What's the worst gift you've ever been given?

Aged 10 I was bitterly disappointed to receive from a family friend three pairs of beige school socks. She thought it would help my always hard up mother, which of course it did, but I never quite forgave her.

A bright gaudy turquoise (see through) baby doll outfit (remember them?) with bright pink strawberries on the front from a boyfriend. That was the end of that relationship.

When I was a child, my mother’s friend gave me a pair of shoes that were different sizes. My mother said it was the thought that counted!

Fartooold as I am sure you said, 'It is the thought that counts.'

My daughter who has Down Syndrome bought OH a Parker Pen and me a pair of wind up plastic clacking teeth for Christmas. Made me laugh, I still have them

I won 3 things in the raffle which are all going to a charity shop soon.
A jigsaw
A yankee candle (overpowering scent)
A little plastic toilet bag with some tubes of beauty products inside.

Someone will love these things

An ex partner, having bought his mother an all-singing all-dancing combination microwave oven for Christmas, gave me a matching oven glove and teacloth ... no guessing why he's an ex!

I got one windscreen washer . DH explained that it was only the one on the passenger's side that needed replacing .

I’ve just remembered a couple of others. In the same vein as HurdyGurdy, my daughter was very unamused by a “joke” present from a Secret Santa: The Book of F*rts. As would l have been. However, my grandmother was once presented with a brand new chip pan from my grandfather one Christmas because he was very partial to home made chips. She was not best pleased and restrained herself from doing serious damage to his head with said chip pan. The atmosphere was decidedly frosty and he never made the same mistake again. I believe he usually played safe with a smart handbag ever after.

We were doing up an old house, ran out of money, for my 21st birthday the people I worked with got me a load of DIY stuff, really appreciated.

My Mum bought me a salad shaker one Christmas, she said she found hers very useful!

My late mother-in-law was a huge fan of car boot sales.
One birthday she gave me a jumper that smelt of sweat under the arms.

From my 46 year old Step-daughter (who hated me with a passion) a broken, marked down many times, wine rack - final price £1.50 with all the stickers left in place!

I put it in the bin!

CBBL - That reminded me of a present I once received from my husband's ex (who was then dating his brother, who she'd been cheating with behind my husband's back, way before I was on the scene!!!). She gave me an aromatherapy set with book and oils..... but all the bottles were empty, the book well-fingered and there was even still a gift tag inside to her from the person who had originally given it to her. Just to emphasise her vindictiveness, she gave my husband three, not cheap, CDs he really wanted. What a complete b****!!! Not to mention the brother also!!!

For my 30th birthday my (abusive) ex gave me a cookbook from The Works with the price tag still on, it cost 99p. He then cleared off out with his mate leaving me on my own for the entire evening. It was his idea of punishment but my idea of bliss.

Bevisp I gave my pal for her 60th a walking stick. It was sort of meant as a joke and it did have a handle you could unscrew revealing a small hip flask which I had filled with brandy.

She had specified no presents but I couldn't resist.
We are still friends

A ‘friend’ gave me for my 60th birthday a gift of …wait for it… neck & face anti-wrinkle cream!! to this day I don’t know if she did it for a joke or not, but was quite offended, but didn’t say anything to her.
It’s her 60th in may and I really don’t know what to buy her… I couldn’t dare dream of buying her something similar..
