I have a special room…do you?

I have converted my smallest third bedroom into my craft room and I have lots of desk space and storage in there. It is a lovely room, very sunny when the weather is nice and has French doors out onto the patio and garden, with a view of my pond. I love it.

My special room is our kitchen, and it was designed to hold a large upright cat pen when I was breeding pedigree cats with a floor to ceiling climbing g frame for their amusement and to the allow them access to the basket on top of the freezer , .less cats and kittens now so there’s a table for my sewing machine and it’s the hub of our home

No special room needed as I am now on my own, and never really needed one before anyway. I just have comfy furniture in the sitting room to either read, knit or watch tv.

A difficult decision ahead for you Grammaretto. 💐

I am like Tink so now have the entire house and am seriously intending to downsize this year or next but I would lose my pottery studio which has been my escape and happy place for over 40 years.

It’s so comfy covered in Harris tweed. I love it. I can snuggle right into it.

When I was a kid I used to put my fingers behind my eardrums and press against them to cut out noise around me. As I got older I just learned to filter out any noise around me. I can read contentedly and peacefully even if the tv is on or someone in the room is on the phone. It doesn’t register or disturb me.

I have the small bedroom as a sewing/craft room and office combined. I have my sewing cabinet on one side, table and shelves on the other and a storage unit with drawers for craft materials on one end. In the middle is a comfortable office chair with fold-up arms that I just swivel round to face whatever task I want to do. Perfect!

I have my sewing room. It used to be a walk in wardrobe. No one else goes in there. It's a bit untidy...

I thought l would show you my special room. The first photo shows my teaching piano, the edge of my family heirloom piano and my cosy corner. The second photo the other end of the room with the corner of the digital piano and most of the library. The final photo shows the digital piano with the picture above, which l bought in a charity shop some years ago.

I have a sewing room. My special, relaxing space 🙂

I have my music room. It’s a converted double garage and has been built especially for the purpose as it is well soundproofed. It was constructed just before we moved in and leads off to a small utility room and storage space that were made from the remainder of the garage. The music room has space for my two upright pianos and digital piano - the latter was in the conservatory in our old house so that my children could practise while I was teaching. I also have a viola and two violins plus my husband’s guitar and several music stands. It also contains the vast majority of our books, so that is like a small library and l have a small table with a couple of comfortable chairs, which is my cosy corner for reading. I realise how fortunate I am.

As the children have left two bedrooms have had beds removed. One is small and north facing so good for my art work but also has lot of storage boxes with miscellaneous contents with clear plastic sides. The other is south facing and is laundry place with ironing boards and airers. It also functions as an office. Daughter uses it now one or two days as week. All can be dismantled (desk is a board on folding table) so at a push can be used for sleeping in with inflatable mattress.

I do. We’ve recently moved the 19 year old into the middle size bedroom as they needed more space and their bed was getting more rickety by the day.
So the smallest room is now mine. I’ve a chair, table and TV. Plenty of space for my sewing supplies and Lego.
I retreat in there on my days off while my husband is working at home in the living room.
Guests have to sleep in there on an airbed for now but the plan is to get a sofa/chair bed.

I have always had my own study, which doubles as a guest bedroom.

As an academic, I needed a place where I could read and write without having to hear the TV.

DH regarded the whole house as mine, except for his workshop and the kitchen which he used as much as I did, and now, three months after his death I still find it impossible to sit in the sitting-room in the evenings, or even have the light on in there. I just miss him too much, as it was "his" room. Oddly enough I can sit there in the mornings or afternoons without turning into "Patience on a monument, smiling at grief".

Sorry, Tink, all my sympathies. No one wants all the space you have because of your circumstances.

I share a study/dressing room/come bedsit with DH.
We do have what were byres in the back garden unfortunately they face the wrong way to catch the sun or one would make a substantial sunroom. They are granddad" sheds."

I often yearn for a room of my own. You are so fortunate 😊. I'd love a study with a desk and lots of bookshelves, as I have a lot of books. I would also like a corner of the room to do crafts and hobbies. I would choose the furniture and decor myself (hubby and I have to compromise usually). I did used to share an office in the loft with my husband but he's immaculately tidy and couldn't bear my books being on my desk, even if they were stacked neatly 🤣.

We haven’t downsized from our family home so we have a lot of rooms. We had 4 children and they had a room each and we also have a study and a family room, laundry plus a couple of others. We think about downsizing but can’t bear the hassle ! Best thing is we have 2 bathrooms and 3 loos. My husband has a study, I have a study and a sewing room. The exercise bike is outside on the top decking, don’t want to look at the horrible thing.

I have the conservatory as my craft (special to me) room. I can sit in there in the winter with the little heater on and watch the wildlife. Summer can get a bit hot but I love my own little space. It’s great for knitting, sewing, crocheting and watercolour painting. I can shut the door and the time and space is mine. Bliss!

Tink - sorry to hear that - the sad downside of having space. x

I'm lucky enough to have 'my' room, with a walk in wardrobe leading off, complete with beautiful views from both rooms. I know this is a real privilege, and I enjoy it so much. I iron and watch TV, listen to music, do clothing repairs,wrap gifts using the ironing board - - it's my small world, with my favourite books. Only the quiet and gentle cats share it with me . OH and dogs are banned - too noisy.

Same as oldnproud- we bought this house with our needs as a family with 2 growing children in mind, now we don’t have anywhere to put everyone if the whole family visits, including 3 DGC. I think DH wants to avoid moving, but my plan would be a house big enough to accommodate family and friends when visiting, with enough space for hobbies and work.

I do notionally have work space in the downstairs back room, but that’s where everything gets shoved if we’re clearing space for visitors, so it’s completely disorganised.

I have a large house to myself but two rooms are more important to me, the study where my computers are and the music room where the instruments are and it has a big TV and play station.
