Old Amersham short break

Thanks. Both nice, Bath too, but Canterbury is not far from us. Salisbury is definitely worth a look but might be a bit too far for our friends.
We are considering Cambridge. Hoping to find somewhere nice, but not too expensive.

Maybe Salisbury or Canterbury?

silverlining I think my personal choice would be Bath and you would be occupied for 3 days. Admittedly it is many years since I last visited but it is a beautiful city.

Quite a lot of larger NT properties are dressed for Xmas inside - worth checking opening times on their websites. Lovely places to visit in December

Most NT properties will be closed in the winter. Amersham is not a place to go and stay, more a place to stop at for tea. Malvern is nice and close to Worcester. I’m afraid you need to think in terms of a city break at that time of year. We have stayed outside Cambridge and used park n ride to go into town, We did the same to visit Bath - staying in a country pub and driving to the park n ride.

Marlow would be better for a break. Lots of shops & restaurants in the High street- book ahead for most. Several National trust properties near by- Google. River side walks- all very nice. Henley also good for a wander. Google hotels / look on trip advisor/ couple if very good B & Bs too. Look on trip advisor. Danesfield house hotel between Marlow & Henley is high end hotel with spa & lovely pool if you like posh!

If you are a National Trust member there are a lots of places to visit, West Wycombe, Waddesdon Manor, Ascott House and others. If you like walking the Wendover Woods as part of the Chilterns are nice or you can view the destruction caused by the building of HS2 that is desecrating Buckinghamshire!

I live a few miles down the road from Amersham and I would not stay there one night never mind for 3. I cannot think of anywhere around here where you would not be hopping in the car after a couple of hours, sorry.

Thanks for your replies, there isn’t a reason to go there, we were thinking of 3 nights so hoped for more to occupy us without driving to other places.
I think we’ll have to think it out again 🤔

To be honest, Old Amersham is not somewhere I’d pick for a short break. It’s pleasant enough for an hour or so but perhaps you have a specific reason for going there.

If you’ve got a car you could always drive to nearby Marlow, Windsor and Old Beconsfield while you’re there I suppose.
Hope you enjoy it. Can’t suggest anywhere to eat I’m afraid (but I’m sure there will be plenty of places) Just see what you fancy while you’re walking around.

Not a lot in Amersham but you would be in striking distance of Berkhamsted and St Albans. My DH worked in Amersham for years
