Does Anyone Remember Paper Cut Out Dolls?

I have a cardboard one in the attic with some paper clothes for it. I showed my dear gd when she was younger but she was not interested

I loved them too. You could buy books of the dolls with beautiful clothes and accessories. I think my 6 year old granddaughter would love them. She loves making up stories and dressing up. Thanks for the memories.

I loved them. Bunty used to have a page with a a cut out doll and clothes. Remember playing with a friend just trying on the different clothes on the paper dolls and making up stories of where the dolls were going. I doubt today's generation would be interested.

Yes, I loved them and used to make my own out of cereal boxes, paper and crayons. I'm glad you've reminded me of them. That'll be a good activity for my granddaughter at the weekend.

I had a relatives cast off comics . I loved getting a pile of them and deciding where she was going with her outfits. Lovely to have an outlet for my imagination.

Oh yes fairycakes, I loved them. We seemed to have these right through childhood. I saw a photo of them on FB I think, and was showing my granddaughter. I’m sure she felt sorry for me, but tried to be enthusiastic as I’d said how much my sister and I loved them. She was quite staggered I think. It was very funny.

I loved mine. I had several. Found them difficult to stand on those cardboard posts so usually had them flat.

The only magazine I got (in the 50s) was Girl, which I absolutely loved and desperately waited for Wednesdays when it came out. ‘Girl’ didn’t do cut-out dolls, but I did get them from Woman and Home which my mother bought occasionally, I’d forgotten they had the names Norah and Tilly, but it rings a bell. Loved playing with them.
My DGD enjoyed a doll dressing game on her I-pad for a while, where you could change clothes, styles and colours at a touch. Less clunky than our paper ones, but didn’t keep her absorbed for so long.

I got Buty every week with the cut out dolls and had a suitcase full, my favourite toy, I asked for them every birthday, Xmas and treat offered from 5p ones in the market to extravagant ones that opened up like a dance studio with ballerinas and a mix of costumes,tab ones, magnet ones , I loved them all but told my mum to chuck them when I left home, how sad. Now I have collected a few more, 1950s couple, land girls and the like, and a few vintage ones. They're still available if we look hard enough!

I remember some large toddler type dolls that had magnets on the clothes so no need for the tabs.

I remember them and also remember I lived them. Folding those clothes on those little tabs over the shoulders. Oh how easily pleased we were back in the day.

I remember these and having hours of fun dressing up the doll and my Mum could afford to buy them as they weren't expensive. It let me use my imagination unlike so many toys these days which just need a button pressing to make a noise and are very expensive.

I loved them. Spent hours and hours cutting them out and playing. I cut in such a way that the tabs were longer.

Yes, I absolutely loved them. Sometimes, comic magazines such as Bunty had free cutouts inside. I used to make my own as well. As I was into ballet dancing I’d spend many happy hours making card ballerina dolls and their paper dresses which I would then colour with paints or crayons. I made some last year for a friend’s granddaughter and she loved them. She is now creating her own dolls and clothes in the style of Barbie

My sister and I loved playing ‘dolls and dresses’ as we called them! Would keep us entertained for hours! I think today’s children are, sadly, far too sophisticated (and spoiled) to find such simple things pleasurable. When I explained about this to my GD, she was completely underwhelmed with the idea! Also, does anyone remember the cut out dolls on the back of the ‘Bunty’ comic? I loved to read that as often as my mum could afford to buy it! The cut out doll on the back was a lovely bonus; my sister and I used to cut them out, stick them on to cardboard and hoard them! Happy days!

Oh yes, how I loved to play with my cut out dolls and dress them up. I bought one for my DGD for Christmas this year. But I can't remember in which shop I found it. She loves it

I remember them well played with them a lot when i was a child and i introduced them to my eldest daughters when they were little they loved them too x

My friend and I kept ours in the old style flat chocolate boxes. We spent hours creating stories about the dolls. I was once given a glossy book of cut outs with little magnets to attach the clothing to the doll. We thought this was the height of sophistication.

Ah yes I remember these too. Allowed our imagination to be free ! Great times growing up in the 60's

I loved them! I was a child in the 60s and was a little tomboy, always playing outdoors, climbing trees and using garden booms as pretend horses but paper dolls were my rainy day occupation. Weirdly I never had Sindy dolls but I would spend hours carefully cutting out the clothes and dressing my cardboard doll.
I remember a comic which covered Sooty and Sweep quite a lot and one time they gave away a free dress up Sooty puppet. It was glossy thick card and well made for a freebie. The cut out clothes were inside. I treasured it so much.
My daughter was born in the mid 80s, not a dolly child at all and I don’t remember those dress up dolls being around by then although I did look for them.

Ooh yes, there were books based on American tv programmes ‘Petticoat Junction’ was one. They were very realistic and glamorous. I was heartbroken when I reached 13 and Mum said I was too old for them 💔
