Oh, unless onr thinks all executions are wrongful.
I meant an innocent person being put to death.
Family don't pitch in and help
Do people still stamp their feet in anger?
The Boomers Have Had It Too Good?
I saw earlier that 3 women had been found dead and police were looking for a named person in his mid twenties.
It now transpires that the women were a mother and her two adult daughters and they were the wife and daughters of racing commentator, John Hunt. Apparently they were shot with a crossbow.
I’m so shocked and can’t begin to imagine their terror and the shock and grief of Mr Hunt. Just appalling. I hope the person responsible is caught very quickly.

The death penalty did not prevent murders

I’m with Annie, Wyllow and Callistemon in opposing the death penalty. We have moved from state sponsored murder. I’m horrified by the way the death penalty is imposed in the USA and by the way spectators are in the room watching the perpetrator die, often prolonged agony. How that’s supposed to help anyone is beyond me.
America is a violent society
I think it would cheer me up no end to do to them what they have done to others, especially to a child.
But I know it's wrong and I'd probably feel terrible afterwards.
It prevents the perpetrator from committing more.
Some of them want a death sentence.
It prevents them from being given a new identity and joining another innocent family's inner circle of trusted friends, or partners, step parents,
Horrific mistakes are made in the USA: Since 1973, at least 200 people who had been wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in the U.S. have been exonerated. (not all states have the penalty, most do).
Again, I accept that from what people have said above they would want that if it had happened in their family, but for others it would add to the burden, could give the opposite to so called "closure".

I don't think anyone convicted of an evil crime should be released early or given a new identity.
It was rumoured that someone who aided and abetted a child murderer was living nearby, miles from where they originated and with a new identity and look, putting fear into parents at a local school.
Doesn’t prevent others from committing murder , you speak of revenge not justice
And yet almost everyone was in agreement about killing Putin.
I asked at that time, does ones belief vary?

A man called Shane Gilmer was killed with a crossbow in January 2018, after disputes with a neighbour.
His pregnant partner was also wounded, but she and the baby survived.
I think it went down as ‘unlawful killing’, not ‘murder’
🤷♀️
The killer must have intended killing him, surely.
This is unfortunately happening more and more. I don’t agree with it. I think if a person is murdered, then they are murdered. The family of Barnaby Webber are currently calling for a Public Inquiry on this very subject, with regard to their murdered son. The man who murdered him was charged with manslaughter.

Yes, I accept that.
I also do think that it protects others from ever having the misfortune of inadvertently admitting them into their inner circle, because whole life sentences are small, compared to the amount of people who murder.
Murder, that is, not kill.
Thrn support whole life sentences not murder
I support both.
I don’t, I knew Timothy Evans sister
Whethertomorrow
As I understand it he is now fighting for his life in hospital.
I feel sorry for the medical team who have to deal with him. I’d let him die asap.
He is taking medical care away from some decent person in need.
Medical staff try to save lives Whethertomorrow not up to them to decide if a patient is worth saving or not. Otherwise where would it stop.

I'd hold back on the painkillers though.
Often these awful attacks are suicide missions; I'm going and you are coming with me is in their minds.
The terrible thing about cross-bows is that you do not have to get close to your victim. You could get shot in your house through an open window. Those poor women didn't stand a chance.

When was this? Don't recall the context.
Boz, it seems this murderer tried to take his life. These men who murder their families often then take their own life.
I don't think the death penalty will return in this country and I would never petition for its return, but although it did not prevent all murders I think it acted as a deterrent. There seem to be so many murders perpetrated now for the most trivial of reasons, because 'he told me off, they looked at me in a funny way, he disrespected me, she dumped me' etc.etc. etc.
I can't remember exactly when, or even the context, (I wasn't well)
It might come up in the search feature.
Absolutely tragically heartbreaking, no words to describe this awful thing that has happened to this innocent family. I hope some how they find strength and a way to go on.
Grandma70s It is very strange that some people supposedly condemning violence want to answer it with more violence. Revenge is a very primitive reaction. At least the law has moved beyond that.
The death penalty has nothing to do with violence or revenge. It is punishment for a heinous crime which is beyond forgiveness. Some people are just too evil and too dangerous and there is no hope of healing them. Think of cannibals.
Anniebach I am against the death penalty, is hanging an innocent person acceptable which certainly happened when we did have the desth penalty
If the death penalty was brought back it should be for unspeakable murders where there is no doubt. After all we have DNA evidence and CCTV as well as witnesses for crimes in public places. Think of Lee Rigby. There should be different categories of murder and hanging is not the method which would be used today.

Opinions varied greatly.
Terrible. That poor family. What a terrible way to die
easybee yes this is what really scares me. There seems to be a lack of resilience, but is a very complex issue that will be deeply embedded in upbringing and home or family environment.
