I like to mark the time betwix the Solstice & Midsummer Day, reading passages from old favourites- Cassandra's Midsummer Rites on the Mound from I Capture the Castle of course, and delve into the stirring poetry of Edward Thomas and the Dymock Poets. Discovered The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane & Jackie Morris earlier this year too, perfect.
Home made cake, a visit to an ancient place in a beautiful landscape & tealights in jam jars twined with ivy!
More ideas anyone please?

Thank you for reporting me, it will now make me leave these forums as I only joined a few days ago and before I did I read many posts from different posters and your comments on many of them were short and curt. I do agree on saying what you mean but there are ways and means of saying them in a nice way.

Midsummer's day is indeed 24th June and Solstice is celebrated on 20th June. The latter term deriving from the Latin for the "sun stands still". Effectively we have reached the height of the season and each day forth leads to the all important harvest.

Well, thank you for the discussion about the date; my father was born on June 24th 1905, which we believed to be Midsummer's Day, but were not offended if some believed it to be June 21st. Now I understand.

My favourite time of year! I love the warm evenings and the light I find it special and magical.

It's a pity some people don't spread a little more solstice/midsummer love at this time of year like we do at Christmas.

To provoke someone into leaving this site seems especially mean spirited to me. I know I left a few years ago due to spiteful and ungenerous comments, but now I've toughened up a bit!

I hope no one thought I was provoking someone to leave by posting about the date again. I thought I was being light hearted, after all the comments the other day.
