I'm in favour of free speech for all whatever their views. Rather than limit free speech I'd prefer schools to educate people to be more discerning in their analysis of what is said and to be alert to trigger words designed to whip up feeling. I have no time for people who want to be perpetually outraged.

There is nothing ‘trivial’ about the removal of women’s sex based rights and protections. Women’s refuges should not be forced to accept men, women who have suffered violence at the hands of men should not have to share their safe spaces with men, vulnerable women should be able to have female medical practitioners. There is much more besides but I won’t list it all here. This is about much more than sharing changing rooms, now that really is trivialising the issues.

Thanks Jumblygran for confirming I wasn't missing the reporting of the arrest. The scenes of them trying to get KJK to safety through that violent mob were absolutely terrifying just to watch, let alone be a part of. You don't have to agree with KJK to condemn that mob, any decent person would.

The 'Let women speak' sessions are to allow women to tell their stories....why is that so very scary to the TRAs? And for Volver's information the women that are stopped from speaking are usually those that storm the area and grab the microphone to rant 'Trans women are women, trans rights are human rights' and don't want to say anything beyond that.

The juice thrower has not been arrested but it seems from reports that she said is expecting to be and, this is my opinion only, she is hoping this will happen to raise her public profile to enable her to gain martyr status.

I am in New Zealand.
The person who threw the soup has not been arrested, the person who gave the 70 year old woman has not been arrested either. Incidentally the 70 year old woman also has a fractured skull. The police were totally at fault in this situation and were watching from a distance under a tree despite seeing what was happening and being phoned many times. There were 80 to 100 people there to attend the Let Woman Speak rally and I believe about 2000 trans rights activists. I think after the week we had in NZ before Posy arrived many would have been put off attending the Let Woman Speak rally.
The media and some MP's especially from the Labour and Green Party whipped up a storm of hatred following the unrest in Australia.
For the record at the Melbourne meeting where the far right turned up with their Nazi salutes firstly for some reason the Police let them through the cordon and secondly the Jewish council has said they do not believe Posy has any connection with the Neo Nazis. Seriously why would she, the Neo Nazi's hate feminists.
Our biased media are by any standards abysmal and I wouldn't rely on our main media for truth in this situation. They receive money from the Government with strings attached.
It was distressing to see something like this playing out in my own country unfortunately free speech in this country has been eroding for a while.
For democracy to work we need to have free speech.
And an unbiased media.
Both of which seem to be in short supply here.

I dont think they are the baddies. I think transwomen are men. I dont think men are baddies. I quite like them. But they have no place in womens spaces.
I think the fixing is happening because of the work women have done. So I think prisons are on the way to being sex segregated again, I think there has been some movement in sport, refuges might change depending on the result of some upcoming court action, although that's been upcoming for a long time so who knows.
I think there are many ways to protest this, but I think some of the reaction you are seeing is the dislike of being lied to. We know Isla Bryson is a man, people arent going to lie to be 'kind'.

The trivial bit is that people say transpeople are the baddies. They do, although you will deny that, I suppose.

I don't give a toss if a transperson is in the same changing room as me, any more than I would care if a gay person was. I get that some do care, but this rabble rousing isn't the way to fix it. It starts with a sensible worry (e.g. transpeople in sport) and ends up with the demonisation of drag queens.

Yes lots of people think womens safety and dignity in prisons for example is a trivial matter, no one generally gives a toss about those women. The women in sport who have had to go through years of fighting this nonsense, and still are at the amateur level. And of course what's coming out in pretty much every country on the impact on children.

I am afraid I dont think you do know a lot about this issue Volver. Which is er fine, in the same way I dont know a great deal about all sorts of things. I gave you lots of concrete example, all recorded or a matter of record about what has happened to GC women when they have tried to speak to counter your 'wittering about free speech'.
Kelly J is not a feminist and has never said she is one. Lots of people who have concerns arent feminists, there are many different factors to the debate, womens rights absolutely, but also free speech, rights of children etc. People come at it from different perspectives.

I used to think I didn't know much about this. I used to wonder why people were so upset about it, so I tried to understand why they got so activated about such apparently trivial things when there are so many more things in the world to worry about.

Now I understand that they were just getting activated about trivial things.
