

I find it more insulting to refer to an adult as a girl or, even worse, a little girl. As in "The girl who does my hair" or "The little girl who does my cleaning". Needless to say it is a very long time since anyone called me a girl or even an old girl.

I don’t blame you - I hate that word - I always say ‘the lady next door’ or ‘the lady in the shop’ etc etc

Is the 'bedside' manner a thing of the past? I paid privately recently to see a doctor at a clinc about a condition I have and found him to be very abrupt referring to me as 'this woman' as opposed to 'this lady'. I will of course say nothing as he was very accurate in his treatment, which could not be faulted. But, and this is a very big 'but', it would have been nice to have been treated personably. When my dear late mother had serious dementia the doctor always referred to her as a 'lady'. Dear, dear me, I am getting very dusty, musty, and fusty in my dotage!
