Hot water bottles

I’ve got the long one and several other bottles. Always have bed socks on and shawl round my shoulders when sitting up reading.

Does anyone remember those cage like things with an electric bulb inside you put in the bed? We had one when we first got married, no central heating then, it was in the mid sixties. Oh the luxury now of bed socks and electric throws and blankets.

I love a hottie bottle, also this winter I’ve purchased an electrically heated cushion, I LOVE IT !

I need a hot water bottle these cold nights. I was up at 4 am the last two nights and refilled it then. I got back to sleep quickly because I was nice and warm. I don't like electric blankets.

Socks on and hot water bottle on very cold nights. This year, I’ve even been putting a hot water bottle in the cupboard under the kitchen sink, hoping it helps to avoid frozen pipes!

Electric blanket turned on here, half-an-hour before bedtime and turned off when I get into bed.

Woollen socks if my feet are cold, and during the snowy weather both cats on top of the bedclothes and as often as not, on top of me, too.

On very cold nights my Trubel puss asks politely if she may crawl in between the counterpane and my duvet, then settles down across my knees and we warm each other very nicely.

I love my hot water bottles. Remind me of my childhood when I had one the had the nursery rhyme hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle on it. Also recall staying with my lovely great Aunty Peg in Motherwell and being given a pottery pig to warm the bed. Also love my heated fleecy throw as my house is not warm.

The Daisy wheel on the hottie is to be found near the top of the hot water bottle and it gives the date it was made ( month and year ) . It is important as you shouldn’t risk using one that is more than about 3 years old as they can perish after that time . I have nursed several scalds on my Burns unit caused by perished hot water bottles . It’s amazing how you can easily buy an old hottie but the ones in Boots usually the year of purchase . I always look for that and won’t buy one with a date that isn’t near to the date of purchase and wouldn’t want to .

Electric overblankets are far superior in my opinion you don't need to put them on ahead of time and you can leave them on all night. Just find the right setting.

I have a hot water bottle with a fur cover which is really cosy. I still remember when I was a little girl and stayed sometimes at my great aunt's house, she would bring me up a hot water bottle and tuck me up in bed. I think that's why I chose to have one years later, as it brought back fond memories. I have only just converted to an electric blanket and love going to bed early so as I can snuggle down with a good book and my cat for company. My nan used to say that bed was 'the best place in the world' and after a long and busy day, I have to agree 🛌💤

I’m recovering from an operation and staying at my daughters house. I’m tucked up in bed, with a hot water bottle, watching catch up tv on my iPad! Bliss!

Having some health problems at the moment I have been using hotties to ease some back and tummy pains. Today my SIL sent me a heated blanket which was on my doorstep when I came home and it is now waiting to give me comfort when needed. I am waiting for appointments for various scans and feeling apprehensive about the immediate future. One day at a time!

On these cold nights 3 hot water bottles. Sleep upstairs, bathroom also there and book shelves, on one shelf l have a tray with electric kettle 1.7ltr which l fill with water from the bathroom opposite, plug in and boil, it will turn itself off if l don't do it before then fill my bottles. Also on the shelf is a mug, teaspoon and coffee sachet so if l don't want to go downstairs to the kitchen l can make myself a hot drink. Please beware throwing rubber hot water bottles anywhere especially when filled with hot water, l threw one on the bed it bent under at the neck and split both sides, result- hot water poured out, wet bed had to be changed.

I have an electric blanket, but do still love a HWB when feeling rough, but not enough to take to my bed. I well remember feeling terribly cold at the start of COVID* (before I realised what it was) and snuggling on the sofa with blanket and HWB.

*a very mild case, thank goodness. Cold and tired was about the size of it.

Definitely a hottie on the feet for me, not only at night but also when sitting at any time. I feel the cold. I grew up in a freezing house as many of us did, with ice on the inside of my bedroom window in the coldest winter weather, and no heating. A hottie and piles of blankets and eiderdown are childhood memories, and for this reason I love my weighted blanket too.

I have two hot water bottles which are used frequently, one of them is a long thin one which I put down the middle of the bed so that I don't roll into a cold patch.
I wear bedsocks every night, I could not go to sleep if my feet were cold.

A hot water bottle for me! I also brought one to work with me and it would sit on my lap while I worked, keeping mewarm in the coldest room in the building.

It works a treat in summer as a cold bottle to keep me cool in bed.

I have recently bought thermal leggings and long sleeved top to go underneath my fluffy extra large PJ s I also bought some slouchy socks .
I have an electric heated pad that automatically turns off . It's not very big but keeps my feet warm .

I'm in agreement with nipsmum, except I have one HWB with a fabric cover which lasts most of the night, and one without a cover for instant heat.

I love hot water bottles, and especially the two electrically heated ones I bought recently. They are so quick and convenient to heat up. I just keep their charger by the bed and plug them in. They heat up in 5–8 minutes. I can recommend them.

I can’t go to sleep in the winter if my feet are cold so a HWB is a must for me. I also have a rotor cuff problem so have a curved bottle I put round my shoulder to ease it.
But of advice. Don’t fill you hot water bottle when you need to wee. 🤣
