The Big Lunch, what are you doing?

This had passed me by, really. I vaguely knew of it but thought it was the same day as the coronation and had been bemused as to how people were supposed to watch the coronation and prepare a big lunch at the same time.

We had family over yesterday and I’m tired today so all I’ve planned is to go to B&Q then plant some roses. After yesterday’s party food I want plain stuff with plenty of veg to eat today.

Dogmother. Ditto! S &A quiche, plus strawberry sponge flans as part of our neighbourhood garden party this afternoon.

We had our big lunch yesterday, with the family, which went on from 10am till 7pm. Suffice to say I had rather a lot of cake, Pimms and fizz and will be mainly eating up leftovers today. I’ll be watching a few highlights of the coronation while DH is at the rugby - there was so much going on yesterday I didn’t actually see that much of the coverage!

Nothing special today. Thoroughly enjoyed the Coronation celebrations yesterday, and having planned just to watch the highlights, ended up glued to the telly for most of the day. Such a spectacle, and no-one does it like we do. Feeling some sympathy for Charles and Camilla though. They must be exhausted, and there's still more to come with the concert this evening. Bet they wish they could just put their feet up.

We are going to a friends house for a BBQ. Looking forward to it

We are going to a rugby club special lunch then watching the match.

On my own today. My daughters are abroad. I’m meeting my sister for breakfast. Then dogs to walk and a garden to tidy, providing the rain holds off. I’ll cook something good for this evening

BBQ for family here, ten of us, pleased it’s forecast dry after yesterday’s wash out. Lots of local events happening too with a number of road closures for street parties.

We're three miles from the Berkshire border Notagran. My Oxfordshire town had a programme of events for Coronation Day.
Fliers printed with the programme of events were sent to all residents and were available in the shops etc.
I spent the day in Oxford with my family, so I missed out on the town celebrations. Plenty of bunting about in my little town in the days preceding 6th May.

Due to a complete lack of interest (from family and neighbours alike) we won't be doing anything. We're aware of the Coronation, of course, didn't watch it though - as it seems totally irrelevant to us.

Yes, it was very different for the Jubilee, street parties everywhere. Even those who usually ignore royalty made the effort to have a celebration.

Our village here in the Royal County Of Berkshire has no Big Lunch event planned. Seems there is a lot of disinterest in our new King and his partner. Literally no bunting, flags etc to be seen ….It was very different for the Jubilee.

My neighbours hosted ours and everyone took a contribution. We ended up with quiche, a large poached salmon, coronation chicken, prawn vol au vents, various salads and nibbles and several sponge cakes. It was such a lovely day, despite the poor weather.

Never heard of the big lunch on Sunday. I'm in Scotland.

My son sent a photo of the Union Jack trifle he’s made ready for tomorrow. I’ll let you all know how it tastes.

Ah right BlueBelle, I just assumed everyone knew. Well they do say never assume anything so I shouldn’t have. Anyway I think some of the royals are going to be out and about tomorrow joining some people at the big lunches. I suspect they will be at street parties and so on. I’m not expecting them to drop in on us at our house. Then the concert is scheduled for tomorrow evening and I expect that will be televised.

No street parties around here (very diverse) and a dry day is forecast for tomorow so I am hoping to do a photo shoot for my business.

we re not all into it I did here about volunteering Monday but I volunteer Tuesday Wednesday and Thursdays so got that wrong too 😂

Celebrate tomorrow?Why? Charles became King on September 8th.

Are you in the UK Notagran55? I’m wondering because I think if you were, you would know about The Big Lunch. People were expected to be watching the ceremony today, if of course they wanted to, and so it was suggested by the Palace that street parties, picnics, celebratory lunches and get togethers would take place tomorrow, along with the concert which is scheduled for tomorrow too. All of it is entirely voluntary and absolutely no one has to join in if they don’t want to. As our family often share Sunday lunches and get togethers, we decided to do a bit more this weekend and participate in the big lunch.

Elizabeth the second succeeded to the throne on February 6th, 1952.
We celebrated her Coronation on 2nd June 1953. Same reason this time.

We are going to a neighbours with a few others- I am taking Delian chocolate roulade.

I made a salmon and asparagus quiche does that count?
