Who else is really clumsy?

I can't seem to walk straight either, this maybe due to my arthritic knees. Also I drop a lot of things because of arthritic thumbs. So my DH has got used to me walking into him and the crash of large or heavy items hitting the floor

I am clumsy too HelenLake always breaking things. They just fall apart in my hands. My husband considers it his life's work to go behind me repairing everything

Dyspraxia immediately sprang to my mind. I have dyspraxia, diagnosed several decades ago, but it is only with the current interest and research into neuro diversity I am discovering how many of the other minor problems I have are part of the syndrome. It coves the problems I have using a smart phone, remembering sequences, doing more than one thing at a time.

I love to see others gesticulating.

Yes, HelenLake - when in Italy once someone said my forefathers were obviously Italian!
I have yet to see Italian diners waft glasses off the table though...

My husband says that's why a lot of restaurants in Italy serve wine in tumblers. They do, of course - unless it's a very upmarket place. So now we have invested in some rather smart stemless wine glasses which cause me no problems.

... however I must remember not to switch the light on with the hand holding the open bottle of wine!

Me too but I'm rather good at charades!

silverlining48 - yes, this is exactly what I used to do. Now I stop walking, look at whatever it is and then start walking again.

My bad fall was due to me tripping on a pothole.

Yes concentration is probably the key. Had a fall on holiday recently. I didn’t notice the pothole in the pavement because I was too busy nosing/looking at the gardens of a nice hotel we were walking past.

I used to gesticulate a lot when I was talking. Still do. On one occasion a man I scarcely knew siezed hold of both my hands and told me "Dont talk with your hands."

I pulled them free and snapped at him "Dont touch what you cant afford. You couldnt keep me in hairpins". I said it loud enough for everyone else in the room to hear.

I used to be more clumsy than I am now. I was always tripping over, breaking glasses etc.

I came to realise that it was mainly because I was not concentrating on what I was doing, or I was multitasking

Following a bad fall a few years ago I no longer do anything other than walk when I am walking IYSWIM. I don't rummage in my bag, look at my phone, look in another direction etc. Don't get me wrong, I don't walk like a robot but I am so much more aware that I need to do one thing at a time.

I'm like you Silver lining. Why do we lose the ability to walk in a straight line? I notice I take smaller steps now, is that it?

My dh always walks too close to me and I need space because I don’t seem to walk straight anymore. Tripping and sometimes falling is a regular occurrence these days. Luckily I mostly bounce.

Do you mean flap your hands about when you're talking 🤣 because I do that. Over the years a few drinks have ended up in my lap lol

As a child I was often told that I was clumsy and gawky. I think it was just adapting to a right handed world as a lefty though.

Oh, I've always been hopelessly clumsy. When I was a child, my mother referred to me as Clumsy-Clot and Baby Elephant and it was entirely justified!
Partly, it's probably because I'm left handed which inevitably leads to a certain amount of awkwardness in a right handed world but that's certainly not the entire reason. If something can be dropped, broken or tripped over then I will drop it, break it or trip over it.
I used to worry about it until I realised this only made matters worse. Now, I just shrug, laugh and try not to get close to anything fragile when browsing in shops or visiting friends with precious china on display.

Have you ever considered you might have dyspraxia?
