There are some really sick people around .....

Our car had a krooklock fitted when it was stolen, only hindered them for a few seconds more. it was obvious it had been cut through with bolt cutters. On another occasion the car was stolen purely for the four brand new tyres, car was abandoned in a quarry minus the wheels.
Why don't car thieves use their vast knowledge of mechanics to work in the business and earn an honest living ?

On stealing cars, I suggest using a krooklock. This one is great and one end is supposed to help knock out back window if you fall in a river.

Crook lock will deter the casual thief, so is good for lower value cars. The professional will cut it off easily, if they want a high value car they will steal it for sure, that’s why insurance cost is so high.
A Wealthy neighbour had a lot of building work done and a new alarm system, one evening they went out to dinner.
When they got back, the alarm had been disabled, the safe opened, 2 Porsche and a Mercedes stolen, thieves had inside information from a building worker and had been watching the house for days.
Nobody ever got caught.

Car crime has always been rife in our area, we had our car stolen from a cinema car park, a hospital car park, Metrocentre and several times from our own front door. This is one of the reasons DH would not upgrade to a keyless car, a,es you even more vulnerable.

I think the difference is before we didn't had access to so much data. I normally avoid most channels that are sensationalist because life is too short and we can't do anything about deranged humans.

These thieves are not 'sick' - they simply are scum..... Scum people are people who have never had any moral code except to their own family. Psychopaths aren't just 'mass murderers'. They come along at many, lesser levels , in far greater numbers, too. Thieving is the way they make their living. Simple. The two problems is that society has been conditioned to believe these people are 'ill' & so can be 'cured' . They can't be cured, only managed, and prison is simply an inconvenience that is only temporary.They are low-level psychos. Psychos can't care.

Shouldnt such an event have some kind of 'security' or at least parking attendants in hi-vis jackets or something, keeping an eye out as well.?

It's horrible, but there are far, far worse things.

I used to deal with car claims for a large insurance company and it was really awful the impact a stolen car had for the victims. One day going to work on the bus two men got on outside the prison on the bus route and they sat in front of me talking about what a buzz they got from stealing cars, how they ripped the rear view mirror off and drove the cars like maniacs when the police were chasing them and say how they would never drive their own cars that way, by the time the bus got near the bus station I couldn’t stop myself from telling them exactly what I thought of them and how they had no regard for the owners of the cars they stole. They got off the bus very sheepishly as the other passengers applauded my comments.

Years ago DD had a little old car when she was at university; she kept a lot of her stuff in the boot including musical instruments.
It was stolen when she was in lectures, found in a field, nothing left of it because they'd gone for a joyride (presumably stolen what was in the boot) then set fire to it.

It's horrible to think that a lovely event in a country village can be the target for thieves, Luckygirl3.

However, it won't be opportunist thieves like young joyriders, if you advertised this on FB or similar, then these gangs target these events, sadly.

Years ago all the cars in our road were targeted but they only managed to steal one, the others were damaged as they tried to get into them. The police said the gangs come from other areas, change the number plates and are gone.

Where I live, which is far from being a village i.e. inner city area, if you don't put your door number on your refuse wheelie bin it ''walks'' on bin emptying day.My number is in white paint, but I still have them disappearing.
That is just a minor annoyance compared to some of the others.
No hope of a Range Rover or similar vehicle, as only on street parking. Thieves here can break into and steal anything.

Many, many years ago I was quite stunned when I heard (on something like the Jeremy Kyle show) a man describe himself as a 'professional burglar'. He thought it was perfectly okay to break into people's houses, on the basis that insurance companies recompensed people for losses so he was only really stealing from the insurance companies. Apparently he had to do it to feed his family.

Well evidently some people seem to think they have a right to take anything. At the other end of the scale, I saw a notice in a private garden: “please stop stealing our plants”.

Old style LR Defenders are very easy to steal, the modern Range Rovers are not difficult for professionals, disable the tracking system, change the plates, straight onto the ferry, drive to a place where no questions are asked.

We are thinking of asking the community police person to hover about next year.

I am helping at a big organised dog show next Sunday. I will be extra vigilant.

Sadly , I think that one in a hundred people have psychopathic tendencies and therefore absolutely no feeling for other people nor animals .
Experiments done in the US after World War 2 confirmed it .
It was not understood how people could inflict such cruelty on others in concentration camps .
Car thieving at charitable events is one thing and putting monkeys in blenders beyond belief .
I was sickened when I read about it .

No wonder our neighbor has two steering locks on his Land Rover 😩& those two woman are sick in the head, & need locking up

Apparently car theft is on the increase, especially those with keyless entry, which probably applies to most cars these days.

There was a piece about it on the tv news one evening last week.

In the olden days - the VERY olden days - plays and entertainments were often performed in the streets and public squares. Pickpockets and cutpurses were attracted to such events because people were not paying attention to their possessions.

There’s been a bit of a disconnect between the OP and some following post which talked of two UK women involved in the torture and killing of monkeys. I read about this case several weeks ago and had to stop reading after the first paragraph. It was beyond belief frankly and I wish I hadn’t read it. These acts were filmed for people that paid to see such evil. I’ve read before of puppies and kittens suffering similar fates for the pleasure of depraved sadists over the internet.

This is why I commented as I did. Nothing to do with theft.

Regarding the car thefts I’m afraid nothing surprises me anymore. For 3 cars to be stolen at this event they had obviously planned it beforehand.

I blame the internet. The explosion in perversion and utterly depraved behaviour has increased drastically since the web became available to all. People make money from a lot of this stuff and some will do anything for money.
