What can I do now in terms of a career?

Just say you’ve spent a year developing additional competencies and skills to build on your degree, and are now looking for positions which will enable you to use the breadth of your experience, whilst continuing to develop professionally.

I would give your reasons as you've explained above. ie hat you did not want to complete the course that you chose. But don't say you found the exams challenging.

Odd thing to ask about on here. Not had a similar experience but you could always say you were looking for alternatives as the job didn't meet your expectations.

Tell them you were providing end of life care for a relative. You now wish to continue after your career pause and have been re-assessing your skillset.

I know someone who used that to cover a six month gap in her cv for personal reasons. The interviewer just said "Sorry for your loss, That must have been tough."

More or less a conversation stopper for any more akward questions on that line.

My daughter once was interviewing someone who was a “wildcard” when she asked him why his degree was a 2,2 he said he had had a wild 4 years at university and had done as little work as he could get away with and was currently regretting his behaviour, my daughter was much the same so she offered him the job, he was a good hire!

Tell them. Honesty is always the best policy and it shows a maturity that you were prepared to drop out when you realised you had made the wrong choice.
