The person you dreamed of marrying

I never even thought about getting married when I was young.

I did have a crush on Davy Jones of the Monkees when I was about seven.

I fell in love with Dirk Bogarde in my early teens. The passion lasted for some time.

My dentist, who lived next door -but-one and always waved when he walked past.
He was 25 and I was 5.

At the risk of being a bore as I have told this story before, when I was about 15 ish I had a boyfriend who I was mad about. It was in my Catholic days and I used to pray every night 'Please God let me marry ...... ' and say his name. It wasn't a particularly common name. I didn't marry him but my now husband of 54 years has exactly the same name.

No thoughts of marriage but I had a crush on Fred MacMurray as he seemed so kind, unlike living with my DF which was like living with Vesuvio, always on the edge of erupting.

Paul McCartney, when I was about 13.

Well, I claimed him first, then along came Jane Asher.

Looking at him now, he hasn't aged that well.

Well, we're all different. I see a quite fit slim man, full head of hair who can still rock it in concerts - he's great fun to view on stage.

I think Paul has aged wonderfully well. I don't know many 80 year olds who look that good.

Only because Dad asked whom I would marry. Probably until then I had not thought about it. I have said it did not last long.

I was besotted with Clint Eastwood in my early teens. I would have married him.

I was too - at 12 or so I fell in love with Rowdy Yates (Rawhide).

However I went right off him a few decades ago, after some terrorist incident (possibly 9/11) when he cried off some engagement in London - IIRC a premiere - the tough guy of so many films, too chicken to get on a plane!

It struck me particularly at the time because an American BiL had not long died and dh and I didn’t think twice about joining my sister near Boston, for an event to celebrate his work in making documentary films.

From a real life POV there was never anyone but dh who I wanted to marry - he turned out to be a good choice!

Another Paul McCartney here, absolutely besotted with him.
My husband still teases me about him, and I tell him he’s very much second choice, my grandchildren think I’m nuts.

I wanted to marry David Cassidy or Donny Osmond! Hey ho that didn’t happen.

Quite rightly. Although I did get married and have a baby, I didn't find domesticity satisfying at all. Professional life however, much more fulfilling.
