Luckygirl3 With you on this. As we are consrantky bombarded by Mums telling us how stressed they are caring for a baby/toddler, never enough time yet they can manage to put those ridiculous bows and bands on babies.

Bows in tiny baby girls' heads .....
(143 Posts)Am I just becoming a crabby old git or are these bows ridiculous?
Some of them are huge.
Why should a tiny baby have to tolerate a band round their heads? It needs to be quite tight to keep it on and that cannot be comfortable. And you see pics of babies lying in their cribs with them on - it only needs the baby to wriggle around and the band slip round their neck for a danger to be created.
Is it just me ........ ?
Agree totally, but i can also have a rant at mums who dont put gloves on their babies’ little hands while wearing gloves themselves. Reynauds calling at later date?
No, it's not just you, I can't bear them. I'm just not a frilly/bowey person and my own girls never wore them. My daughter does all sorts of things with her daughter's hair and I hate it - though she isn't a baby.
I love the baby headbands. I think they're cute.
I wouldn't put one on a tiny baby only when they can sit up and obviously take it off for sleeping or unsupervised.
I quite agree, it must be so uncomfortable for the baby and looks ridiculous imo. Equally I can't bear to see dogs dressed in Christmas jumpers etc.
I agree that they could be dangerous. When my daughter was young I waited till she had long hair before using bows.
I’m a doula and antenatal teacher and I see a lot of these headband things. They don’t exert much pressure but they do annoy the baby! I think it comes from a desire to mark girls as “girly” from a very young age.
I’m with the OP but have to pick my battles!
I can't stand those head bands (with or without bows) and agree with the other negative comments about them.
My other pet hate (as mentioned above) is babies wearing designer shoes when they can't even walk! These shoes are quite expensive and I am always worried mothers will want their money's worth. I worry they will push their babies feet in them when the shoes are too small. Babies bones are soft and too small shoes won't hurt but will cause deformities! There is absolutely no need for a baby to wear shoes until they are walking. The same goes for too tight baby grows and socks where their little toes are all scrunched up. I just want to get a pair if scissors and cut the toes off the baby grows when I see that !
Each to their own. Tbh it’s not something I’ve noticed where I live. And I don’t really notice what babies are wearing anyway. In fact when out and and about I don’t really notice what any anyone is wearing . I’d make a rubbish witness 🤔
Oh I so totally agree, who on earth would want to restrict the growth and comfort of a babies head. It appalls me to think that any reasonable intelligent person would see this as a reasonable thing to do. Does ‘fashion’ have to dictate every aspect of or lives. If some of these stupid mothers have a need to be slaves to fashion for goodness sake confine it to yourselves and leave your children out of it.

In this day and age of steering children away from gender defining apparel and toys, placing an utterly superfluous bow on a baby girl's head is somewhat strangely old school and retrograde. Just seems to buy into the quaint notion that little girls should resemble some daft frilly, frou, frou from a bygone age. Here's hoping those babies turn into spirited girls, demand Doc Martens before they hit nursery, so they can grind the trashy hair bows underfoot. Go girl! tell ya ma "bin the ribbons bring me my Valkyrie Helmet it's a jungle out there"
Standing ovation! I so hate gender-defined clothing and always have. It's the first stage of conditioning children into gender stereotyping. When my girls were born I wasn't having any of that frills and flounces nonsense.
My DD did wear pretty cotton dresses but also had practical dungarees. Babies can't crawl in dresses!
In their 40s they still like to wear a dress for special occasions but one is most likely to be seen in jeans and sturdy walking boots or Doc Martens, the other in jeans, boots or trainers.
My sentiments as well. I have read about incidents about babies suffocating when the bow has accidentally slipped down the babies head. Apart from looking ridiculous far more importantly the danger they impose
I had two baby girls in the 70s and dressed them in frills and bonnets, but I don’t like the headbands they put on babies now as op said they must be uncomfortable and tight around their head and when they are to big I think they look a bit chavy
Only my opinion

I’ve never liked them. They’ve been around quite a while - I remember seeing them on babies when my daughter was a baby and I vowed never to let her wear one. She’s nearly 37.
Each to their own, and trends definitely change over the years. But I see a bald baby with a ribbon round it's head, and I think "Easter Egg".
I’m crabby too and I think they’re utterly ridiculous
To be honest I think they look ridiculous, but I also think that about the spider eyelashes and slug eyebrows that a lot of women insist on wearing these days. Some people are just slaves to fashion ….

I also think they look daft- a pointless decoration- so I must also be a grumpy old git - however none of my 4 granddaughters ever had one stuck round their heads - however it won’t be long before a little arm and hand will reach up and tug it off. 😂😂
Ok for a photo but that’s about it
Bands with bows often go with ear piercings- yes even tiny babies! The parents just want the ‘look’ and have no care for the baby’s comfort or safety.
I hate them ! Luckily my daughter didn’t go down that road with her daughter ….thankfully.
No, it's not just you. I hate headbands, bows, clips, in fact, anything 'adorning' a baby's
head, and don't get me started on pierced ears - it looks common. There I've said it!
I'm with you all the way - there's even a company making 'girlie glue' to use...!
