Panic phonecall from DiL this afternoon as her dog had gone into labour! I took GGS to fetch GS from college while DH collected GC from school. We can’t get everyone in one car because modern car seats are so big. Every time we think about going down to one car, something like this happens!
So far there are 4 miniature dachshund pups … but due to an accident with their boy dachshund, the other girl is due this weekend too!
Hi Ann - what a journey! We have just decided to book a holiday in Madeira in March. It feels like it’s time but there will not be a lot of walking, unless the NHS come through with a new knee! Unlikely before March!

Some good news to share,My DGS2 has been chosen to play football for a local semi professional football team he’s a very happy boy.He will have a very busy year with GCSE exams in May,but we are very pleased for him.
Hope we don’t get snow next week as DG2 and GF are coming for belated Christmas so looking forward to seeing them.

I’ve had a quieter day than yesterday. Some laundry and baking. I had a batch of egg whites in the freezer so made a dozen lemon and raspberry friands. I also make a spiced chocolate cake. Fish and chips tonight.

So glad to hear from you, Ann, and am full of admiration for your courage in doing such a long and complicated journey. The spirit may be willing but the ageing flesh is definitely not up to it!

Good morning everyone.
I an still here and very touched that people are thinking of me.
I do keep up with you all and know of your doings and your sadnesses.
I may have mentioned that I was going to visit my D and GC in the New Year, well that wasn’t the brightest idea I have ever had.
I should start by saying I did enjoy it when I got there and can’t praise assistance on train travel enough, it was fantastic.

I planned to do Stockport to Southampton and then Southampton to Horsham with just 30 mins between trains.
However I thought sitting for four and a half on one train and then one and a half hours on the next would be restful I have no idea, it was awful and that doesn’t include the disruption of the floods and a point’s failure to factor in.
However as I said the assistance, although unplanned for the second part of the journey, with a change of trains on the next train was superb.

I can safely say I shall not be doing it again, I have very exaggerated ideas about my 86 year old abilities.

I got home on Saturday about 6:45 and slept for most of the weekend!

I am so sad that life is challenging for some either as ill or carers or worrying about loved ones.
I send my sympathy and love.
I shall continue to pop in to this lovely warm and safe place now and then.

Good morning everyone! I apologise for not calling in but it’s been a bit hectic. We had a last minute sleepover on Tuesday night and then made up for that early start by oversleeping yesterday.
I hope your sister had good news yesterday soop.
We have had some advice from a PCSO about the church and I am still waiting for a visit from a rural crime officer.
I think we may treat ourselves to a trip to Tesco today! We have finally finished the Christmas cake ( it was a good one!) but still have a stollen and two panettone to go. So much for a carb free January.

Hello kitchen people,
I’ve had an interesting day. We went to the annual post-Christmas U3A lunch. All very delicious and we shared a table with a bunch of nice people. OH look d at the programme and saw the entertainer had the same name as someone we shared a house with until 1976. It was him! I’m afraid I didn’t recognise him at all - we were in our early 20s when we last met and we’re now in our early 70s - but he and OH recognised one another.
Later I had an excellent hair cut.
Dinner was a bowl of cereal and a banana. We had a big lunch.

Good evening Kitcheners. Grannmarie my doors are fixed, thank you very much. It didn't take long either. Grannygravy it's been a cold day here too. I've felt it badly. Good news about your eyes. Brook dgs1 got a Nintendo switch for Christmas and is very adept already. Mum and dad limit his time on it. It sounds like you are reorganising. Annsixty you are missed. 💐. Urms any leftovers for a wee one? I love corned beef hash.
Doors fixed and house tidied today. I started a cross stitch too so I feel quite virtuous. I've gone to bed because I'm up sharp for a chiropodist appointment in the morning. Then I'm off to Edinburgh to see Scottish Ballet's performance of Cinders. I'm looking forward to it immensely. Night all

Well, I've perked up a wee bit, I spent an hour in the garden this afternoon, felt better for it. I was sweeping up leaves and tidying tubs, lots of shoots of daffs are beginning to make an appearance. I hope the frost doesn't kill them, the cyclamen have bit the dust...

Snap, brook, salmon pasta here tonight. I've returned to my Slimming class, so back to healthier eating now the festive season is over, it was death by cheeseboard!

Grannygravy, your holiday in the sun will have done you a power of good, perfect antidote to our dark, cold weather. Not long now, brook!

We dropped DGD off at school and then I went along to the volunteering training session this morning which was good. More scenarios to remember though but all good. I’ve got a real session tomorrow's morning too.
This afternoon we’ve been re jigging a couple of the bedrooms and moving some bits of furniture around. I’m trying to update DGSs bedroom now that he’s 10, he’s far too old for some of the toys and picture books in his room so they’ll have to go. His ‘toys’ are getting so much smaller now, no big garages, train sets and chunky Lego but he still enjoys his proper reading books and his board games - and his Nintendo switch when he’s allowed
Hoping everyone has a lovely evening, we’re having salmon later but not sure what’s going with it yet …🤷‍♀️

Urms the only places I’ve been to in Scotland that have tartan carpet are hotels and B&B’s. 😂 One local carpet shop sells it, alongside leopard print carpet in a range of colours. Imagine pink leopard pink on a floor!

It’s v chilly here, too, Brook but at least today is sunny.

The loss adjuster came and had a look at everything on Tuesday. She really just measured room sizes and took photos. Next step, she writes a report and someone is appointed to oversee the reparations. I’m not sure how the next bit works, to be honest! There’s quite a lot that needs replacing/repairing but we’ll just have to go with the flow.

Our normal weekly routine with the GC has begun again. It was good to note that it wasn’t totally dark when GD went to her ballet class yesterday! Tomorrow we’re looking after GS then his family are coming for their tea with us. Neither of them seem too bothered that mummy isn’t here, 2yo GS thinks she’s been at work since last Sunday, bless him!

Tidying up and decluttering needs to be done here so I must crack on with that. TOYA. Xxx

Dear you lovely lot. My very young sister (60) has an important scan today. It will reveal whether or not her cancer surgery and subsequent treatment is on the right track. We had a long telephone chat during which she remains positive (with a naughty sense of humour).

A glorious day. Not a whisper of a breeze. Cloudless sky. The sea looks like glass.

Sweetie Pie, the feral cat who went on a three month walkabout, returned for one night and one day to feast of high quality feline cuisine, has not returned for two days. I ask you...is he perhaps taking advantage of our good will, not to mention love.

My very best wishes to you all. I shall, in time, get back on track and spend more time in our Kitchen.

Hi Kitcheners, we are back home from Espana, we were fortunate to have sunny warm days which enabled us to have long walks along the Paseo.

Hi to all kitchen pals, DGD has gone through to bed so DH has put the kettle on and we’re going to have a rest. The sleepovers certainly are good fun corner I love having them to stay over and I’m pleased you’ve got your happy memories too. I know grandmabatty enjoys her wee DGS to stay over as well!
I do like the snow too Jax but it’s the long dark evenings that get to me. So a winter break somewhere warmer really helps get me back on track. I think you already do a lot but I hope you enjoy your U3A group next week and your TaiChi if you can get signed up ok
